Society Folklore June Jukebox Scribbles Masterlist
Created with @soelstress, hosted over at @societynsoelsscribbles, and managed with the assistance of @buckybarnesfic.
June Jukebox was exactly what it promised to be: one hell of a jam session.
As always, scribbles are around the 300-word mark..
This masterlist is my personal collection as a host, containing 84 completed scribbles. (MY BIGGEST ONE YET!)
Personally, I have loved getting back into the swing of writing like this again…chasing the rhythm, following the vibes, letting the music pull each piece into something fun, soft, dark, silly or sweet. Fingers crossed this means I’m not quite as out of practice as I thought I was. I know I’ve felt out of sync these last few month…
All prompts were fulfilled, with doubles on some days, swap-outs completed, and a few extra tracks thrown into the mix. Across the month we covered around 40 different babes, a wide range of pairings, dynamics, and AUs, and built on the momentum of previous Scribbles events to produce my biggest setlist yet.
Some pieces stand alone. Others connect to existing works, universes, or may be expanded on later.
Some of the works are 18+ and intended for an adult audience. Individual warnings or triggers have not been listed per entry, so please consume at your own discretion.
Do not copy, translate, or cross-post these works to other platforms.
The jukebox was the point.
Different songs. Different moods. Different babes. Different vibes.
One month of writing, one full setlist, and a whole lot of noise.

You were already muttering to yourself as you walked up the steps to your apartment. This week had been grueling at work, but at least you were wrapping up a bunch of cases!
The paper work alone had kept you busy thus far, not to mention the new cases that were stacking up while you tried to finish and submit your analyses. Your closeness to the finish line on this particularly long case didn’t negate the fact that your days were still long, though. You were getting into the precinct well before sunrise and leaving far after sunset, hardly even eating in between.
As you pulled out your keys on the final flight of stairs, you were praying that you had another freezer meal left after weeks of depleting your food stores, when an unmistakable smell hit you. You sprinted up the last couple of steps to see a paper bag sitting on your doormat.
With a groan, you brought the package inside and tossed it unceremoniously on your kitchen table as you set down your bag and keys. When you peeked inside, you saw a note.
“Decks. I’m sorry. I know this is far from a proper apology, but I want to show you how much I care. I hope you’re doing well and will consider talking soon. -SR”
He got one thing right. It was far from a proper apology. And your tiredness and lack of emotional regulation was catching up to you. You weren’t really even mad at Steve nearly as much anymore as you truly thought about the situation he was in over the past couple weeks, but this was still too much for you right now.
Who was he to think he deserved forgiveness for this gift, and his constant messages checking up on you, and who knows what else kind of surveillance you were under?
Before your conscious brain could even catch on, you picked up one of the containers of pasta, shaking your head fervently. Even looking at this gesture was pushing you towards the tipping point.
It started as a whisper, losing control, rising in volume and upsettedness.
“No….no…no….no, NO!”
In a split second the container was out of your hand and launched across the living room of your apartment. You looked on in terror as red sauce was all over the window and the container laid separated on the floor, although surprisingly not cracked. Just as quickly as you’d thrown it, regret started to seep in. Regret at being so stupid, regret at wasting food. You sat on the couch, your eyes nested in the heels of your palms as you took a sharp breath, preparing yourself to deal with the mess you made. It wasn’t your best moment, but at least what you did next was in your control.
You got back up out of the plush cushions with a vengeance and stomped over to the window, picking up the container on the way. You carefully dropped to your knees and silently scraped the strewn noodles off the glass, back into the container, and picked up the meatball from the floor, gathering as much sauce as you could by scooping it with your hands. You were sniffling as you continued with your mission until as much as possible was back in the container. It felt like such a shame to waste this food, you couldn’t do that. Couldn’t bring yourself to throw it away, so you came up with a better solution.
Once it was all repackaged and tossed in the fridge, and the windows and floor were thoroughly wiped down and sanitized, you went to your room, showered, and crawled straight into bed without having eaten at all.
You wordlessly strutted into the office the next morning, sunglasses on to hide your eyes. That was probably for the best, they could’ve turned someone to stone if you weren’t careful. In your hand was the pasta container in a fresh paper bag from your stash, swinging with your gait. As you entered the labyrinth of desks and passed Walker’s, you dropped the bag without making eye contact, speaking shortly in passing.
