First meal of 2018 Comfort food of Moi (Congee) to counter 2 day’s feeling under the weather, what in Hokkien is “kam tiok”, a change to really hot weather and being constantly caught in torrential downpours. Moi of rice porridge, with traditional mix of egg, pork mince, pig’s heart (which I pushed to the side), topped with you tiao and crispy shallots. #bakkutteh a.k.a #肉骨茶 from Hokkien dialect means "meat bone tea", consists of meaty pork ribs simmered in a complex broth of herbs and spices (including star anise, cinnamon, cloves, dang gui, fennel seeds and garlic). Additional ingredients may include offal, varieties of mushroom, choy sum, and pieces of dried tofu or fried tofu puffs. In Malaysia, it is often served with strips of fried dough known as #youcharkway (#油炸鬼 ) or #youtiao (#油条 ). The dish can be garnished with chopped coriander or green onions and a sprinkling of fried shallots. Light/dark soy sauce is offered as condiment, with chopped chilli padi and minced garlic. Celebrity Uncle and Aunty have Mid Autumn Festival lunch at Small Fry. Delighted to take Chinese Opera Aunty Janet (and former restaurateur) and Uncle Charles of The Mooncake And The Kumara fame to visit Miss Changy (Ruby White).
