Mistletoe Misery
Having gotten the basics of Christmas from a friend, Boco did a little more research at the local library to make sure he did it right. Many of the stories he read mentioned something called mistletoe. The pictures showed that It was a plant with sometimes white berries, sometimes red berries, and green leaves.
He was nothing if not dedicated to doing this thing right, so off he trotted in his warm cape to the florist who he sometimes delivered for and traded some paper-monies for a ball of mistletoe, tied with a big red ribbon.
After carrying if home, careful not to shake it too much and ruin it, he managed to tape the ribbon to the roof of his shelter. This had the result of it being at direct eye-level with the small bird.
Great! This gave him the chance to look at it properly in the light of his battery-powered lantern. He examined the deep green leaves and white berries the florists carefully arranged. It looked very pretty! Almost like spinach rolled up into a ball.
It looked tasty!
He couldn't help it. He was chewing the vaguely bitter plant before he realized what was happening. It was definitely not entire like anything else he'd eaten before, but the berries gave a satisfying crunch. He ate around the edges of it, then decided he'd finish the snack with a carrot. After getting one from his food chest he sat down with a big storybook to enjoy the rest of his evening.
