Your friends and you were whispering and giggling during the drawing of names for the Triwizard tournament, even if you were of age you would never put your name in there, it just wasn’t something you aspired to do. You didn’t quite understand why everyone wanted to participate, you did not particularly want to put yourself in harm's way, it was not something you strived to do.
“Now, for the Hogwarts champion,” The room went quiet when Dumbledore spoke, a pretty girl named Fleur Delacour was the chosen champion for Beauxbatons, and this cocky quidditch jock was chosen from Durmstrang who was named Viktor Krum. You couldn’t help but wonder which name would come from the Goblet of Fire. Would it be a Gryffindor? You think of your father, Sirius Black, who if the Triwizard Tournament took place during his years at Hogwarts would no doubt try to become the Hogwarts champion.
You were always a daddy’s girl growing up, you were his whole world. Things were never easy for your father, but when you turned up in his life he made it his mission to be the best father he could be to you. You grew up in a household of love, even though your mother was not present. That didn’t bother you though, because Sirius Black was the best dad a young girl could ask for. You remember when you got into Hogwarts, you were so excited to go and so was your dad. He always told you about the adventures he had with your uncles during his time, which made you want to attend even more. Part of you was scared that you would be sorted into Slytherin, you knew how your dad’s relationship with his Slytherin family was and didn’t want to be like that.
Luckily you got sorted into Hufflepuff which made your dad so proud of you, “y/n you have always been hard-working and loyal it makes sense. But you already know sweetie that it doesn’t matter what house you were sorted in, any one of them would have been so lucky to have a witch like you and I would be proud of you regardless.”
You were broke out of your thoughts of the Goblet of Fire going up in flames and shooting a small piece of paper into the sky for Dumbledore to catch. It was as if the whole room held their breath; they were waiting in anticipation to see who would represent Hogwarts as their chosen champion for the Triwizard tournament.
Dumbledore swiftly grabs the slightly burning piece of paper from the sky and unwrapped it. Everything went in slow motion as Dumbledore spoke, “y/n Black.” Your heart dropped, everything came crashing around you with an intensity that made you feel sick. How is this even possible? You aren’t even old enough to put your name in the Goblet.
‘Am I dreaming?’ You ask yourself as you close your eyes tight hoping that when you open your eyes you will be in your bed safe in your dorm room.
This hope was interrupted by your best friend, Sarah, nudging you before hurriedly whispering “y/n/n you have to go.”
It was as if the world was ending, the weight of the world was on your shoulders as you shakily stood up walking towards the table of professors. You could feel everyone’s eyes on you as you made your way up; people envied you because of the opportunity you have, and others were criticizing you. What makes her so special? You silently begged for your wobbly legs to not give out until you were in the room with the other champions.
As you pass the professors Snape has a small smirk on his face as McGonagall had an absolute mortified expression on her face, it was no secret you were her favorite student. Then there was Dumbledore who’s usual sparkling eyes held an unreadable emotion.
The moment you made it into the room with the other champions and their headmasters, your eyes laded on the strongly built Viktor Krum before anxiety took over and your knees gave out and the black consumed you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“What do you mean there is nothing you can do? You are the most powerful wizard! Y/n is too young to participate in the Triwizard tournament! The other champions have an upper-hand on her because they are older and are more experienced with magic!” Your father’s voice rang through the room where you still laid with your eyes closed.
“Sirius, I tried everything I could! I talked to the Minister of Magic and he said her name came out so she was chosen and there are no do-overs. We are working on figuring out how her name even got in the Goblet in the first place, the Goblet was protected with an age line.” Dumbledore’s calm demeanor never wavered.
You cracked your eyes opening taking in the bright light of the Hogwarts hospital wing. Your eyes land on the back of your father’s head, you can tell just from his posture he is raging.
“Dad?” Your voice cracked with anxiety. Your father whipped his head in your direction, the anger disappearing from his features and instantly being replaced with worry for his only daughter.
“Y/n, oh honey,” He comes and takes a seat on your bed before taking you in his arms and holding you with all his might and caresses your smooth y/h/c hair, “Oh my dear y/n/n.”
“Hello Miss Black, welcome back. I am going to give you some time with your father before I catch you up on everything that has happened. I hope you are feeling better and are ready for the challenges you face.” Dumbledore nods in your direction before making his way out.
You look at your father with tears welling up in your e/c eyes as he shoots a glare at the back of your headmasters head, “Dad I didn’t put my name in the Goblet, I promise I wo-”
Your father interrupts you, “Y/n, honey, I know. It is impossible for you to have. Someone has to be messing with us.” Worry is present on his features as he looks over you.
“Dad please, please get them to take me out. There has been a mistake. Can’t they pardon me? Or excuse me? I cannot do this.” Anxiety starts bubbling in your stomach again.
“Honey I tried, I tried everything I could. My position in the ministry isn’t powerful enough to make a difference, and Dumbledore’s hands are tied.” He grabs ahold of your hand giving it a squeeze of reassurance.
“Why me Dad? I mind my own business, I do all my studies, and I eat all my veggies daily. Dad, I’m scared.”
“Y/n I know, I am scared too. I think someone is trying to get to me. I am sorry that they are doing that through you. But don’t worry honey, you are probably the brightest witch of your age. You can do it, even if you don’t win I know you will make it through this.” Your dad pushes the hair from your face as the tears started rushing down your face.
“Dad I am not like you! I am not a brave Gryffindor. I do not have the courage you do Dad I-” your voice falters when you see a small sad smile on his face. “Dad?”
