She applied for a position in the New York Public Library system (NYPL) & a few days later, she was called to return to “discuss her answers”. They asked her race & she simply said “American”, she was told “You’re not an American. You’re not #White.” She became a key member of the #HarlemRenaissance. She was the first #AfricanAmerican supervising librarian in NYPL history. André 3000 (born May 27, 1975) is an #American rapper, singer/songwriter, actor, producer, dancer & philanthropist. He is known for being a part of southern hip hop duo @outkast. Billboard & Showbiz Cheatsheet listed him as one of the top 10 rappers of all time. “I only own one piece of jewelry & that’s a Native American beaded necklace that I wear all the time. I bought it years ago because my family is part Native American & part African.” Aaliyah Dana Haughton (1979-2001) was an #American singer, actress, dancer & model. Shes credited for helping to redefine contemporary R&B, pop & hip hop, earning her the nicknames the "Princess of R&B" & "Queen of Urban Pop.” She was African-American & Native American. Her grandmother had #Oneida heritage. She was killed in a plane crash at only 23. RIP. Derya Arbaş (1968-2003) was a #TurkishAmerican actress. Her mother was #Turkish beauty queen/actress Zerrin Arbaş & her father Dehl Berti, was an actor & #ChiricahuaApache. Her grandfather was a renowned artist of #Circassian descent.
