     Jiuniang sniffled, her lower lip      still trembling even as she tried     to get ahold of herself. She took a      deep breath, using the soft fabric     of her cloak to wipe her eyes, which     remained stubbornly wet. It seemed     that being told not to cry only made     her feel like crying even more.

     ❛  I- I’m s- sorry.. I.. I didn’t mean– ❜

     Jiuniang’s cheeks began to grow     darker in color, as trembling hands     gripped tightly at the sides of her      white cloak. She didn’t know why     she thought she could take on those     fallen angels all by herself.. Maybe     deep down, she knew she couldn’t..     But she wanted to believe that maybe     she could. That maybe she was stronger     than she thought, and that maybe she      could do more to help her squad members.

     She thought wrong.

     Not only did she bite off way     more than she could chew, but     it got to a point where Raindrop Cake     had to jump into the fray and save her.     Despite his constant remarks about     how weak he was, he made quick work     of the fallen angels. Which left Jiuniang     safe (if slightly bruised), but also embarrassed     and frightened.

     For a moment, Jiuniang found      herself worrying that she’d made      the wrong thing, judging by his      melancholy expression. Did he      not like it ? Or maybe she’d prepared      it wrong..  What if he just didn’t like her ?      Fearing his rejection or offense,      Jiuniang was on the verge of      apologizing before he finally spoke.
