Huh, TIL! I know absolutely nothing about gemstones, really. So I guess it’s safe to say that the show takes some liberties as far as gemstones, their meaning, their make-up, etc. goes. 

Oh that line about graceful murdering gazelle was absolutely 100% inspired by Knope.

Someone else mentioned this in a reply to the post, and yep - those probably are Amethysts, especially considering in the episode prior we learned that what a proper Amethyst is meant to look like. How I missed this, I’ll never know.
