The comics were so mean to him they really said watch him be cringe and fail with the girl he likes in TWO DIFFERENT ANGLES!!
I was thinking, do you think in Shattered Grid, at some point, Tommy was supposed to stay dead and the executives forced Kyle to bring him back, because the whole ' Slayer shot chaos shard at him' feels too last-minute and does not make that much sense?
I LOVE Shattered Grid though.
(Part of me will forever be spiteful we did not get Lauren/Jase because of made up age stuff, but that was not an issue in way more obvious age gap of Tanya/Mike???)
No - I know Kyle had said execs were nervous about Tommy dying and he had to promise that he'd come back, but I don't think Tommy dying for good was ever in the cards regardless. The entire finale of Shattered Grid wouldn't have worked without Tommy's return. (I guess you could have made him a ghost or whatever to keep him "dead" but....what's the difference at that point? Especially when reality was going to be reset back to Tommy alive anyway.)
As much as I love Kyle's work and consider his run the best of the 2016 series the whole situation with the Chaos Crystal was always "this does whatever we want so just go with it." Billy literally brings up in the event that the crystal makes no sense and we never got any further elaboration.
So Slayer saving his life with it was definitely weird but also par for the course with the Crystal's use up to that point. And in fairness it's not like we haven't gotten other nonsense revivals in the show itself. So you just kind of have to smile and nod.
And yeah, I've always thought it was weird that any Jason/Lauren ship tease had to be shut down because suddenly Lauren was meant to be 25 just for Beyond the Grid to have Tanya and Mike be far more blatantly romantic - complete with kiss! - right after. I guess if the og MMPRs were 17 in Shattered Grid like Battle for the Grid states, the comic!Zeo Rangers would be over 18, but still, there is no way in hell anyone would think MIKE is younger than Lauren