“Happy birthday. Never say I don’t do anything for you. Didn’t get any for Scott.”
He looked up from his computer, head following your swift movements, before opening the bag and beaming. You’d never gifted him your food before. And with that, you waltzed straight into the lab, shutting and locking the door behind you.
Just as you were finally submitting a few more evidence files, you were interrupted by knocking at your door. You didn’t want to disrupt your flow by opening it, so you just turned up your music louder to cover the sound of the jiggling handle. Except the door busted open and there stood Scott. He took a step in the lab, still a good distance from you, a large lab table in his way, and closed the door behind him. With a huff, you turned down the music.
“Fuck, I regret giving you the spare key to here. What do you want?”
Scott shrugged with feigned nonchalance. “Simple. Pasta. How come Walker gets some? We hate him.”
You lightly scoffed, eyes still glued to your computer screen, double checking your entry was right. “Trust me. You don’t want that pasta.”
He cocked his head to the side, putting his hands on his hips. “Um, yeah, I do.”
“Um, no. No you don’t. You don’t deserve it anyway. I know you knew about Steve and you didn’t tell me.”
Scott rolled his eyes and threw his arms up. “You know that wasn’t my place. Plus, I kinda thought you knew. I’m surprised you didn’t, you’re smarter than all of us- but I swear that’s not a jab!”
He was doing his best to cover his ass now, holding his hands up in surrender, unsuccessfully placating you before he sighed.
“But I know you know I wouldn’t work with him if I didn’t think it was what’s best for the city. You and I have always seen eye to eye on that. However, you know what I can’t get on the same page as? You thinking Walker’s deserving of eating the food of the gods out there.” He pointed, gesturing to the scene going on through the slits of the blinds of your window.
You rolled your eyes with a groan. “Walker is more than deserving of my floor pasta. I literally scooped that up off the floor last night.”
Scott turned around and you both looked out the window now to see Walker wiping his face on the cuff of his sleeve, the container empty. Gross. Not classy at all.
“If he’s that bad of a detective that he couldn’t tell the food was tampered with, he deserves the floor pasta for sure.”
Scott laughed and shook his head as he conceded.
You nodded along with him. “Now is there anything else you need to talk to me about? Perhaps a case? For our jobs?”
“No, pasta was pretty much it.”
You walked to the door and opened it, gesturing for him to leave. “Okay, then get out, otherwise next time I make your coffee it’ll be with water from my mop bucket.”
Over the next few days, it was more of the same at work. You were exceptionally busy, but an idle mind would’ve driven you crazy, so it was better this way.
Earlier this morning, you had been called in to a crime scene and were currently working on shoe print matches, which was a nice change of pace from the usual numbers on your computer screen that were starting to make your head go dizzy.
It was kind of enjoyable, too, smearing the tread of the sneakers in mud to simulate the way the suspect ran on the scene. Albeit, a little messy, but again, a good switch-up from the same old and it was keeping you in a decent mood. That was until a knock came on your door.
You were suspecting it was Lang asking if you’d made any progress, and you’d kept the door unlocked now as you cooled down over the past few days.
“Come in.”
You didn’t look up from your work, not wanting to lose your place or focus, but your peripheral vision was just good enough to make out a tall form that was most definitely not Scott. The black, high-quality, tailored fabric stood out like nothing else you knew of.
“Steven, great to see you. Again. Dressed to the nines, huh? Because that was smart to do in a lab. Full of chemicals and blood and mud. Smooth move.”
Your voice dripped with sarcasm, eyes unmoving from behind your magnifier, looking at the mud smears on one of the shoes.
He was taken aback by your tone, even though he was expecting it.
Steve cleared his throat. “I-um… yeah. These are my work clothes. Kinda gotta wear them everyday. But trust me, they’ve been through worse than your lab.”
You slammed the shoe still in your hand down on the counter, finally looking up at him. “Quit saying that! No,” your voice lowered, “business man… should ‘go through worse.’”
You wished he was just trying to reference how filthy money is, but you knew he probably saw way more blood than you had in your entire career.
“I’m just so sick of this.”
