everything i think is wrong with the loki series !!
HB: heteroslop
Loki has been bisexual since his charecter was introduced to marvel in the 60's, and so far he has only ever had ONE cannon male love interest, in the book Where Mischief Lies. Their relationship lasted all of two seconds, and this book is far from main stream marvel. in the series they do mention loki being bisexual, and normally i wouldn't care if he ended up getting with a woman, it's just the fact that the writers had the perfect person to set him up with, but they were so desperate to not have a queer relationship that they choose selfscest instead.
1. They treated his gender like an easter egg
what was even the point of making loki canonically genderfluid in the MCU if they were going to completely ignore it? under sex in his TVA file, it states his gender as fluid, and they do absolutely nothing with this for the rest of the show. Loki's fluidity is a pretty big part of his character in the comics, and they give us this after him being written as a male in all the movies for what? why is he shocked that there's a woman variant when he is genderfluid, meaning she is quite literally also a woman? also the fact that he says this in front of multiple other variants, who are all also genderfluid, AND THEY AGREE? honestly Thor 2011 has better representation of loki's fluidity than this show, in his personality changes and the fact he's standing on what appears to be the female side during Thor's coronation. something this important to a character should not be treated like an easter egg, especially not when it's their literal gender.
2: he is a terrible liar
i completely understand why there was a shift in loki's personality so suddenly after arriving at the TVA straight from the battle of New York, since magic doesn't work in the tva,—including infinity stones—so it presumably cut off all effects the mind stone had on him from thanos' control really quickly, and i personally love that detail, but why is he so embarrassingly bad at lying in season one? maybe it's just me, but it irks me a bit. is that not part of what he's the god of?
3: inaccurate appearance
this is a short one, but if magic really doesn't work in the tva, why is loki not in his frost giant form like he is when he holds the casket of ancient winters? he should be blue.
4. Selfcest
this sort of goes with the honorable mention, but not about gender this time. I love Sylvie, and i don't care about the fact that she's the "woman variant" () i just care about the fact that she is literally loki. same dna. same PARENTS by the way. like if she and president loki switched roles, and loki ended up kissing another loki played by tom hiddleston, people would realize how weird that is right? i feel like it's no different than shipping thor and loki (which unfortunately some people do if you didn't know that already) Honestly i don't think sylvie was every really into him, and they're both definitely over it by season 2, which is my saving grace. it is just really weird to me though, and like i said in the honorable mention, it feels like a cheap way to avoid a queer relationship.
5: kid loki's nexus event.
Kid loki was supposed to kill thor. he did multiple times actually in Journey into Mystery, it's how he saved everyone. that was not a nexus event if it happened in the comics and was clearly supposed to happen. his nexus event should have been something that doesn't canonically happen in the comics.
i can probably think of more but this is what i have for right now.
seeing horrifying takes on ao3 comment section rn
i fucking hate the loki writers omfg. blaming all my life's problems on them rn
