Just uploaded a performance of the composition "Ozymandias" at National Sawdust in Brooklyn, NY on May 16 2023. The performance was part of an evening of Mivos Quartet playing string quartet compositions by JG Thirlwell, to celebrate the release of the album 'Dystonia'. 'Dystonia' was released by Cantaloupe Music and comprises string quartet compositions composed by JG Thirlwell and performed by Mivos Quartet.

Mivos Quartet were Olivia DePrato on violin, Maya Bennardo on violin, Victor Lowrie Tafoya on viola and Tyler J Borden on cello.

The long awaited string quartet album by JG Thirlwell, 'Dystonia', is released today 05.19.23 on Cantaloupe Music. The compositions on the album are performed by Mivos Quartet.

Deeply challenging, even confrontational, to the classical string quartet format, 'Dystonia' is a leap forward not only for listeners, but for musicians as well. Mivos Quartet's fiery interpretation of these five pieces — each in its own way difficult, harrowing, engaging and uplifting — is also a tribute to their dedication, skill and sense of adventure as artists.

From the sleevenotes by composer Michael Gordon : "(the compositions) represent Thirlwell’s dark and jagged vision of past, present and future. Although Dystonia refers to a medical condition that causes involuntary contractions of the muscles, I can’t help making associations — Dys-Ton(e)-ia, Dissonance, Dysrhythmia, Destiny. All five works here project different shades of a bodily, psychological, and societal Dysfunction through a bold, insistent music that grabs you and takes you where it wants to go."

JG Thirlwell‘s Dystonia album which will be released by Cantaloupe Music on May 19, 2023, on CD and digitally. You can order the album on Bandcamp here.

‘Dystonia’ is an album of JG Thirlwell’s string quartet compositions performed by Mivos Quartet. Recording took place at Shiny Things Studio in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn with Mike Tierney recording and engineering.The sleeve notes were written by composer Michael Gordon.

There will be an concert of Mivos Quartet performing the album to celebrate the album’s release at National Sawdust in Brooklyn NY on May 16 2023. You can buy tickets to the concert here

I went back in the studio with Mike Tierney for a final round of clean-ups on the JG Thirlwell string quartet album ‘Dystonia’. Music performed by Mivos Quartet. It sounds amazing. The album will be released on May 19 2023 on Cantaloupe Music, and there will be an album release show May 16 2023 at National Sawdust in NYC. Don’t miss it!
