Me Made May 2013 - The story concludes
Sorry about this late post, how is it that we're nearly half way through June already? Anyway, just thought I'd wrap this up so the series would be complete and to express my thanks to Zoe for organising this. It's been lots of fun. I even got my work colleagues in on the action taking my photo every day (the perks of being the only girl in the office, the boys do my bidding, mwahaha).
I can't believe how many comments I got on my outfits! You guys are so kind. This being my first year I didn't even know that commenting on the photos was a thing. I discovered a bunch of new blogs and got comments from bloggers that I have been stalking following for months (squee). I was giggling like a schoolgirl the first time Merche and Carolyn commented on one of my outfits. Also got lots of ideas for future sewing, this was like an intense period of checking out pattern reviews.
So here's days 21 through 27:
Day 21 - Vogue 1247 made from a rayon challis
Day 22 - Hot Patterns Weekender Summer in the City Tunic made from hand dyed rayon batik. Paired with Mccalls 6404 leggings.
Day 23 - Simplicity 1796 made from another length of hand dyed rayon batik with a band of rayon satin on the bottom because the pattern as drafted was way too short!
Day 24 - Today's theme was "Your Hometown" so I did a little collage of pictures near Austin's quirky grafitti and skyline. Not sure why someone painted peewee on the side of a building but it made for a great picture:)The dress is rtw but I knitted the top ages ago. Love the yarn (a bamboo silk) but I didn't really know too much about sizing at the time so it's a little big. Looks OK belted though so that's how it gets worn.
Day 25 - Self-drafted knit skirt and Tiny Pocket Tank made from black rayon challis. The button-down is rtw.
Day 26 - Hubby took me out for cupcakes! I got the double chocolate - yumm! The pattern is from Patrones 284. It's made from chambray with some cotton lace inserted near the hem and sleeve edge.
Day 27 - I think this is a Burda Style pattern from around 2005. Easy day barbequeing at Susan's house.
And Days 28 through 31
Day 28 - This pattern is from Burda magazine 04-2010 made from a silk-cotton satin.
Day 29 - We've got knitting and sewing today. The tank top is knitted from a great Rowan yarn - linen, silk, viscose blend. The jacket is from a Burad paper pattern. I wish i could remember the number but I think I gave this pattern away. I'm now on an epic image search for it online to see if I can find it to make again.
Day 30 - Simplicity 4698 (OOP) made from a silk tweed and lined with china silk. Never did put a closure on this jacket but I've never really missed it:)
Day 31 - I love this dress and need to wear it more often. The fit is not perfect - I was modifying the straps so much that the darts ended up being in the wrong place but I still feel really pretty in it. It's a Colette Hazel with modified skirt and straps made from this great African wax fabric. I took a lot of time mirroring the motifs which was a little difficult as it's handprinted so the motifs don't line up perfectly. Used some yellow piping to break up the print a little.
Conclusions: Damn, I've got a lot of clothes! I didn't pledge to do no repeats but managed it anyway. About half way through I kind of amended the pledge in my head when I realised that I hadn't repeated yet. So if I have enough me-made clothes to last a whole month then I really can get rid of some of the stuff in my closet that I don't wear very much. I think I've always kept some of those clothes because I think that I'll have nothing left to wear. It's weird the things that go through our heads. A clean out is definitely called for. That should help me further identify the gaps in my wardrobe and enable me to come up with a sewing plan. I've always just sewn whatever I felt like at the time but I've sort of ended up with a closet full of orphans. But then again, that's how I shop too. Maybe time to change that, hmm.
