started a discussion in the discord server, throwing it out here too:
i've been thinking abut the lore of Mitch's World for a while, because we've got a plot hole in there, and there's a bunch of stuff that hasn't been solidly defined yet that maybe we should
what does the world actually look like?
we've seen that it's very familiar with our world, but is this a case of an alternate history world where things like countries at minimum, and continent shapes at most, are different?
or should we keep it more grounded to the world we know, with just the fantastical layer on top?
some countries have already been mentioned of course and modern media like music, games and movies have been dropped too
there are a few complications though which mostly came about from the stories that had their own lore before the decision to combine them all into one world;
The story of Renaru and the guardian spirits are mostly inspired by Japanese mythology and the sengoku jidai period, but through combining with European tales of Reynard the Fox. The location isn't explicit - although it is definitely far from the main city
The city where a lot of the stories take place ie Cafe Regale isn't named, but it's a few hours drive from somewhere mountainous, and where Cedar Lake is. The geology is inspired by the Pacific Northwest
Jackson is outright said to be American, his accent is because all demons have English accents - the most evil accent there is
It doesn't make sense for Most other characters to be in America sounding the way they do, but also most collabs are going to be with VAs with non-English accents
Mitch is clearly not in America because he has a European Dreamcast
i'm wondering if there's a cohesive way of managing the setting better because even if it doesn't show up in the audios directly, it'd help to plan things out a bit more concretely knowing where everything is. at the very least I'd love to name the city, but with the conflicts in place it's best rn to be vague. that's just less interesting IMO
I'm open to retconning things, we haven't done that really before but it's an option. I guess the main thought it, where are we? and how grounded with the shape of the real world do we think it is?
Anyway theorycrafting very very welcome!!
