If only we knew the point of what Billy did at the end of Darkest Hour, since we won't get to continue the 2016 storyline.
The craziest thing about Billy shattering the Grid is that this clearly wasn't a last minute "hey, change your ending because we want to connect this with your Prime Universe pitch" situation - Billy shattering the Grid starts being foreshadowed almost immediately after the event begins. So like....we had the time and space to figure out a way to tie this into an ending that featured the MMPRs, even if just a few panels showing what everyone's doing in this new future rather than just Billy and his Potential Morpher. Especially when the blueprint for it was RIGHT THERE in Shattered Grid's finale, which managed to pull off closure for Kyle's run, Grid-shattering reset nonsense, and a showcase of the strength of the MMPRs' bond while being primarily a Drakkon/Tommy focus.
But whatever even if the rest of the finale was terrible at least it gave us five of the greatest panels of all time and because of that no one can tell me 2016 Tomberly didn't get married and have their own Olivia
I absolutely meant Tigan. Stupid autocorrect. I know it’s technically not fridging but man it feels so bad that it might as well be. Also, aside from Drakkon did ANY male characters get killed off in Darkest Hour?
Tigan's death wasn't fridging in the sense of it being the motivation for a male character (though the fact that it's revealed in a panel where she's surrounded by grieving men definitely aids that perception)
but it has shades of it in how completely unnecessary it is, and how obvious it was that she was considered expendable because she was the least developed and the only non-corrupted Solar to not be in a romance. She could have survived and nothing would have changed.
As for the second point, here are Darkest Hour's deaths:
= Grace (killed by corrupted M-tt, then later wiped from existence by Billy messing with the Power Egg) = Xi (absorbed by Alpha-1, later dies for good by Dark Specter) = Drakkon (killed by corrupted Ranger Slayer) = Blue Emissary (killed by Ranger Slayer) = Pink Emissary (killed by Ranger Slayer) = Alpha-1 (killed by Dark Specter) = Kiya (wiped from existence by Billy messing with the Power Egg) = Coinless Trini (wiped from existence by Billy messing with the Power Egg) = Tigan (killed in the final battle) = Vessel (purged by the Z-Wave) = Dark Specter (purged by the Z-Wave) (There's also some debate if Death Ranger was killed by Dark Specter or not; it's ultimately ambiguous.)
Of that list, five are women, four are men, and two are non-binary - which seems somewhat equal, but then you realize that the dying women were all protagonists and how many more protagonist male OCs of similar relevancy survived (Terona, M-tt, Arkon, Green Emissary, Black Emissary, Coinless Bulk, Yale, Kevor, Salum, Maxie)
