I feel like this Doctor is very different from the others re companions, especially recently. They wanted someone to keep them right. To give them fresh eyes to the wonders of the universe. I feel like Thirteen wants them like Mary Seacole - someone to say ‘you did your best, I appreciate you’, turn a blind eye to her doing morally inconsistent things (like sending a POW to his certain death so she can track him), and be a competent pair of hands that can follow her orders.
