One of the first starting concepts leading up to my Mirror Souls AU!
Originally, I saw the human with the sword and the human with the spear as two separate people. Thus, I created fan art of them and made characters and stories out of them.
Read below for more info and facts!
I originally had the name of the human on the left have the same name as Chara (like a namesake) and the human on the right, Lampos.
Why Lampos? I came across it while looking up names that contain the word 'Chara' and came across it.
The two words together, Charalampos means to radiate from happiness, and I thought it would make sense to split that word up and give the twins half of the name to share. Symbolism and all that
They were also twin siblings from the human royalty, their mother, Queen of all human lands, was secretly a mage in disguise and is a distant relative of the Dreemurr family.
Ancient Chara eventually became Tosora and Lampos became Kloth.
... They rise through the ranks and overtime they are gifted the most prestige of honors.
Tosora, a human, is made the new leader this unit.
This special unit consists of the six Royal Mages as titled by the human capital.

I finished up a mock-up of what an older Tosora would look like! With some other versions too :3
I tried to go for a more grainy/old feeling for this new style I am trying out. Sketchy-like final drawings are ones I have more fun with, and I am happy with how it turned out!
I am planning to have a similar drawing to showcase my other two main characters of my AU Mirror Souls, Cissal and Kloth.
And check out my tag #mirrorsoulsau for more details about the characters / lore in my AU! :)
This AU is still a big work in progress, and changes might happen to what I already have going on. But I hope to get a working timeline soon of it. :3
For as long as they can remember, it's been repeated to Tosora, that monsters are dangerous and terrifying creatures.
While Tosora is fishing in the outskirts of their town. They hear children playing nearby, excited, they run towards the kids to ask them to play.

Here is a quick drawing of my main characters in this AU. From left to right they are:
Kloth, Cissal, and Tosora.

oh my goooodness, I haven't drawn nor talked much about my AU Mirror souls in almost a year, my apologies for those who followed me for it! I wish I can work on multiple things at once ;-;
Here is a snippet from my timeline of my prequel AU, when the three friends meet for the first time.
Tosora is a human who befriends two monsters, Kloth and their big sister Cissal or Cici or short!
I am really pushing myself to try to draw every day on my tablet! I've only drawn traditionally for the longest time, so hopefully with all of my practice I can draw more stuff for this AU. It is very dear for to me :3

Here is another snippet from my AU, specifically about the prophecy in this AU, this takes great/huge inspiration from Deltarune's prophecy and works off of it, but with some changes! :3
The third hero. The hex, fellow with facsimile pneuma.
The first hero. The herald, the like of the mind and a soul!
And last, the second hero. The equitable, with hope pierced in their heart.
Here is my official introduction for my AU Mirror Souls!
Below is a further explanation of my AU.
Mirror Souls is a past AU that focuses on the war between humans and monsters, the one that is mentioned in the intro of Undertale and throughout its story.
The story will focus on both sides of the war, the good and the bad. As well as for more possible motives that anchored the declaration of war from the humans.
I know that in Waterfall the ancient glyphs state that the humans declared war out-of-the-blue due to fear that their souls would get absorbed by a monster. But to me, it is implying something else. For me, it is implying that before the war, monsters and humans lived together for a while, either in harmony or disharmony, my point being is they tolerated each other for a while with no major issues.
However, I believe something important or influential must have happened for the humans to use the soul absorption concern as an excuse to declare war against the monsters. Either by religion, fearmongering, land issues or lack of resources from the humans, there had to be something else going on behind the scenes.
Also, the ancient glyphs are written by the monster's view point of the war, it is most likely bias. We never see the human side on how they viewed the war. I wish to further investigate that in my works.
I will also introduce a third group in my work, Mages. The Mages are a third group of individuals that participate in both sides of the war. In Undertale, the ancient glyphs in Waterfall describe them as magicians.
In my story, they are an enigma, being neither completely human nor monster. Mages have both monster and human aspects to them. Some can pass on as regular humans. An example being just a slight change in their eye or hair color.
While with other Mages, the magic that they have absorbed will change their appearance drastically, like having their original appearance be unrecognizable to them.
Both humans and monsters have both positive and negative opinions of them, but they both equally fear them as well.
I will have an in more depth explanation of how Mages work in the future.
In the top panel, you may see some familiar faces. But let me start with the obvious ones, the main monster on the left is a young Prince Asgore and to his right is a young Princess Toriel. At this point in my story, they are not king and queen yet, and are still a newlywed young couple.
At the bottom panel, you can see the seven mages, alongside a sword-wielding silhouette on the left.
Those seven mages are known as the Seven Royal Mages, who are under the command of the Human capital, and are under the leadership of the sword-wielding poncho human.
Each have their own stories, arts, bios, and personalities that I will share sometime in the future.
Some additional art of the poncho human and the spear human!
And I also drew what they would've looked like in their adult years in the bottom left corner :)

(Copy and pasted explanation from my previous post)
Originally, I saw the human with the sword and the human with the spear as two separate people. Thus, I created fan art of them and made characters and stories out of them.
These are some of the first starting concepts leading up to my Mirror Souls AU!
Even with this being the 3 (or 4th?) major redesign I had of these characters, I was only satisfied with only a few of them. So, they will get another design somewhere in the future.

New lore below...
In my AU, mages are half human and half monster.
Mages can take on the magical and physical attributes of their monster and human parent. So, some mages can be more human leaning, monster leaning or somewhere in the middle.
The human royalty prefers that their Royal Mages to look as human as possible, but beggars can't be choosers. As their current royal mages are the best ones in the land they could find.
Thus, why Tosora was appointed the new leader of the group.
By having a human as their leader, it symbolizes humanity's strength in being able to control magic in their own twisted ways.
... a long time ago, during those past play times of theirs, Kloth accidentally trips during a game of chase.
Their hood flips over, and their 'human' face is revealed to Tosora.
Cici starts to break down and realizes she can't keep up with this secret anymore.

Behold, a face reveal of Kloth!
I finished up a mock-up of what an older Kloth would look like! With some other versions too :3
Kloth is based off of the long haired mage that is shown sealing off the monsters in Undertale.
This AU is still a big work in progress, and changes might happen to what I already have going on. But I hope to get a working timeline soon of it. :3
I haven't drawn nor talked much about my AU Mirror souls, but I promise it is still a work in progress.
I am continuing to fine tune some aspects of the story down. Which is just mostly behind the scenes writing and working on finalizing the character designs.
But in the meantime, here is a quick reference sheet I created for Cissal for the first arc! I will make some more for my other characters as well.