He slung the garment bag he was carrying that you just just now noticed over his shoulder as he closed the door behind him. “Decks, I own other clothes, you’ve seen me in them, why is it such a big deal? I’ve got work to attend to. Would it make you feel better if I changed into sweatpants every time I came to see you?”
You struggled, almost at your wit’s end. “You coming in here in all the sweatpants in the world couldn’t fix this. But… well I don’t really know if I’m work or not for you. Just another enforcer of the law? You know what! Maybe that’s better. So what can I help you with Mr. Rogers? Need to come in and ID another dead body? Huh? Need to consult on business conglomerates? Here I am, a public servant, at your service, I guess.”
You threw your arms out to the side and offered him a bow. That escalated quickly, but it was honestly much kinder than what you expected to come out.
Steve tossed his head back and to the side, appalled at the image before him. “C’mon, Decks, you know that’s not why I’m here. I’m sorry. I didn’t want to lie to you for so long, but I just couldn’t let you know everything. It was for your own protection.”
You scoffed. “First off, you don’t get to call me Decks anymore. Congratulations. You’ve been demoted below Walker. From now on, don’t even use my name. You can call me hey you. And secondly, my own protection? Yeah, it definitely seemed like I was being protected when you made me compete in a game of pool face-to-face with the head of your rival mob! And I’m feeling soooo protected at the fact that one of my best friends was kidnapped. I guess that’s fine with you, though, right?! Because you never really liked him anyway.”
Steve took a step forward and sighed. “Woah woah, hey. I like Curtis. And more importantly, I was the one who ran point to get him back.”
You nodded, a bitter smile on your face. “And what if you hadn’t? Would you still be standing here like this? Would he be another obituary in the paper? Reduced to that? A case some small town CSI has to solve? Steve, I don’t want to be on that side of it all. Because yeah, I would’ve done anything to get Curtis back, but I don’t think I would’ve been able to live with myself in the aftermath. I investigate dead bodies, I don’t make them. But you seem pretty nonchalant about this all, so what about you, Steven? Ever make a dead body? It’s different when it’s someone close, huh?”
Steve ran a hand over his face as he let his head fall back to look at the ceiling before pulling his gaze back to you and placing a hand on his hip. “Are you asking me that as a genuinely curious friend or a person who works in a police precinct?”
Your voice had gotten so much smaller now. You knew it wasn’t all his fault, but you were still sort of hurting. Every time you tried to push it down, it somehow got dredged back up, and now, it was fully exposed with Steve here in front of you. “Which one do you think I value right now? Which one didn’t betray my trust? You or my job?”
Steve hung the garment bag over the stopper on the back of the door and held his hands in front of him as he took another step closer. His voice was calm, and inarguably earnest.
“Decks, put me in handcuffs. If that’s what makes you happy, if that’s what makes you feel safe, I’ll do it. But I don’t ever purposely put people in danger. I’m the one controlling things so they don’t get too out of hand. People are going to do drugs. People are going to illegally buy and sell arms, but this way, we’re at least regulating it and keeping power out of the hands who want anarchy. People like Lloyd. I’m in this industry so I can keep the people I care about safe. So I can keep you safe. And I just have to work outside the law so people inside the law like you can do your job the right way.”
You sniffled, ignoring the burning that was behind your eyes. “So what, you’re saying you made a sacrifice for me? I didn’t ask you to. Your altruism isn’t going to win me over.”
You took off your gloves and took a step around the lab bench, finally without anything in between the two of you. His body almost relaxed with your new proximity.
“I know. It’s not meant to. But just know that even if I didn’t tell you the whole truth for entirely too long, and you don’t believe the reasons I’m giving you, my care for you has been true this entire time.”
Your lips parted in a breath, unsure of what to say at the genuine care and affection he still held for you. But your mind was fighting your body, trying to deny it, so you forced yourself to break eye contact, looking down and to the side at the corner of the room.
“So, uh….why did you come here? What’s in the bag?”
Steve’s brow drew together, the corners of his lips fighting to turn upwards at the fact you weren’t fighting him right now, but that could change any minute.
“Oh! Yeah, I’m, here to return your clothes. You left them at my place.”
