“You are foolish and blind to the ways of the world in ways that you cannot rightly comprehend.” Icy eyes shifted to meet her gaze, tone and posture remaining neutral despite his voiced displeasure. “The world as you have known it to be has changed, and yet you reject our efforts to repair it--to reshape it into what it once was.” There was a pause--a moment of silence as he reflected on what was, and what could have been for but a moment.
“My expectations for you were grand.”
(( oh, here's a sort of character question: what kind of stuff does maxson wear / carry into the mojave and what's his hair like? & how practical is he about dress in general? ))
Maxson travels lightly, which is quite possibly part of the source in regards to the general upheaval that surrounded his rise to power, but largely in part of his tour of the Mojave. The paranoia that he will indeed be shot or worse due to his lack of general bodily protection still stands in later years, but those within his inner circle know well of his skill. Many clench their teeth and bite their tongues when he leaves the Prydwen, let alone the Citadel or departing to the Mojave. That being said, any weapons he has chosen to care will be small and unassuming. A combat knife tucked into his boot, a pistol strapped to his thigh or tucked into a holster at his hip, and an assault rifle that goes largely untouched and left slung over his shoulder against his back.
Arthur wears very little physical armour and more often favours a simple undershirt tucked into military fatigues and worn combat boots. He does have an additional trench coat plainly marked with Brotherhood heraldry on the bicep of the right sleeve, though it is usually only ever worn once the sun sets and the bitter chill of the evening air sets in, or when the weather becomes unfavourable. His hair is left bit longer in the front and cut closely in the back–medium length and almost unruly, and is chin is always shaved clean.
Many consider his decisions in the firearm and physical protection department to be foolish and brazen–that the amount of stress that he puts on his chosen squadron is counterproductive and selfish, though there is a purpose therein. It is a tactical choice to firstly find the weaknesses in the unit he has chosen and kept by his side since day one, but also to hone their abilities–to make them painfully aware that anything can happen at any point, anywhere, and that they must be alert at all times. Though in the stifling desert climate, he is quite obviously much better prepared to battle the humidity than his armoured battalion is. It is not so much that he is dependent on them, but rather to force the selected men and women to work together accordingly–for if they cannot, how can the Brotherhood even hope to survive? It is from these very choices that his own mental image of the Brotherhood begins to formulate, and with its their success, the grander his ambitions
