here's some warmup busts
i headcanon that zodyl named his coat after his little sister 🫠
So how do we feel about the fact that Zodyl is lowkey a magical girl? Not on board? Let me walk you through it guys, I swear I am cooking. (i need to yap) (manga spoilers, i guess.)
Gachiakuta, Chapter 106: Lurkers. I need to make a note, that when Zodyl drops upon the Cleaners, HE STILL HAS HIS MASK BTW. And as far as I am aware his mask is not attached to his coat or as far as I know how raider’s masks work. Why do I mention if his mask is affixed to Mishra in the first place? Well because it’s suspicious and weird it disappears right after his transformation but before I get to it, let me make another point we are all much very aware of when it comes to Zodyl!
Gachiakuta, Volume 10 Cover. We are all aware that Zodyl barely gives a fuck about Mishra, but has it to work. Anyways, we are not here to discuss his intentions, thus we see that Mishra is barely held together. Very clumsily too but it seems to work towards his transformation. His coat is attached to his shirt, it be merged together and acts as one piece. I can’t much speak about the other upper half pieces, my brain is just working on the one piece of clothing and them being attached conclusion for now. Now.
Gachiakuta, Chapter 106: Lurkers. Think of this in magical girl lenses. Zodyl says the magical words, magical formula, and in this case "Vital Instrument. Mishra.", and in weird/out of nowhere light (?) gets sucked up into it quite literally. (and when it comes to zodyl, probably some dead organism eaten off screen) So let’s think of that segment as of the "magical girl transformation sequence", we are not Zodyl, we are not going through the transformation, thus to us is just flash of light and an instant done thing. For Zodyl? I bet there is some music sequence while his coat morphs.
Gachiakuta, Chapter 106: Lurkers. And now would we look at that! Brand new look! Coat is still at the ends tattered but looks far better than before! And his shirt lowkey kinda same but his belt is nowhere to be seen Like he is strapped. (My english vocabulary does not include pieces of clothing and accessories but there is clear visual difference of his upper half clothing to his usual wear.)
AND.
Gachiakuta, Chapter 106: Lurkers.
No. Mask. No mask to be seen whatsoever. NO MASK BUT BRAND NEW LOOK. Instead of mask he has markings around his eyes. Markings. New fit, old fit gone/changed, make up done. The case writes itself! And some of its own powers that come with this magical girl transformation! Obviously.
Gachiakuta, Chapter 106: Lurkers.
Like gets into pose, and charges an attack and unleashes it, you know. Pointy attack, I dunno.
Gachiakuta, Chapter 107: Elder. Again, same thing, eats up something to trigger his next (magical girl) transformation of his coat. And it swiftly changes into a new look.
Gachiakuta, Chapter 107: Elder. This would be the middle of changing the fit. In midst of changing.
Gachiakuta, Chapter 108: Stay out of our way, seriously. Finished new fit, plus new markings. I don’t have anything else to add, this is just. He is a magical girl. Or Mishra gives you access to the magical girl transformation, meaning Canis Surebrec was a magical girl too. I need his biography at this point.
"So, why Mishra? What does the name mean?"
— Weide.
Well Weide , the name Mishra means mixed, or combined which alines with her abilities of combining anything I eat with her, making me able to extract that energy when I use her. As a bonus, the name Mishra is a beautiful one really. Overall I think its quite fitting for her.
((I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR A QUESTION LIKE THIS HEHEH
Urza is so compelling to me. His human moments are so sad and real, which makes the frustrating and callous things he does that much harder to watch, especially as you get deeper into his saga. He's fundamentally not a Hero. He's the kind of guy who would struggle to exist in society at the best of times, but he has enormous power and responsibility plopped into his lap constantly.
He has this constant cadence of like, being fundamentally unsuited for something thrust upon him, doing it anyway because of his stubbornness and misguided sense of responsibility ,failing and creating a huge problem, being horrified and dismayed at how bad he fucked up, becoming damaged and depressed, vowing to do better, but then starting the cycle over when the consequences of his actions come home to roost and the mental damage from his last mistake make him unsuited for truly fixing anything.
Its so messy and human, especially for a character that is ostensibly the mc of his era of magic. Instead of a wish fulfillment self insert, you get mopey disaster Dr. Manhattan. You get depressing Gandalf trapped in a cycle of self-sabotage that he is constantly dragging the whole universe into.
I can't believe they gave Mishra a bloomsona too!
