Is this useful? Hot Breakfast: 1/2 cup (80 grams) steel cut oats, 1 1/3 cups water (320 ml/g). Heat the water to boiling in a small saucepan. Turn off heat, add oats, and cover. In the morning the oats are nearly cooked and can be transferred to a microwave safe bowl and cooked for 3-5 minutes or heated in the pan for 2 minutes to produce a very /thick/ oatmeal. Add any of the usual things like milk, milk substitute, dried fruit, or spices for a healthy breakfast.

Birthdays as not a big thing. Truly you are an adult today.

Yeah, I know - but to be sincere, my birthdays rarely were kind of big deal, I was never one for big parties, even as a kid. My biggest sign for adulthood today was that my mother was the one person that gave me a gift (and well, my father sent me a basket full of sweets so I counting two)

I, like many people, saw your conversation with medieval people of color about violence in A Song of Ice and Fire. Are there any resources that you could point a reader at to learn about the rates of violence in the middle ages/feudal period? Especially during either the Hundred Years War, the Anarchy, or the struggle between the House of York and Lancaster. Thanks if you can point me in the right direction.

There are a few, although my point was about how people make huge sweeping assumptions about the Middle Ages and claim historical authenticity without thinking about a) how big and varied the Middle Ages were; and b) how much interpretation and projection has been made on and about the Middle Ages since the end of them, not really about the violence. But you might check out The Wars of the Roses by Alison Weir to get you started; it's actually very thorough and readable considering how irritatingly complicated the Wars of the Roses were. As you're researching, though, keep in mind that part of the reason these incidents stick in our minds and history are because they were atypical, not representative of the entire Middle Ages (if anything at all could be said to be representative of the entire Middle Ages).

Hey you!I do still play games, just not in public, mostly with my friends, hardly ever online. I haven't bothered keeping up with a community I really miss and it seems to be a bit different now but I am not sure. Other fandoms can be just as challenging but I don't feel as many pressures to compete.

I am afraid I am going to be “his neutralness” and say that I have no strong opinions one way or the other. I loved DS9 back in the day, but I fear revisiting it because I have changed so much since then.

I was pretty indifferent to most of the series as a kid simply because it was such a basic part of my life, but Jadzia I always admired greatly. Mum, dad, and I have been marathoning the series over the past few months and now there's no doubt in my mind that DS9 is my favourite of all. 

You should try revisiting it, wholly or just a few episodes. Maybe you'll like it even more?

There was some quote on tumblr a while ago about why DS9 was so great, and it was about how the stationary nature of the ship made it that they had to face the consequences of their actions rather than flit from planet to planet and not address anything. I can totally back this up, but it's also great because how the crew and civilians on board just feel like a family to me.
