Celebrity Uncle and Aunty have Mid Autumn Festival lunch at Small Fry. Delighted to take Chinese Opera Aunty Janet (and former restaurateur) and Uncle Charles of The Mooncake And The Kumara fame to visit Miss Changy (Ruby White). Uncle regaled us with his encounters with giant yew char kway and I learnt why they are called that. Took Aunty Alice to Miss Changys new eatery Small Fry at Te Tuhi. Aunty Alice and Uncle both come from Kuching, a city Ruby is well familiar with. Aunty had the Sarawak Laksa (top right) and she pronounced it hit all the right spice notes. Uncle had the congee, miso brown rice porridge with mushrooms, truffle, seaweed, onsen egg and you tiao (Chinese cruellers). It was hearty and flavoursome. We had a taste of Kaya on toast, rekindling memories of Malaysian breakfasts.
