Felix's parents own a farm and bakery in a town that's different from Mistria, and were super stoked to have a kid so they could use them as an extra farm hand and for general labor. Both of them had been wishing for a boy, believing farming was a man's job, but when Felix was born a girl, they were highly disappointed. In their
disappointment, they sought ways to make Felix more manly, mainly by forcing her to essentially act like a boy for most of her childhood.
One day, the father overhears rumors and chatter in the town of a magic genie lamp buried deep within a cave in a nearby mountain (idk if the world has genies, but I took the liberty of saying yeh since they do have magic)
Long story short, after some months of searching and child neglect 💀, the parents actually do end up finding the genie lamp, and in their excitement, they end up immediately making a wish where they said "We wish for our whelp of a daughter to be changed to our strong and strapping lad with enough energy to take over the family business"
Then they also wished, "I wish our child would never be a burden to us." This led to a eureka moment, where they realized they might not need to work on a farm if they wished for immense wealth. So they subsequently wish for endless wealth, and with a snap of its fingers, the parents are then buried in a mound of gold as their wealth continuously piles on top of them, crushing them.
But, since the genie was clearly a monkey's paw kinda genie, their first two wishes backfired on them anyway because it didn't change Felix's gender at all, it just ended up giving her a whole lot of energy, enough to do all the labor on a farm on her own like they wanted, and a newfound sense of independence. So much so that she ends up leaving the farm shortly after the second wish was made, since her being a girl would count as a burden on the parents in the genie's eyes. Ofc the second wish becomes moot because the parents are somewhere buried in gold now, but Felix isn't even thinking about them anymore.
And then badabing, badaboom, she eventually ends up in Mistria after kinda living off the land and always looking for things to do
