possible, to one day be able to laugh Death in the face. And then here Death comes, with a long fall from his heavenly perch, eh? (3/3)
Not Joe/Nicky, but something that stuck out to me even on my first watch through of TOG: the architecture of Merrick's building. The lower floors are all nice and shiny, clean glass: transparent to the outside world, inviting, and nothing to hide. But then you get to the penthouse, which is so fittingly in a style known as 'brutalist.'A concrete, unyielding vault that only allows glimpses of what goes on inside, where Merrick can hide all his dirty secrets of how (1/3)
he gets his world-changing results. The entire building is cold and sterile, sharp lines ready to bleed bodies dry for even the chance at long life. It's a monument to his own drive and his willingness to commit any act to make his goals a reality. And the company is Merrick's life, further exemplified by the fact he doesn't maintain a separate home property. He lives to make sure he can eventually live as long as (2/3)

(Poor @missixo and I had so much trouble with my ask box trying to get this to come through lol, hence why I’m doing this with the 3rd and not the 1st ask. *sigh* we made it work though.)
I fucking love this!
Mostly because I’m sure they chose this building for that very reason. The more I watch this movie, and the more the fandom dissects every shot and background detail the more I’m convinced Gina really put her fucking ALL into making this movie.
The building is absolutely this stone behemoth on concrete and glass.
Then we go inside, and I’m always struck by how welcoming and clean the interior is. I mean I would never say it was warm or comfortable. But it’s sleek and modern. And that choice is so opposite of most action movies would light their third act fight.
The entire scene is lit by natural, bright, white light. And given what we already know about Merrick and what we further see him do during this first scene is made all the more creepy by the contrast of the lighting. And I think that’s fucking genius!
The only time we see that bright clear light interrupted is in the in lowest points for the Guard, first when they are locked in the lab where we see first florescent lighting and then red/blue alarms:
And when the bomb goes off and the room is covered in smoke, thus creating a more grey/washed out pallet:
But other than those two low points the Guard are mostly doing good, mostly winning, and thus mostly in bright open spaces. It’s really great visual storytelling. But because they put us off with that first scene where Joe and Nicky are stabbed and tased we don’t actually feel safe in the light. They essentially took away our security blanket.
Even in the aftermath of Joe taking his revenge on Keane where he just looks absolutely wrecked. Which, not only would most action movies not give us that moment of vulnerability for a male action star. But it would 100% have been in some weird, dark, blue lit room.
We also get Nile’s Big Damn Hero moment in bright easy to see lighting without sacrificing the tension. Just- *chefs kiss*
Ok I want to talk about one more thing that I noticed while making this post:
Gina/Tami/Barry shoot Copley and Merrick so interestingly imo. There are multiple shots where Merrick is partially obscured vs Copley who is more or less not. I think it’s such a fun visual storytelling choice to show us a man who thinks, or at least wants other to think, that he is in the right, and TRANSPARENT in his actions. But then to obscures him with a clear piece of glass. The transparent front he puts up is a lie, and obscures the truth.
Anyway. I have no conclusion or fun way to end this sooooo here’s one more gif of a snarky king for the road:

I've been out of the supernatural loop for a good minute. So... wtf just happened?
Apparently Destiel is somewhat canon but in a rather horrifying badly written way that’s cringe-tastic and more than a touch homophobic I haven’t watched the show since, like... season six. I gave up thinking “fuck it I’ll catch up when it ends” and it STILL HASN’T??????
To this day I don’t know how much of the plot I hear about is real and how much was just shitposts I took seriously
So I think you're the one that had Kallus with a natively Scottish accent and he got speech therapy to sound so very Upper Corusanti? I propose he specifically sounds like dear sandybatchelor, of viral apartment walkthrough fame.
Ack, sorry! That isn’t me and I can’t think of who it is off the top of my head. Closest I’ve come is giving him a different accent in an upcoming fic, but I don’t specify what it sounds like.
But this is a hilarious idea and needs to be shared! Make other people’s mornings, too. :D
Iruka: complains about crazy jounin. Also Iruka: may actually be crazier than those jounin.
He likes to think he’s the Only Sane Man, but then his brain and/or self-preservation instinct glitches and he is indeed just as ridiculous as all the jounin.
If you HAD to pick a single type of bat, which bat? (Nothing bad would happen to the other bats)
Flying fox bat! I love how big they are~
Hi so I just found Kallazeb like a week ago and proceeded to binge on... well, everything, including your monster WIP (like three times...). Two things for you! One, what did Chopper say about Zeb's sleep talking habits in chapter one? Two, whenever Kallus gets there, how confusing would he be to the locals of Lira San? Cuz he's got full head hair like a female, but facial hair like a male, and they're not the most familiar with humans.
Ah, my! A fresh-faced Kalluzeber! Well, welcome to our happy, if small throng. We’re all one happy family. :D And...you’ve binged TCTW three times? ...whoa. I stand in awe, my dear. Awe and mad appreciation. Glad you’re enjoying it. Aaaand questions. So, Chopper was mostly making dirty comments about Zeb and Kallus in that scene, so the implication was that he’d overheard Zeb saying some...fairly graphic things about the ex-Imperial in his sleep. As far as getting to Lira San goes (y’know, if I get into that; I’m honestly not certain I will in this particular story), I imagine the locals will just find Kal an all-around oddity just because he’s an alien. And the epilogue does tell us he’s welcomed as one of them, so I’d say the culture shock isn’t anymore than skin deep. :-)
What's the difference between Chessex cirrus and Chessex vortex? I've got a couple and I can't figure it out to remember when people ask me what my dice are.
They look visually really similar, and tbh I’m not sure why Chessex named them like they did. Both are a colorful medium, either translucent or opaque, swirled with white opaque. They really could just as easily be the same line.
