in her years since calling england h o m e eivor had come to notice the subtleties in it’s splendor . the days had grown longer , with the sun hanging longer at the crest of it’s ascension before it began it’s plummet into a shorter night . it was in one such night ravensthorpe had been cast into now , with the grass at it’s ankles alight with hundreds of glowworms -- dancing and celebrating to a silent song not meant for their like . it was almost enough to bring homesickness to mind --
-- a sky above alight with the thundering hooves of the valkyrie , carrying those danes that had fallen with valor and honor to the halls of the dead --
-- but was she not in the presence of a valkyrie of her own ? kassandra mystified eivor . enraptured her in a way she could not quite comprehend . light followed her with blinding brilliance . . . it was confusing , yet entirely comforting . kassandra was human , eivor guessed , yet she seemed to float above , through, and beyond such an existance . and perhaps that was why she had to leave ?
she had made it clear : after the festivities , she would go . just like she had sworn after they had met in skye . then after they had their fill of mead after their mysterious weapon had been unearthed . perhaps now it was less stubbornness that persuaded eivor to seek the woman out , than confidence . she had succeeded thrice before , why not try her luck again ?
❝ is the company of danes so unpleasant that you would leave without a farewell ? ❞ harsh words , but there was a grin playing across eivor’s lips . leaned against a thick wooden pillar , eivor watched kassandra through a grin lazy yet content .
❝ you never did tell me where you call home ? before i let you slink away into the night alone , would you sate my curiosity , and ease my concerns : do you have a place to wander to ? ❞