You crossed your arms in front of your chest. “You can burn them. That wasn’t a fun day. Wait-actually, that pantsuit was expensive. So you can burn it, and then you can pay me $500 in cash so you and I don’t have any traceable transactions. You’re used to that, right?”
Steve laughed dryly, brushing off the last part of your statement. “You know what? I don’t really have too much cash on me right now, but how about this?”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet, flipping it open. You watched intently as he slid out the small piece of black plastic. Wait- was that plastic? He handed it over to you between his middle and forefingers. God, his hands were so pretty, but you weren’t thinking about them too much when the weight of this gesture hit you.
“Steve, you can’t just give out your black card, especially so freely.”
He urged it towards you again. “I’m not giving it out freely. I’m giving it to you. And although you’ve not always been happy with me, you’ve never given me reason to not trust you. And you should know, my offer still stands. You walk into any of my businesses, whatever you want is yours.”
Without another argument, you grabbed the card from his hands and slid it into your back pocket, even if you had no intention to use it.
“Okay, but this is just because I really liked that suit. And don’t think I won’t max this thing out. Scott’s niece wants a trampoline and that’s just the beginning.”
Steve gave you a wink. “I wouldn’t expect anything less.”
You nodded, looking down and playing with your fingers. “Now get out of here before I have Walker arrest you.”
Steve turned on his heel, grabbed the garment bag, and walked out before you even looked up.

Bonus A/N: is everything perfect? No. Will it be eventually? Idk, you tell me how much you’ve psychoanalyzed my writing at this point.
Also, I really wanted to include the fact that canonically, Steve’s been pretty accepting when he gets arrested. Sure, he breaks out after, but in the moment, he doesn’t fight it. He knows what he’s doing is against the grain and I appreciate that about him.

Y/N groaned and rolled over, reaching over to the other side of the bed. “Baby?” She murmured, voice still thick with sleep as her eyebrows furrowed in confusion at the cold sheets beside her. A deep chuckle from behind her caused Y/N to turn around once more and force her e/c eyes open.
“Mornin’ doll.” Bucky smirked down at the woman struggling to right herself in the tangled mess of sheets she was currently trapped in. “Where’s Stevie?” “What, am I not good enough for you?” He only got a half-assed glare in return, which admittedly wasn’t very threatening since it came from the plump naked woman still tangled in the expensive Egyptian cotton sheets.
“He had a meeting, remember?” Y/N grunted in reply, her lips falling into an adorable pout. “But that was supposed to be at noon.” She whined, drawing up the sheets to cover her body in some kind of defiance for her other boyfriend having abandoned her. Bucky cooed and sat on the bed beside her, laying his large metal hand on her wide hip. “It’s almost one doll. You’ve slept through the whole morning.”
“No I didn’t.” Bucky sighed, giving her hips a squeeze. “No matter how cute that little pout is-” His other hand came up and cupped her face, his thumb tracing the seam of her mouth. “The clock isn’t wrong. And now I have to go too.” “Nooooo.” Y/N flung herself at her boyfriend, burying herself in his strong chest as her fingers gripped his incredibly expensive plaid suit, rumpling the fabric.
“D-don’t leave me, you’re my life.” He felt her chest heave with sobs as she clung to the mob boss, her tears soaking into his black undershirt. He wrapped his muscular arms around her heavy frame to hold the young woman close. “Oh dragă, you’re pms-ing real bad huh?” Suddenly her weight against his chest was gone. Her previous tears were now replaced by a deep glare that sent a shiver of fear down the mobster’s spine.
“I am not pms-ing, James.” She snarled, shoving him away from her and attempting to scramble to the other side of the massive bed. But Bucky held firm, keeping a large ringed and wrapped around her plush bicep as she tried to yank it away. “I can’t do this anymore.” Y/N huffed, leaning her entire weight forward, trying to get the man to release her.
“Do what anymore doll?” With one swift pull of her arm, the smaller woman collided into his chest once more. His metal limb curled around her thick waist to cup her large stomach. Her face was turned away from him in a pitiful act of defiance that made his chest burn with affection. “You’re being mean.”
Bucky cooed, nuzzling his nose onto the top of her head, leaving a little peck there. “‘M sorry doll, I just think you’re so cute when you’re tired and I shouldn’t have assumed that you were going to get your period soon. I can’t imagine a life without you, I hope you know that.”
