District 9 (2009)
What if MalĂ© could breathe again? What if its narrow streets could once more belong to people â not cars? This exercise dares to imagine a rebalanced city, where clutter is replaced by clarity, and the islandâs lungs are reopened through thoughtful redistribution.
Building on prior research and reflections, students are invited to speculate on a regenerative masterplan that reconnects MalĂ©âs fragmented parts. By merging careful preservation of its organically evolved fabric with a visionary redevelopment of adjacent underused lands, the task challenges teams to propose a future where density, livability, and heritage coexist.
The goal is not to erase the past, but to weave it meaningfully into tomorrow â one that celebrates community, walkability, and a renewed sense of belonging within the city.
EXERCISE 1C: MASTERPLAN
Group members: @anoofii @dhi-va @leena1010 @maaisa @upperfact @fragmentsofasemester
In this stage, we're tasked with proposing a regenerative urban masterplan for a 10-12 hectare area in Male', Maldives, building on prior site analyses and theoretical insights to create a replicable model for revitalizing similar urban zones. We'll divide the site into roughly one-third (4 hectares) of dormant industrial or single-use land, transforming it into a vibrant mixed residential development complete with amenities, commercial spaces, green breathing areas, and efficient movement networks, while the remaining two-thirds (8 hectares) focuses on minimally intervening in the densely packed, organically evolved urban fabricâclearing clutter, redistributing population density, and strategically injecting essential land uses and amenities to rejuvenate it without erasing its unique character.
Site selection options
For our project, we are exploring the Maafannu area of Maleâ to identify a suitable site, characterized by its reclaimed land, which lends a distinct urban identity compared to the historic core of Maleâ. The presence of Maleâs largest ports in this area has profoundly influenced its development, shaping both the urban fabric and the lives of its residents.
Option 1
For our project, we are examining Option 1, which encompasses the main MPL port within the Maafannu area of Maleâ. The densely populated urban area 1 is predominantly residential, yet the ground floor activities are heavily influenced by the port, with many spaces occupied by large-scale godowns or warehouses. Single use area A in this region includes Rasfannu Beach, the Social Center, institutional facilities, and several schools. However, the industrial activities in the area have led to significant challenges in walkability, as godown operations frequently encroach on road spaces and pavements, disrupting public life and contributing to noise and air pollution.
The Maleâ City Council is currently discussing plans to relocate the main MPL port to Thilafushi, with proposals to introduce a marina in part of the vacated area.
Option 2
Option 2 encompasses the T-Jetty area within the Maafannu region of Maleâ. Urban dense area 2, similar to dense area 1, exhibits significant industrial activity, with both areas situated between the main MPL port and T-Jetty, primarily serving cargo services for the import and export of goods. As a result, the ground floors in these areas are predominantly occupied by godowns and commercial spaces. The single area B comprises substantial land used for industrial and institutional purposes, with large stretches dedicated to these functions. Additionally, future plans to develop a sports area adjacent to this region are already under discussion.
Chosen Site
Option 2, encompassing the T-Jetty area in Maafannu, was selected for our regenerative masterplan as it presents similar challenges to Option 1 but offers greater opportunities for intervention.
In Option 1, the proposed design project would encroach upon valuable open spaces, including Rasfannu Beach and the Social Center, which is less feasible given Maafannuâs limited open areas.
Conversely, Option 2 includes a large area currently occupied by industrial and institutional buildings that can be relocated, providing a more suitable canvas for redevelopment. Additionally, we propose transforming T-Jetty into a new marina, positioning our project as a bay area development.
The planned sports zone development nearby and the under-construction Thilamale Bridge, which will connect to this area, further enhance its potential as a new gateway to Maleâ.

I wanna ruin our internship, we should be partners instead [Matt Murdock x F!Reader]
Summary: Being an intern at a small law office had lots of good sides, such as learning from a practical point of view while gaining student credit, but also carried some bad ones, like having mental breakdowns since graduation was coming and you had no idea of what to do with your life after spending some time with the best law office out there. On a brighter note, however, Matt Murdock, senior lawyer and very hot boss, is always there to cheer you up.
Word count: 2,4k
Warnings: overwhelming fear of future, age gap (but reader is in her late twenties at least), conversations about family pressure (minor), Daredevil season 1 spoilers.
Content: fluffiness, stolen kisses and casual body touching (sfw), conversations about the future, minor mention to Jennifer Walters.

this fanfiction used to be called "Office Work", however I decided to change it last minute. This story talks about graduation and fear of the future so beware! and many thanks, once again, to my beta reader, @areiko â€
gif is mine
Standing on your tiptoes, you reached out your arms just as much as possible, thriving to get a somewhat thick book on cases similar to the one the office was handling, one copy that seemed unreachable. Your fingers stretched beyond its limit, as well as your shoulder, aching a little from the effort just to touch the wood of the shelf.
âCrap, I just need toâŠâ
Jumping would be of no avail. You were mentally cursing Foggy, or Karen, or whoever had put the books on that damn tall shelf. Soon enough, you felt a hand on your back. A soothing touch above your low back, calm fingers pressing the fancy fabric of the blouse, causing goosebumps on your skin in the form of a shiver lifting all the way to the back of your neck.
âWhat book do you desire?â
On rewatch, I can't help but think that the radio show Karen goes on and gets targeted by the bomber in The Punisher was originally planned to be Trish Talk and have Trish make a quick cameo, but maybe scheduling forced them to change it to a random radio host instead.
I think it seems plausible since that seems like something Trish would've wanted to talk about on her show, and she and Karen had previously met on the Defenders, so there's a pre-established link between them.
What could've been...
