V-Day on Veterans Day: A win against the Falcons that is still fresh in my mind. It was a tough tough year.
“There’s nothing sweeter than a win against the Falcons – except when that win gives Atlanta their first mark in the “L” column. That's what happened on Nov. 11, 2012, when the Saints beat the then-undefeated Falcons 31-27 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.“ -The Times Piccayune

"...the Greek root of the word crisis is 'to sift,' as in to shake out the excesses and leave only what is important. That's what crises do. They shake things up until we are forced to hold on to only what matters most." -Glennon Doyle Martin, CARRY ON WARRIOR
The true story of that one selfish guy.
I remember when I first fell in love with this song. It was August 2001. I was one summer removed from starting my military career. 9/11 was still just a nightmare nobody would have ever imagined. I was just two weeks from leaving for college in San Francisco. Two weeks away from begining the main leg of the journey to my dreams. I was reading in shock about the plane crash death of Aaliyah on my new lap top. I was fielding messages from people who were acting funny toward me, probably because I was leaving. I was, for the first time, beginning to question the possibility that my dream may fail. I was almost backing out. I was only 18 years old and I was realizing for the first time every journey has a cost, and nothing is guaranteed.
My dream, thus far, has not come to pass. I am back in the same town where I heard this song for the first time. And I am still suffering the cost of 9/11.
Yet, as I face leaving some things behind yet again, and as I survey the damage of the last 13 years, I am reminded...this is just another leg. The journey process is the end. And I really haven't failed yet. I only fail when I quit.
WALK ON (all that you can't leave behind) U2
And love, it's not the easy thing The only baggage, that you can bring Not the easy thing, the only baggage you can bring Is all that you can't leave behind
And if the darkness is to keep us apart And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off And if your glass heart should crack Before the second you turn back Oh no, be strong
Oh, oh, walk on, walk on What you got, they can't steal it No, they can't even feel it Walk on, walk on Stay safe tonight
You're packin' a suitcase for a place, none of us has been A place that has to be believed, to be seen You could have flown away, a singin' bird in an open cage Who will only fly, only fly for freedom
Oh, oh, walk on, walk on What you got, you can't deny it Can't sell it or buy it Walk on, walk on You stay safe tonight
And I know it aches How your heart, it breaks You can only take so much
Walk on, walk on
Home, hard to know what it is If you never had one Home, I can't say where it is But I know I'm going Home, that's where the heart is
And I know it aches And your heart, it breaks You can only take so much
Walk on
Leave it behind You've got to leave it behind
All that you fashion, all that you make All that you build, all that you break All that you measure, all that you feel All this you can leave behind
All that you reason, all that you care (It's only time and I'll never fill up all my mind) All that you sense, all that you scheme All you dress up, and all that you see All you create, all that you wreck All that you hate

Humble Abode
Brennan Manning: Jesus, who forgave the sins of the paralytic (thereby claiming divine power), proclaims that He has invited sinners and not the self-righteous to His table. The Greek verb used here, kalein, has the sense of inviting an honored guest to dinner. In effect, Jesus says the kingdom of His Father is not a subdivision for the self-righteous nor for those who feel they possess the state secret of salvation. The kingdom is not an exclusive, well-trimmed suburb with snobbish rules about who can live there. no, it is for a larger, homelier, less self-conscious caste of people who understand they are sinners because they have experienced the yaw and pitch of moral struggle.

Do the secret work. The people behind you will get the first fruits of your reward and it will be frustrating. Do it anyway. You will strive. There will be sleepless nights and battles. There will be people who oppose you or worse, those that think they are on your side but really only make extra obstacles. Those are the people who are eating your fruit probably. The work will be boring too. It will be BORING. Inglorious. On top of the reward being someone else's. You may even get shot for it and someone else will take that credit and glory from you too. Do it anyway. It is not in spite of this you do your work. It is because of this. It is because of this that people after you will go farther, run faster, be stronger. People will take what you earn.
Your victory is their victory.
Do it anyway.
Do it because of this.
Do your work.
