◦ weeping reaper
blood on her hands make for sharks in the water.
the sharks that circle her now are the product of her own anxieties, the vicious teeth that threaten to swallow her whole a real threat when faced with the damage that she’s done. kim jinhee feels both alone and not alone at the same time, a repercussion of the past twenty four hours that she can’t take back. in a single moment, she regrets and in the next, she’s angry. there is no in between with the fluctuation of her moods, and the swelling and quelling tides do not help to stay the beasts from snatching her feet out from under her.
her hands are still stained red with the blood of her father and she can’t bear to wash herself clean. instead, she hides in places that no one would think to look and focuses instead on the sharks that keep nudging her buoy, threatening to tip her off balance. there’s no one to help her in the moment; if she asked, no one would come ( it’s all a product of her imagination, but jei feels utterly alone, instead. )
and so she finds herself in the woods, a supposed place of calm. it’s a forgotten place where she can go to relax because only jei knows about the spot where she met sunchun back when she was four and still naive. still, it does nothing to calm her, and still, she’s swaying in the sea with sharks that are her anxieties.
all she does is stare at her hands. jei can only blame herself, because she should have seen this coming even though she was only seventeen and quiet, seventeen and a child. her hands begin to shake and only when she hears the snap of a branch does jei’s head snap up from her skin, eyes wide like a deer in the headlights. “ who’s there?” she tries to sound demanding, but her voice only comes out a tremble.
jei might be a reaper, but even the bringer of death can experience a fall.
