ingyentism (n.) — mystery, enigma
your body washed up on the beach, unconcious, scarred, tangled in algae and… different than any other na’vi seen by metkayina clan. questions are left without any answer, when your eyes finally open, but not a single memory occurs in your mind. without a name, without any familiar face around you, you need to learn how to navigate your new life, connect with new poeple and discover where did you came from.

it was the name you’ve been called ever since your existance interrupted fairly peaceful days of metkayina clan.
at first it was ingyentsim, more as a way to describe you than to call you, when you were still unconcious.
your body washed up on the shore, tangled in algae and sickly thin. one of the hunters noticed it, coming back with nets full of fresh food. he pointed at your figure, laying on the sand, asking what that could be. his friend brushed it off, saying it’s a weird rock, but the hunter couldn’t brush off this weird feeling creeping up his spine when he watched it.
“can’t be a rock,” he huffed, sliding off his tsurak, as the water got more shallow.
at first he wasn’t in a hurry, it was plain curiousity leading him up to you, but as closer he got and as more obvious it was that the dark spot on golden sand was a na’vi, his strides got quicker.
he noticed your skin colour first, so much deeper than his own, which paired with bones that he saw through it, when he stood over you, made him think that you were long gone.
“bring olo’eyktan!” he yelled to his friend, kneeling down. noone disappeared from their clan into the water, to be found like this. how long would someone have to float to end up like this?
he reached out his hand to pull on your shoulder, but retreated it, before he could touch you, leaving you to rest peacefully. you had to suffed so much, he couldn’t bother you, even if he was sure that eywa already met your soul.
“what is that?” tonowari asked, not even hoping for response as soon as he saw just as confused face of one of his people.
he slowly kneeled by the upper part of your body on the sand and with gentle push he made you lay on the back. he watched your head fall to the side and lips part slightly by the sudden move.
and then, very quiet breath left your lungs.
it wasn’t noticable, but as tonowari scanned your body, curious of how your skin was comparable to midnight sky, he saw that move of your chest. at first he couldn’t believe his eyes, he leaned down to your lips with his ear and then he felt it.
it was a matter of seconds, before he picked you up to rush for help.
“i need tsahik now!” he yelled to his people slowly gathering around, as he pushed through them with limp body in his arms.
much more sudden moves than waves of the water you felt for so long made you open your eyes slightly catching glimpse of turquoise skin, before darkness came back.
“tonowari, what is it?” ronal asked. she was visibly taken aback by the sudden intrusion, her first instinct to push her daughter away from it. tsireya was in the middle of receiving teachings from her mother, which were known to be a time to not interrupt them.
“a body washed up on the beach,” tonowari said, rushing them with a nod of his head to make space on the woven floor to lay your body down. “she’s alive, but not for long, look at this ronal,” he sighed out, gesturing with his hand to the barely visible rise of your chest.
ronal leaned over your body with her face twisted in confusion. she never saw a na’vi with such colour of skin or markings so light with flowy shapes. her hand touched your forehead, covering sky blue swirl, begining on the tip of your left ear and making it’s way down your nose. tsahik closed her eyes, feeling very faint energy pulse from your core.
“tsireya, bring the koaktutral,” she ordered, sliding her hands down to your neck to feel more how the air passed through to your lungs.
she didn’t dare to touch any lower, where the open wounds were so visible, possibly from ocean creatures or anything else that was in there and caught you.
“tonowari, i’ve never seen anything like this,” she said, following with a finger the swirls of patterns on your face. she touched you, but her eyes were wary, like you could wake up and hurt her family in any minute. you were strange and she couldn’t help but not trust your presence.
“me neither,” he agreed. you were a na’vi, it wasn’t a question, long limbs, four fingers, kuru braided within your hair.
the colour of your skin could be overlooked, na’vi’s came in many shades of blue and teal, ronal herself saw a tsahik of forest clan in her dreams, which was vivid blue, the darkness of your shade was the least of concerns, but those patterns… every na’vi had them darker, more toned and hushed colour than the rest of them. they were irregular stripes, with rough edges, sometimes blending with the skin, but yours… they were flowy, swirling, obvious where they were ending and where begining. they were so light, as if they were placed on you instead of bioluminescent spots every na’vi had.
shade of your hair couldn’t be described, it could be white or grey, maybe bluish or lilac, it was hard to tell with all the algae stains and pieces of it tangled in.
“what clan is she from?” tsireya asked, putting balms she deemed as usable in this situation next to her mom along with the one she asked for.
“clean her wounds, tsireya,” her mother said, leaving the question unanswered, while she put an ointment under her nose, to make your breathing easier. „win si.”
the girl looked to her father, who also couldn’t provide her an answer, before rushing to bring wet cloth to your body.
“it was eywa’s will that brought her here, she’ll tell us when she wakes up,” he said instead.
“ingyentsim,” tsireya hummed, unhappy with lack of information. if her parents, the wisest ones in their clan didn’t know, it was truly only to eywa to say.
you felt gentle touch over your face, starting on the tip of your ear, leading up to the bridge of your nose, following your patterns. your eyelids were heavy, but it was the most peacefull you felt in what seemed like a lifetime. fighting with yourself, you slowly opened your eyes, hearing a gasp along with the move you made.
it took a while before you could see anything than stabbing brightness. at first you tried to raise your hand to cover yourself from the source of it, but something restrained it. your eyes started fluttering quicker, panic flashed through your brain.
“shh,” you heard above you and something finally casted a shadow over your face, letting you see something more than blinding sun. “don’t move, you’re going to hurt yourself,” the girl said, looking deeply into your eyes.
you wanted to move away, brush away that curious gaze that made you feel naked. it was like she was trying to see your soul.
“tsireya,” you heard another voice, coming from a man, which you didn’t notice earlier. he was standing few steps away, leaning on the woven wall of marui pod you found yourself in.
your breath quickened, you tugged your hands up again, harder this time, but you still couldn’t raise them.
“ftang,” the girl, tsireya, said, trying to put her hands on your own to calm you down, but she was pulled away by the man. “ao’nung!” she huffed, standing up to slap away his hand. “she’s scared!”
“you heard what mother said!” he said, trying to push out of the pod. “go find her,” he ordered, but she stood still, keeping her head up. “tsireya, go,” he repeated, not taking ‘no’ as an answer.
she stayed for a moment, giving him very unhappy look, disappointed even, before huffing and storming out.
you were still inside, your body slightly hurting, tied down, alone with a stranger that looked at you as if you were dangerous. he watched you carefully, trying to not linger on your face for too long.
the time spent in silence was like a torture, but somehow when he opened his mouth it was even worse.
“what’s your name?” he asked, keeping his eyes somewhere on your stomach, trailing the swirls of your light patterns. it was the first thing he heard, when the clan carried the news of some stranger on his grounds, that you looked differently.
you looked better than the first time he saw you few days ago, cleaner, there were less wounds on you, but still, possible days of drifting in the ocean left their mark that would be visible for much longer.
“what is your name?” he asked again, taking a step closer. ao’nung brushed off the voice in his head that told him he was a hypocrite, after yelling at tsireya for getting close to you. their mother was the one who asked for you to be tied down and since she was tsahik, noone doubted her gut feeling that you could be trouble.
you parted your lips slightly, thinking that some kind of muscle memory would carry your name out, but nothing came from it.
he took one more step, thinking that maybe his ears just didn’t catch what you said.
your heart sank. you tried to let out any sound, but the emptiness in your mind, only made you choke on breath.