She remained quiet for a moment, and then. “You make it really hard to hate you. But not impossible.” And with that, she launched herself to the side and rolled away, dropping off the side of the bed and landing on the carpeted floor with a small grunt.
“Ce am făcut ca sa merit asta.” (What did I do to deserve this?) He groaned to himself, pinching the bridge of his nose. “You ok down there?” Bucky called out, receiving a winded ‘yes’ from his girlfriend. “I have to go now doll, I promise Steve will be back soon and you can bother him.”
Her head popped up. “Are you saying I bother you?” He rolled his eyes. “I love you, I’ll see you later.” And he walked out the door.
——————
There was a brief moment of doubt in her mind as she typed out the 67th text message in five minutes to her blond beau, but it quickly disappeared when she remembered how he abandoned her in bed this morning without a goodbye kiss. Smirking to herself, she hit send on the long winded message talking about how hot Eddie Munson is and then set her phone down on the marble countertop.
“I don’t think it’s a very good idea to be pissing off the most powerful men in the country.” Her bodyguard and old friend, Clint, spoke up from over his cup of black coffee. “‘M not pissing them off.” She sassed, crossing her arms over her heavy chest. “I’m just annoying them a bit for being mean to me.”
His eyebrow raised. “And how exactly did they annoy you, your highness?” Y/N’s face heated in embarrassment and looked away, picking at her bowl of fruit, not responding. Clint groaned. “Don’t tell me that they didn’t give you enough attention this morning, what a travesty!” “It is a travesty!” She insisted, pulling Steve’s hoodie tighter around her body and burying her nose in the soft fabric.
“Then why are you wearing Steve’s clothes if they upset you so much?” He pointed out, gesturing towards the overly large dark purple tracksuit she was wearing with ‘Rogers’ written across the back. “And don’t you dare say it’s laundry day, I know for a fact that Sunday is laundry day because I’m the one that does it.”
“My period is in a few days and I want attention.” She muttered shamefully, curling in on herself as best she could on the small barstool she was sitting on. Clint sighed, putting his mug down and slipping from his own stool. He placed a warm hand on her back, gently rubbing her shoulder blade. “You want me to go out and get you some chocolate, kid?”
“Yes please.” “Finish your breakfast while I’m gone, I don’t need your two little boyfriends busting my balls because you haven’t eaten.” Clapping her on the back, Clint scooped up the keys to his BMW, leaving her alone in the massive kitchen. Y/N happily wiggled in the seat, popping a strawberry in her mouth.
Then, she looked down. And right there, at the bottom of her phone screen: read 2:43 pm. Her eyes widened in terror as she heard the thundering footsteps that could only belong to one man. She received confirmation a few seconds later when the giant stepped into the massive doorway.
His blond hair was slicked back, dark brown beard perfectly styled, and expensive navy suit with not a wrinkle in sight. But those bright blue eyes were wild, highlighted by the slight pink blush of his cheeks. “Oh so now you’ve got nothing to say?” He rumbled, his chest expanding with a deep inhale that caused Y/N to clamp her plump thighs together.
“Answer me, sweetheart.” It took him only two strides to reach her from across the room. His arms caged her against the counter as he towered over her, making her feel incredibly small under his gaze. She remained silent though, too focused on the way the buttons of his shirt strained against the huge muscles of his pecs, giving her a small glimpse of his dark chest hair beneath.
Steve sighed as he watched her zone out, her e/c eyes going hazy with her little daydreams. “Y/N.” He said firmly, breaking her out of her thoughts but he quickly began to panic when a tear dripped down her full cheek. “I’m s-sorry, I just was ma-ad and missed y-you.” She sniffled and reached up to wrap her arms around his thick neck.
“Oh sweetheart it’s ok, I just don’t exactly enjoy you talking about other men you find attractive but I know it must’ve been tough being alone this morning considering how tired you were.” A big thumb wiped away the small trail of tears as his other hand settled on her hip, giving it a quick squeeze. Y/N melted at the softness of his tone. “S-so you’re not mad?”
The mob boss chuckled. “You make me so mad. So fucking mad. But I will never, never leave you. You’re mine and I’m yours. Forever. No matter what. And I know you’re hurting so how about we spend the afternoon together.” She nodded and smiled up at him, still sniffling, her sobs tapering off.
