I love my Kindle but there is nothing quite like the romance of paper for a booklover. I read an Isabel Dalhousie novel a decade ago but then I was more charmed by McCall-Smith's more earthy Botswana heroine Mma.Ramotswe. His languid style seemed more entertaining in an African summer than a soporific Scotland. But perhaps I just needed some time. And maybe I need an attitude readjustment to rain.
