Hi emily, soooo i REALLY LOVE anarchy dreamers webcomic and everything about it, and i have this webcomic of my own that i've wnted to start for awhile but i have NO IDEA how to start and i didn't know if you had any advice, i would really appreciate it >/////< *hides*
Hello! And Thank you! <3 I’m so happy you’re enjoying it.
I want to start by saying that webcomics are really fun! Its a great medium and often the best medium for publishing stories that just won’t work for a traditional publisher. But they’re also a lot of work! Like way more than anyone thinks they’re going to be going in.
The best webcomic advice I can give is to make sure you have the time to draw and meet regular updates. Having a regular update schedule is really key. Right now I can just manage updating twice a week because I have a pretty intense day job, but even if you can only update once a week, or even every other week, if you always meet that update day, your readers will stick around. I’ve found that people are forgiving, and if there’s an issue that pops up and you can’t update, people will understand. But if you miss as many updates as you make, people will get stop checking.
So make sure you can set aside enough time to work on your pages each week. :3 If you can only put aside enough time to update once a week, then only update once a week
If this is your first webcomic I’d suggest posting on a webcomic website like smackjeeves. Before Anarchy Dreamers, I always posted on drunkduck, but I don’t know if it’ as active anymore. Either way, if you’re active in the community, you’ll gain webcomic friends, which are always good to have. There’s also lots of ways you can free advertise online; if you post on dA you can submit to groups, post on tumblr, twitter, do livestreams, etc. :3
Alsooooo some of the best advice I ever got, which is applicable in a lot of situations, is that the way you act will attract readers. If you’re nice and approachable, the majority of your fans will be nice. If you’re a jerk, you’ll attract jerks. So far that’s proven to be true!
I hope this is helpful! <3
