Case in point what the fuck am I looking at.
The X Antibody was a mistake.
When you mentioned the overdesigning thing I literally thought of the X-Antibody Digimon seconds before I read it on your post. I mean i love how they look aesthetically but they're just so freaking complicated to draw, and I know a decent anime featuring them would be almost impossible.
I think they look cool as well but I feel for the majority of the designs the original digimon are better-looking. Many were already complex to begin with so it’s only natural the X-Antibody version looks like a clusterfuck of armor and ribbons and whatnot.
They even appear to be a nightmare just to draw in stills. Simpler digimon have way more dynamic poses while these designs are restricted to a simple standing up pose. The only way I could see them being animated is via CGI, but the anime community in general doesn’t seem to like that medium.
Writer Nonnie and sorry, I don't really watch shows or movies that much. Last time I went to the movies was.... I think Endgame? And for whatever reason despite having Netflix AND Hulu, and other sites, I just... Don't watch. Like, I can watch youtube videos all day but something like Castlevania I always watch with others. Maybe I should work on that.
(ack! Sorry, Writer Nonnie! I tried replying soon after it landed in my Askbox, but either the TumblrBeast or my wifi connection ate it.)
Yeah, Endgame was my “most recent...ish” In Theaters movie, too. And mostly because my brother wanted someone to watch it with. (Well, maybe the Downton Abbey movie, but I’ve got a lot of mixed feelings about that one, but I’m also admittedly not the best person to discuss what all is terribly terribly wrong with that movie.)
But in general, since my tastes lean towards SFF and animation, and I’m not comfortable watching the darker stuff with my family (or have any local Viewing Buddies...ever), I’ve just gotten used to viewing solo.
(Which, hey. No duct tape threats since I can laugh as loud as I want at the jokes, and pause/rewind to Analyze All The Things or simply get snarky. Viewing with a film buddy or group is definitely more fun, but Solo Viewing does have the benefit of “thank God I’m not annoying anyone” and not needing to wait to watch anything—or worse, watching an episode in 2-4 Parts. That...drives me nuts.)
And...I can definitely watch Series off of a streaming service or a single-or-binging a youtube video (or channel) much easier than I can tolerate live TV. I absolutely hate being chained to an airing schedule. So if it’s not on Netflix, I’m just not going to bother with it.
So...yeah. Everyone has their own Viewing Style(s)
(I do try to avoid accidentally blurting spoilers, tho...since chances are I’ve already Binged The Thing if I’ve watched it at all. Oops.)
I saw this shit while scrolling through my dash and the first thing that came to my mind was “this looks like a Captain Underpants ripoff”
TURNS OUT I WAS RIGHT, THEY’RE NOT EVEN SUBTLE ABOUT IT
And it’s whole deal is just... being gross... Because fuck you that’s why.
You know, Captain Underpants was successful because it didn’t rely on just gross-out humor. And the gross-out humor was actually, you know, humor. This franchise just has a sort of weird obsession or borderline fetish on gross-out. Not the humoristic part of it, just the bits that make you nauseous.

I always get sentimental and nostalgic on the holidays, so let's take a trip in the Wayback Machine with those catty haters at People Magazine, shall we?
