Don't chase the rabbit~ [but only if you feel like it c:]
One evening, in a small, suburban town, Samhain saw a little boy in a robot’s costume sobbing quietly on a park bench. Samhain had a soft spot for kids, and so went up to him to see what was the matter, “Hey there, laddie..” The kid looked up, sniffing and rubbing his nose with his sleeve. “What’s th’matter, eh? Why’re ye all th’ way out here when yer supposed t’be out there, trick-or-treatin’?” Sam asked, sitting himself next to the boy.
The boy didn’t look at all scared, thinking that his arms were just part of the costume. And since the older boy sounded really nice, he told him, “…The bigger kids won’t let me join..” pointing out to a group of boys, huddling over their latest hoarde by a nearby tree. ”Why’s that then?” Sam asked again, to which the boy replied, pouting, “..Cus they said robots aren’t scary enough..”
"Well, pfft, what do they know. I betcha ye can scare them so bad, they’ll be runnin’ to their mamas right after," Sam chuckled, eyeing the group. "You’re such a liar!" the boy retorted, though a small smile was forming on his face.
"No, no, it’s true, I’ll prove it to ye. Cus there’s a secret to scarin’ y’see? Ye wanna know th’ secret?" he asked the boy but he told him anyway, "It’s not about th’costume. It’s bout ‘the element o’surprise’. Gets em every time. Here’s what ye do.." and in a minute he whispered into the boy’s ear.
Over by the tree, the older boys were discussing how to mix and divide their hoarde when suddenly a cardboard robot head dropped from above, giving them a shock. Looking around, there was no one in the tree. Just then, one of them felt a tap on their shoulder. Turning around, they were relieved only to see the little boy in the robot costume. However, what they didn’t expect was the older boy standing slightly further away.
Samhain gave his scariest face, eyes glowing bright neon-green, his hair ablaze with green fire, and black tendrils appearing from all sides of his body. The boys screamed and ran, crying for their mothers and leaving their stash behind. The little boy turned around, but there was no one behind him. He looked behind the tree and saw that Sam was sitting right where he left him. Overjoyed and feeling proud of himself, he grabbed some of the leftover stash, ran back to Sam and gave him some, “Gee! You were right all along! Thanks mister!”
"Don’t mention it, laddie," Sam replied, patting his head. He told him to run along now and collect the candy while he still could. After the boy said goodbye, Sam smiled widely to himself and looked up at the full moon, hanging low and bright. "Happy Halloween~"
