J Spades - More Money More Pagans II [Mixtape]

Hackney's own, J Spades, has been causing quite the stir in an industry full of bullshit music from fake artists. Not since Giggs has there been a street rapper with such a large (and growing) organic buzz. From early offerings, Spades was spitting realness with distinct flow over some of our favourite instrumentals, comparisons to Rick Ross began to surface for the simple factor that the music was providing the same vibe, and so long as the consistency continued, it was only going to get better. Early cosigns from the likes of Scorcher and already established artists helped solidify the raw rapper with his own wave, soon, the entire country was feeling/supporting the More Money, More Pagans movement, to the point that this sequel to the previous smash was one of the most anticipated projects to come out of this country.
MMMP2 is 19 tracks of heat, kicking off with Burn, serving as an intro, it sets to initial mood of the tape, before a fan-favourite, Sidemans, controls the vibe with it's sample-heavy, laid back feel, whilst Spades flows about the fake ones. Perfectly contrasted is the next track, the popular Rap Game. This tape is a good measure of versatility, as we get the DVS featuring Live Life, to which you just have to kick back, light one and vibe. Whilst most "gangster" rappers have started rapping about love and "the one" over dance beats, with Bad Bitch (ft. Capone) we get the complete opposite, a more raunchy cut, but it's one of my favourites off the tape. Straight back into the trap mode, Big Up My Connect is exactly what it should be, the street anthem has done it's rounds online and it fits well in this tracklist. Things get a bit experimental with the Sway & Cashtastic featuring #TGIF, I hope radio (that can) supports this one as it is definitely fit for that purpose. Over Here adds some depth to the mix, setting you up for the more amped Feeling It, which is balanced by Wavey, with the Youngs Teflon assist, adding one of his nicest verses of late. If you're a J Spades fan, you will love the tape, possessing exactly what you want, with a touch of difference. Tracks such as Informer will no doubt resonate with his already large fanbase, however, you then have the quality Hot Gyal (featuring the young talent, Abel Miller), a different aspect to the subject of Bad Bitch, it caters to the female audience, and will most definitely be appreciated. In comparison to previous records, this is another that radio has no reason not to support, if I was a label A&R, I would give this the green-light as the first single to establish the brand. Straight after that, the street anthem would be the next record, 300 featuring none other than Waka Flocka, it is exactly what you expect it to be, straight gassss music. As I listen to the project, it only hypes me up for the album, tracks like (the Bayoz music produced) Screaming is Spades flowing raw, making it look so easy. MMMP2 is a highlight of the ascend, as features such as Tinchy Stryder (I'll Be Up) and Chip on Lock Da City, have J holding his own, sounding far less like a newcomer and more like a seasoned veteran on the mic. As the tape comes to it's end, you have the Margs featured, Pagans, and another favourite, Trapping Look Bad with the underrated Blade Brown, both rapping real over a synth-heavy production (courtesy of The Beat Boss), last but not least, Dope Boy, Spades tackling Curren$y & Wiz Khalifa's Jet Life To The Next Life beat, making it sound like his own. It just makes you wonder, the quality that could emerge next.
With mixtapes, it is often easy to expect too much, with More Money More Pagans 2, J Spades has managed to give you enough to enjoy and held back just that much that you want to hear more. Definitely one to satisfy fans from the previous, whilst creating new adoration as he continues with his unique style and sound.