“Oh y/n, you do not give yourself enough credit. Just because you are not Gryffindor does not mean you lack the traits of one. You are so loyal and hardworking, and so modest about how great you are. You are one of the bravest people I know, and I am not just saying that because you’re my daughter y/n, I mean it. This whole parenting thing has been hard for me, but I am proud of how you turned out. You and I took each day one at a time and I would like to say we have been very successful.” You smile up at your dad noticing small tears streaming down his cheeks as he smiles at you, “Y/n, I am so proud of who you are. You are turning into such a strong and powerful woman. You are so capable of anything you put your mind to. You put your heart into everything you do and that is what sets you apart from everyone else honey. That’s what makes you the brightest witch to exist.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The first two tasks and the Yule ball went by with a breeze. Ironically Viktor Krum asked you to attend the ball with him, so you did. The media loved that, “Underdog Y/n Black has a fellow Champion Protector?” Viktor Krum wasn’t as amazing as everyone made him out to be, you believe talking to a wall would be more interesting than anything Viktor had to say. The Yule Ball wasn’t as magical for you as it was for everyone else.
You are broken out of your memories as you remember your task at hand. Currently, you are running through the tall hedges of the maze for your last task. Right now you are in the lead, having done astonishing well on the first few tasks. You truly were the underdog and we're showing everyone how strong you truly are.
So far you have had to face boggarts and other magical creatures in the maze, but those were nothing. Professor McGonagall took it upon herself to help train you with common hexes to protect yourself along with defense spells. Your dad also sends hundreds of books about defense and how to protect yourself so you could have an idea of what you were getting into.
You haven’t seen any of the other champions the whole time you have been in the maze, you begin to wonder where they are in the maze and if they are close to getting the Triwizard Cup. The chilling silence crawls up your spine as your anxiety keeps you on edge afraid to run into another champion.
`The maze walls start closing in and to your right you see the cup. You put your wand in your pocket before you start running with everything in you. Your lungs burn and your legs are screaming because of the pain they feel from all the training you have been doing. You can see the shining of the cup, you can’t help but smile, being beyond proud of yourself.
‘I did this, I did it!’ You think to yourself, being proud.
You come to a skidding stop when someone steps in your way. Fear bubbles up in your throat as you stare forward at the figure. You cannot see the person's face because they are wearing a black hooded cloak.
“Who are you-” You reach for your wand fearing the worse but you are not fast enough as the hooded figure puts up their want with a bright purple stream that strikes you right in the chest.
As you fall to the ground it feels like you are looking at a flipbook as different pictures cloud your view of the hooded figure standing above you. They didn’t utter a word, they can do wandless magic. Fear rises to your throat as you let out an ear-piercing scream, but you’re cut short when the hooded figure again hits you with another hex.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Y/n” your dad, Sirius, breaths out. He has been by your side for the past week while you’ve been in a coma at St. Mungos. Whoever the hooded figure was struck you with an unknown kind of dark magic, so everyone has been holding their breath hoping you will pull through and be okay.
“Sweet sweet y/n. Your soul has always been too pure for this world. You came during such a dark time in my life, and you were just what I needed. Guaranteed I knew nothing about babies or raising a kid, but I did it. I am beyond grateful for you. You are too pure for this world honey, too pure to be my daughter.” Tears are pouring out of your father’s eyes as he holds tightly onto your hand and presses it to his lips for the hundredth time.
Sirius’ brain is running a million miles a second, remembering all the milestones you guys went through as a small family. The first time he held you, the first time you cried, your first steps, the first time you fell, when you met his best friends, when you did magic for the first time, and when you got accepted into Hogwarts. He can’t help but feel like there was something more he could have done to help you. He is criticizing and blaming his every action. He should have fought the Ministry, he knew you were too young and you were going to be at a huge disadvantage.
He thinks about when he heard your bloodcurdling scream, his heart dropped. He knew it was you, he knew it was his baby girl in agony. What scared him more was when he heard your scream get cut off abruptly. Dumbledore made a beeline to you in the maze with your father closely on his heels. When they found you a hooded figure was standing over you laughing wickedly at the situation. Before Dumbledore or your dad could react he was booking it to the Triwizard trophy, which was a portkey. He was gone, just like that. Sirius wanted to chase after him but when he saw you laying lifeless on the ground, he felt like his whole world was ending and you were his top priority.
Tears are still rushing down your fathers face as he rests his head on your hand, “It has always been me and you, y/n, always. I should have done more, I should hav-” he chokes before he can finish, taking a breath before continuing, “Please honey, please keep fighting. You have given my life so much purpose, you have gifted me with the greatest accomplishment, being your father. I don’t want to live in a world where my brilliant, beautiful daughter is not present y/n/n. You are supposed to outlive me and take care of me when I am in the hospital, not the other way around. I am not supposed to watch my child, my life’s greatest accomplishment, leave me. Please y/n/n please pull-”
Your father was interrupted by you saying, “Who knew you were such a sap dad,” his tear-filled grey eyes meet yours as you give him a small weak smile with chapped lips.
Without a second thought, he wraps his arms around you protectively, just like he did when you were younger and you woke up from a night terror. “Y/n y/m/n Black, you are never allowed to leave me here, you have to outlive me. I never want you to be here again. You are my world baby, I love you.” He presses a kiss to the top of your head.
Tears well up in your eyes as you smile, “I love you too Dad,” then you give a small giggle, “I hope you know I didn’t really plan on being in this position in the first place.” Your dad lets out a breathy laugh as he holds onto even tighter. Looking up thanking the stars that you are okay. He is crying, not out of sadness though, no he is crying out of happiness and relief. There would never be a day Sirius Black had to live without his darling daughter, y/n Black if he had a say in it.
