                     martha’s  diner  is  haunted  as  shit .  heavy  fog  embraces  the  place ,  pressing  against  the  windows ,  blurring  faint , strange  lights  in  the  distance  and  enclosing  the  rest  of  the  town  in  a  quiet  slumber .  people ,  as  far  as  they  could  tell ,  are  a  rarity  outside  and  only  seen  during  the  early  morning  hours ,  though  mostly  hurrying  inside  once  approached .  stacey ,  in  her  mid-thirties  and  taking  their  orders  today ,  just  shrugs  at  herschel’s  observation ,  scribbling  down  two  cups  of  coffee  and  a  big  plate  of  pancakes .  she  claims  to  not  have  noticed  anything  odd  about  it  in  all  these  years ,  but  her  voice  wavers  and  her  feet  quickly  scurry  away  before  another  question  can  fall  from  either  of  their  tongues .  not  surprised  but  surely  intrigued ,  herschel  glances  at  andy ,  eyebrows  raised  in  an  almost  humours  way .  it’s  the  day   a f t e r   the  ghost  incident ,  things  are  quiet ,  hazy .  it’s  tired  eyes  and  weak  smiles ,  metallic  taste  on  dry  lips  and  cold ,  shaky  fingers  wrapped  around  a  hot  mug .   ❝   the town’s   UNDER   A   GLOBE .   ❞   cheeky  grin  plays  around  pale  lips ,  not  reaching  their  eyes  however ,  as  the  hoarse  tone  of  their  voice  does  nothing  but  attenuate  the   cleverness  of  a  joke  they’re  thinking  steven  king  would  be  proud  of .