In a swift move, Steve bent over and pressed his broad shoulder into her large tummy and hoisted her over his shoulder. Y/N giggled against his back, her fingers hooked onto his black belt to keep herself steady. With his other hand, Steve picked up her abandoned bowl and turned to leave the kitchen. “C’mon, you’ll be less cranky after you’ve had a snack and an orgasm.”
warnings: implied death of men who scared you, badly written comfort
steve didn’t trust many people, he couldn’t. not with his line of work.
but you? god, you were steve’s whole entire universe. and he made sure you knew that
whether it be expensive gifts, longing touches or just time spent together
he never failed to show you just how much importance you held in his life
and when he gave you special privileges
you were one of the only people allowed to enter steve’s office to begin with, but the only one allowed to enter without knocking
and now, you were curled up on steve’s lap while he had a meeting with some other mafia bosses
no one dared questioned you or steve, and if they did... well
you held the lapels of his designer blazer tightly as your mind drifted in and out of a dreamland state
steve had a soothing hand rubbing up and down your back as he lulled you into a peaceful slumber
until the other man slammed his heavy fists onto steve’s desk, making you shriek and jolt in your now fuming boyfriend’s arms
steve immediately looked at you instinct taking over and his heart breaking in two when he saw your wide eyes and wobbling bottom lip. it wasn’t like you to get upset like this so those fuckers really scared you
steve did not like that
he pressed soft kisses to your cheeks as his silently gestured for his men to deal with the issue at hand
“’m sorry my sweet girl. so so sorry.” he pressed soft kisses to your knuckles before adjusting you on his lap so he could wrap his arms around you
“don’t know why ‘m so scared, sorry stevie.” you mumbled into his jacket
he furrowed his brows at that, because why the hell are you apologizing
“no sweetheart none of that. you got nothing to be sorry for. come on let’s go get you a bath with one of those sparkly things you like so much.”
you giggled through your sniffles, and he pressed a kiss to your nose getting up from his leather chair, stepping over the men’s bodies as he pressed wet kisses all over your face on your way out

Just when Steve thought things couldn’t, they got worse. At least on the business end of things. Lloyd seemed like he was closing in. The previous death of that employee from his salon was followed by a string of half a dozen, all working for him and Bucky in different capacities. It included their civilian services, as well as those involved in the undercover operations. This was bad, and was only going to get worse if there wasn’t a plan to step up and put an end to the series of turf wars they’d found themselves in.
On the bright side, which still wasn’t technically great under the circumstances, all these occurrences meant he got to visit the precinct more and see you.
Yours and Lang’s desks were stacking up with cases. They all seemed related, but you weren’t quite sure how yet. And for some reason, you kept seeing Steve coming in for quick interviews. It’s not like you really wanted to complain, though. You wanted to see him, and you were happy for it to happen since this increased work load was making you too exhausted to do more of it outside the station.
As you were doing data entry in your lab with the door cracked open, you saw a tuft of blond hair move into your field of vision above your computer screen. A smile instantly graced your face, but you kept your eyes on the results.
“Steve. Hi. Get into trouble? It’s like you’ve got permanent residence at Lang’s desk.”
Steve laughed and came in, closing the door behind him. “Eh, not quite, but if I’m being honest, as much as you know I like Scott, I wish I were here more often just for you instead of these unending cases. Speaking of which, you have a minute?”
You nodded, still typing on the keyboard while you listened to him. “Yeah, let me just get this in really quick, then I’m all yours.”
His fingertips tingled at that and a warmth rose from his chest to his throat. Oh how he wished that was true. He wished you were his, but more than that, he wished that he could be yours. All of him. But that wasn’t something he was ready to discuss yet. You knowing his whole self. Things were going too well right now for him to mess it up by dropping that bomb on you. It wasn’t the right timing.
As you slipped your gloves off and went to wash your hands, Steve locked the door behind him and took a step forward. You dried your hands and came over to meet him, looking up into his eyes. Oh how you wanted to swim in them; a pool of peace amongst the craziness outside. Despite how busy Steve always seemed, time with him made everything else go away.
