Track 25, about a third of the way through the series. This one has distorted 808 samples, the Matrix 1000, and was sequenced on the MMT8. Done as a one-take, recorded to DAT. There is another take of this one, but it isn't as succinct.
There is a digitech distortion pedal that I used on all of these tracks for the distortion, and it looks like this:
It has some really cool sweepable mid range eq on it, and some interesting doubling effects on it. It also has an A/B mode so you can set it up to have 2 different sounds, hence the 'programmable' name. Made in the mid 80's it seems this little guy is a bit of a collectors piece, or at least that is what I hear.
What really captivates me about this Chonga track is how it gets in and out and doesn't mess around. It has an 'a ha' moment in it towards the end where everything comes together nicely. which is why I am drawn to this tune so much. If I were to create a 'best of transelectronic theory' this tune would be on it.
No necessarily techno, but obviously heavily influenced by it. I can say that I didn't really 'get' techno (and when I mean get I mean dedicate myself to actually trying to making it) until I moved to Brooklyn, which was in 1998, the year following this track.
