Song: "You Never Loved This City" by Piano Magic, Brendan Perry
------------------------
the lights go out with your shoes
past neon signs
through the misting sky
you waltz across the cracking sidewalk
following a man you've never met
around the corner
straight up the block
where robins call a warning
and hawks circle near
along the cobbles
and beyond the fence
down an alleyway
or in a church
the spirit wanders
soft like a child in the night
and you never know
where you were
until you're home
There was this one time at band camp...
black asphalt hot as the
sun's face
skin freckling in the
midday
heel-toe and twenty-fourth notes
up to Radio Gaga
and back down the sweat of my calves
this bitch screamed at me until she was hoarse
I imagined the bell of my clarinet
colliding
with the apple of her cheek
tan skin splitting open
under her mirror shades
the sting of a wasp
her savior
I teared up at the pain
sharp as a knife
twisting
six months later I would
turn in my plume
and never look back
Apestamos a fin y a adversidad.
