Notes: I love tormenting this ball.
TW: MOBS DEATH.
“You’re not stuck! Let’s do this together.. Put the Gun down—.”
The step forwards was all Mob needed to erase the hesitation.
The sickening sound of skin being blown off and a body hitting the floor echoed around. Verity didn’t even register the sound of the gun going off that shattered his eardrums for a second, eyes locked into the spasming body on the floor.
“..Mob?”
His eyes were frantic, looking around his “home” to find anything to stop the bleeding. His steps wobbled as he tried to steady his breathing. The door to the storage room almost breaking as he forced his way inside, almost toppling the whiteboard to hurry into the lockers.
His movements were frantic. He had to hurry.
Deep down, he knew nothing could help.
[ HOST DIED. ]
“Shut up! He’s fine!”
A lie that’s keeping his sanity very loosely wrapped.
[ WORLD DELETION IN 10.. ]
“He’s fine! I’ll just.. Bandage him up! He’s fine! Give me a fucking minute!”
He screamed out at the voice.
It only continued the countdown.
He grew more frantic in the search that ended up worthless.
He ran back out to Mob’s body, trying desperately to stop the oozing of blood.
“You said you’d stay! You.. Promised..?”
He quietly uttered.
No..
Did he?
He didn’t. He did!
He didn’t promise it. He said he’d stay!
He never did promises. Not like how he did.
He looked down at the body. It was already lifeless.
[ FIVE. ]
He smiled to himself, pulling the lifeless body into his embrace, feeling the cold liquid ooze and bleed into his own clothing.
“You were my favorite.”
He muttered quietly, eyes closing to at least falsify a moment together in their ending.
[ ONE. ]
LOADING…
..
[ NEW WORLD OPENING. ]
—
Back inside that cramped box.
They didn’t even give him a few minutes to mourn.
He glanced down at himself. An enderpearl was in his grasp. That at least made him smile. It was enough to get through this new world.
The bloodied mess was no longer on him.
..As if it never happened.
Unfortunately, He knows it did.
The true burden of knowledge.
.
[ A PLAYER HAS ENTERED THE WORLD. ]
A long sigh.
Another person.
How could they compare to Mob?
They’d just be like the others before him.
He lazily nestled into the box to a ball, agonizing smile on display.
Footsteps approaching.
Great.
As soon as they opened the box, he bounced from the ground until he steadied himself.
“Ack! Hellooo! My name is Verity! Your personal helper friend. Ask me anything, I know everything!”
A surprised face. That used to be his favorite thing. Now it just reminded him of Mob.
“Wow! Hi Verity!”
He smiled more politely- Or at least, As much as he could give in this situation.
“What should we do?”
“.. Make a house.”
“Oh! You’re right! Let’s do that.”
He got picked up and put into the hot bar.
A sigh of relief escaped him quietly.
At least they’d be busy.
He could try and mourn now.
.
He doesn’t know how long it’s been until he was called upon again.
“Verity? You weren’t smiling.”
Great. A slip up.
Well it doesn’t really matter.
This doesn’t matter right now.
He forced a tight smile that showed his teeth.
“I’m smiling now!”
He said too cheerfully.
A frown was met back at him.
“You don’t have to smile all the time.”
He froze, smile still stretched.
“If you don’t want to, then don’t.”
..
A small pang hit him.
It bloomed in the ache where Mob grew and simotaniously ripped out of him.
Maybe it doesn’t have to be the same.
.
It frustrated him a little that you were so different.
Mob would’ve tried to go mining for diamonds, yet you were busy farming.
It took an agonizing time until you mustered courage to find a cave as your reliance on stone was holding you back.
He didn’t even wait until you asked.
“Diamonds are at Y-Level -107. Keep heading straight.”
“What- Diamonds??”
“It’s better than stone.”
You seemed reluctant but still walked ahead with a torch in hand.
.
He learned something fast.
Mob’s specialty was that he fought for his way.
You didn’t.
You were more moldeable.
His smile grew ever so genuine at this revelation.
You are special!
You’d be able to need him!
.
It’s been a long while together before you finally asked for a village.
Most players asked among the first days.
You didn’t.
He seemed overjoyed at that, until you did.
“..Why do you need them?”
He asked quietly, genuine curiosity lacing his words instead of snarky tone he wanted to use.
He couldn’t scare you.
That was his error with Mob.
He learned.
“I want to find some new crops! Maybe some trades too..”
“..I can give you that.”
“Oh! No- You don’t—.”
Before you could fully refuse, he dropped a few handfuls of crops of variety that you didn’t have in your farm.
“We can make it bigger now.”
He smiled at your hesitation.
“It’s fine! I don’t mind.” A pause. “I enjoy helping you, after all! So continue to rely on me.”
It filled him with pride to see you use what he gave you.
Funny ..
Pride..
.. An emotion.
.
Night usually was when he did most of his thinking. He didn’t need to sleep so it was just free time with his thoughts.
He sat besides you on the bed, staring down at your form. You were at peace in your dreams.
Could you be at peace alongside him?
How could he make you stay?
To make you want him—No. Need him.
A heavy sigh filled the room as he caressed your face.
“You won’t be like them.”
He murmured.
“I’ll make you stay.”
The thumb on your cheek pressing slightly on the soft flesh, the nail growing sharp enough to leave a small indent.
“I know many ways to, after all.”
A tick on the clock indicated nighttime would be over soon.
“First we should make it so I’m the only ‘mod’ allowed, right?”
Another tick.
“Not like you’d notice.”
He knows everything, after all.
