okay my dudes
so I know the entire fandom and their mom have been discussing the state of Chat Noir’s suit versus Ladybug’s suit. The revelation that the superhero outfits reveal their innermost desires is absolutely cause for great amusement. Especially considering the state of Marinette’s - Ladybug’s - suit. She’s a fashion designer. It should have been cooler. I agree.
However, I think there’s something to be said for circumstances. Adrien was overjoyed to become Chat Noir. He didn’t even let Plagg finish explaining the whole superhero deal before transforming the first time. To him, Chat Noir is all the freedom and danger from which his father shelters him, and, let’s be frank, it allows Adrien to be some of that cool, flirty, outgoing, would-be bad boy that we all know this lovable, kind-hearted dork desperately wants to be.
Marinette though. Marinette did not jump the gun on the superhero gig. Marinette’s first reaction was that she wasn’t right for the job. She transformed more or less by accident, and kind of ran with it from there.
So yeah. Circumstance. Whatever Marinette’s deepest superhero fashion dream might have been, I feel that the suit might reflect, in a sense, two things: first, her initial trepidation. She wasn’t sure and didn’t feel read, and her suit might reflect that. Second, the fact that Marinette is an inherently rational person. She’s clumsy and awkwardly sweet at times, but she is also clear-headed and straightforward. We see this rationality most clearly when she is Ladybug. It’s such a stark contrast to the recklessness of Chat Noir, and part of what makes them such a killer team.
Marinette’s initial transformation was riddled with doubt, but also with the aloof rationality and intellect of Ladybug.
