Hey! I read your entry about ASL and it really tugged on some heartstrings. I am not deaf but encountered this hearing impaired man who was so inspirational that I couldn't help but try and learn ASL. The site I posted below has free online material if you are serious about learning. http://www.start-american-sign-language.com/learn-sign-language-asl.html BTW, my other ASL is 18 f NY haha
Above is probably the best response I received from my last post on American Sign Language. My entry seemed to spark a lot of interest, from those who share the same intrigue toward the language, and from those who are part of the deaf community, and were in fact offended by some of what I said. Those such offended I have messaged with a further explanation of my intrigue, and apologized for any assumptions I had made. In retrospect, my post was very vague and ignorant, but I suppose that is what comes of posting so late at night.
In conclusion, I would just like to highlight the purpose of my blog. A couple months back I decided I wanted a place to keep my thoughts private from my friends' eyes, and I thought an unpublicized tumblr account would be an interesting social experiment. As my posts have changed, so have the kind of followers that track me, all of which have their own interesting stories to tell (18 F NY my most recent follower). But one thing that has stayed the same is my lack of desire to offend people (even if I do, I am not doing it publicly so there is little harm), and if I do I will most likely apologize, as I have had a change of heart and decided that not everyone who is offended is a wuss.
