How did Misha's livestream relate to the election?
Oh my gosh, Anon, I am so happy you asked me this, because I’ve been like dying to talk about it. Alright so, if you do a feed search of the word ‘Cass’ on Misha’s twitter, you’ll find that he only referred to Castiel as ‘Cass’ last week. If you do a search for ‘Cas’, you’ll get every time he talks about his character. What this means is that he literally made the conscious decision to go on twitter and start shit. Which, like, is not necessarily out of the ordinary for Misha, but once you get on his facebook page, he starts referring to his involvement with the election:
For me, this immediately made me think of the comments Misha had been getting regarding his livestream about campaigning in Iowa. Granted, I had not been on twitter to witness the shitstorm there, but that’s what I thought of. Now, as for the livestream itself.
I was kind of shocked when I realized it was about spelling. And I listened to him go on about spelling for like the 15mins or whatever, and I got more and more confused. And then I realized how he made it an absolute point to highlight, like every five seconds, that he was so happy he was creating a dialogue–and that actually, it’s so important for people to be able to express their opinions, not only to each other, but to people who are thought to be authorities or leaders.
[Spelling was also a conscious choice: not every issue is as important to every voter (it certainly doesn’t seem to be a big thing for him in particular), but he was channeling Hillary here and creating a safe space for discussion no matter his own opinion of the thing at hand. He also highlighted that though it might have seemed trivial to some people, that doesn’t mean it’s not something that should be ignored. This is something that drives Hillary Clinton’s platform. Trump has consistently brushed off questions and issues to talk about what he wants to talk about.]
“Better Together” is the slogan of Clinton’s campaign. In contrast with Trump, (who’s a racist, sexist, bigoted fuckhead who is interested in alienating everyone but rich white men,) Clinton has been calling for inclusivity; democrats, republicans, libertarians–Hillary Clinton wants to be your president. Her entire platform is based upon the kind of dialogue Misha had with people on that livestream. She wants to listen to you and come up with a collaborative solution to your problems. She DOES NOT want to make snap, rash decisions (like bombing the hell out of someone, for example, or building a wall, or refusing refugees/singling people out on the basis of ideological/religious views like early-mid-20th Century Germany) on her own, and then apologize (or not apologize) for it later. She’s all about being a president for every person, and is wholly committed to that.
Misha Collins is not an idiot. He took something he knows we’re all passionate about and used it to address another issue we’re all passionate about: the election. Where he got destroyed by Trump supporters on his social media when he expressly talked about the thing at hand, everyone agreed with him, here. EVERYONE thought working together was a better alternative than thinking of TPTB as a fascist powerhouse. So, basically, he managed to talk about the election and state his case as a Clinton supporter, without actually addressing the elephant in the room and having all the hardcore republican/other assorted crazies jump down his throat. Hell, he even did the whole ‘pointing but not pointing’ thing politicians do towards the end of the stream (which was clearly meant to be a ‘political’ speech).
So yeah, that’s my explanation, Anon :) Misha’s a meta freaking genius.
TL;DR: Misha Collins is so fantastically fucking meta, he used a livestream to put Clinton’s “Better Together” slogan into action while simultaneously clearly saying how awful it would be if this kind of dialogue didn’t exist (alluding to Trump).
