Dark Web cover illustration
Newest cover for Christopher Brewer's ongoing novel series following protagonist Alice in her dark detective adventures. This is the fifth cover I have done for the series, and all of them are on "my favourite illustrations" list, something a project rarely holds for long, and the first that doesn't have Alice in red. This time the title indicates Alice going up against a hacker collective and we considered a lot of computer imagery, even using AI, when the term "firesale" rose to the top and with it, images of fire. Eventually the final idea became Alice defying death itself by standing up (or lying down but still holding her own - umm, I think I lost the visual here) against Charon as the Grim Reaper.
Two books in one day??? Feeling both uninspired and bursting with creative juices which is an odd and confusing state. But I'm loving spending so much time in stories 📚 . . #saturdaymood #booksandcats #booksandplants #catsandbooks #catsandplants #plantsandcats #plantsandbooks #micans #philodendronmicans #henryjames #agathachristie #detectivestory #murdermystery #daisymiller #readingchallenge #readingbooks #readinglist #readingcommunity #bookishlife #bookshelves #bookcovers #blackcatsrule #blackcatsclub #luna #rescuecatsrock #finishedreading #bookwormlife #positivevibesonly💯 (at Norwich, Norfolk) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPdTfctHnIj/?utm_medium=tumblr
Inks are coming together for page fifteen of 'Chronicles of the Occult'. These next two pages are my favorites since the first. I love drawing the emotiveness of the family, along with all the subtle (and some not so subtle) aesthetic /thematic bookends I've been able to include. Extremely grateful to @neverbynight for all the freedoms they've given me through the process. 🌒🌕🌘 #weirdfiction #weirdtales #haunted #ghoststory #detective #detectivestory #mystery #neonoir #pulpfiction #horror #horrorfamily #drawing #drawingcomics #lovecraft #noir #cthulhumythos #art #artwork #Illustration #inkart #inkartist #darkartists #darkart #goth #Gothic #gothichorror #mythos #horrorart #gothgirl #gothicart https://www.instagram.com/p/B1yNmWxBTcR/?igshid=1cu52q6fp2zcz

I opened my eyes and saw nothing but white. Colours started slowly fading into place, an I was left with a sight completely unfamiliar. A small building with stone walls and a thatched roof stood in front of me. The grass was a dark green and trees stood surrounding me, gently rustling in the wind. It was a chilly autumn afternoon, and yet I couldn’t feel the cold at all I looked down at my hands and couldn’t see anything other than the grass staring back at me. I was confused; why couldn't I see my hands and legs?
I began to wander around. I walked, or rather glided forwards and saw rows of tombstones buried in little beds of gravel. I was in a graveyard, and I could guess that the building around me must be some sort of church. I continued to ‘walk’ around the church and saw a small crowd of people in the distance. They looked as though they were all gathering around something, but I couldn't see it. As I got closer, I noticed that all of the people were wearing black. It was likely to be a funeral, but who could it be for? I still couldn’t see what everybody had gathered around and began searching for a gap in between people to try and get a closer look. However, they were huddled so close together, the task was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Losing my patience I shoved a lady out of my way with as much force as I could muster, but she didn't move. She didn’t even flinch. She simply looked as though a sharp gust of wind had blown against her face. I sighed and gave up, trying desperately to think up a way to get past the crowd.
I didn’t have to wait for long. Hovering, (quite literally) nearby, I saw the group move away and I took the chance to see what they were crowding around. As I had guessed, it was a funeral, and the mysterious item was an open casket. A wave of memories flooded my mind with every emotion known to man. This was the church that my parents got married at. The lady who I had shoved out my way in a fit of anger, was, in fact, my own mother! I remembered a knife being held up to my neck and a haunting melody being played on a piano. This was a funeral, and my body was lying in the casket.I looked back at the coffin, ran around to the back of it and read the lid. In gold letters, the word ‘ELLIOT’ was engraved. The girl in the coffin was me. I had been murdered and had died. I was a ghost.
and here is the finished bookcover! ☺️ I hope you like it. The client was so nice to allow me to post the cover already. It is a pleasure to work on this project. I will post some close ups later. #bookcover #mounteens #digitalart #digitalpainting #teensbook #adventure #detectivestory #detectives #artoninstagram #marcelnaas #teensbookseries #illustration