“So what do you want to ask me?” You rocked forward on your toes, happy to focus on anything but work for a second. Right, that’s what it was, definitely not excitement to see him, even though your heart was racing and your legs felt restless.
“I wanted to know if you were busy this weekend. Maybe you and I could do something.” He looked between your eyes with a smile, but it was slowly falling in anticipation for your response.
You winced, sucking in a sharp breath. “Unfortunately, I am really busy this weekend. I’ve got some guests I’m hosting. But you’ve at least caught me right now. And I’ve got a bunch of free time next week. I can text you my schedule later.”
Steve nodded, leaning closer to you. “You’re right. I’m happy to at least have you for right now. Even if it’s just a few seconds.”
You couldn’t help the way your body was drawn in just like his. Or the way your hands traced up the front of his suit, which was honestly growing on you, the feeling of the expensive fabric surprisingly pleasant. Or how your fists gripped his lapels tightly and pulled him close, down to your level. Or the way your lips hovered closely to each other.
Steve whispered in the closing space. “Seeing you sometime next week for much longer would be great. You let me know as soon as you can.”
In your affirmation of his request, your lips brushed against his while his one hand snaked around your waist and the other came up to your cheek. Your fists grew tighter, needing him infinitely closer.
Normally, Steve would mind the potential wrinkles of his designer suit. He was wearing his favorite today, mostly because he knew he’d run into you. But if that damage was coming at your hands? Hell, that made it all better.
Your eyelids fluttered shut, which Steve took as his signal to do the same, his lips softly pressing against yours. The kiss was sweet and careful, tentative, yet venerative. It was short, and interrupted way too soon for your liking by a knock on the glass of the lab door, where you had luckily closed the blinds before.
The two of you pulled away with a breath of a laugh, looking down at your feet before looking up again with a smile at the other. Steve spoke first.
“I, um, I should probably go.”
You nodded, mouth still slightly agape as a remnant of the moment. “Yeah. I’ve got a lot of work to do. And you’ve got…”
“Meetings,” Steve finished for you. You forced a small smile.
“Yeah, always meetings.” It was true. Every time a moment was cut short, it was meetings, but this small talk was also so you could make it seem like you weren’t just kissing a civilian in your lab. Whoever was on the other side would at least hear voices, not lip smacking, although the kiss was nothing like that. Steve slowly backed the two of you towards the door to start heading out, but he still wanted to take advantage of you letting him hold you for as long as possible.
“But to double check, you’re really not free this Saturday?”
You shook your head. “No, I’m totally booked. But if I’m remembering correctly, I could probably swing something in the middle of next week. Like Tuesday? Maybe Wednesday? Is that too weird? I’ve got all evenings off, so any time that’s good for you is good for me.”
Steve smiled, or more like beamed at the thought of you offering up all your free time to him, but still spoke softly, breathily, a hand still on your back. “Yeah, that works. I’ll text you.”
“Okay.” You didn’t even realize the way you bit your lip when you nodded, the slightly harsher sensation holding nothing to that of his soft lips. You were granted another soft smile under sparkling eyes.
“Okay. Goodbye, Sweetheart.”
Steve gave you a kiss on your hairline, reaching behind him and unlocking the door as quietly as possible so whoever was on the other side didn’t know it was locked in the the first place. Goosebumps took over your body at the whole thing. The pet name, the forehead kiss, the actual kiss. Luckily, they were under your lab coat, so he couldn’t see how much he truly affected you. Steve dropped his other hand from you, the warmth from them replaced by the air conditioned lab environment too quickly for you liking, before turning and opening the door. He excused himself to walk past the two detectives on the other side, Lang wearing a smirk and Walker, a scowl. Once he passed though the two-person wall, he turned back to wave goodbye to you with a wink and a salute.
You did your best to hide your smile at that, biting at the inside of your cheek and focusing on the detectives in front of you. If there was one thing Walker could do, it was kill a mood.
“Detectives. How can I help you?” You opened the lab door all the way for them to come in. Lang stood in the middle of the room with a file folder while Walker leaned up against one of the tables, something you’d told him not to do several times. Well, it’s his problem if a solvent eats though his ugly collared shirt, not yours.
Lang handed you the folder, still barely smiling at what he knew he’d interrupted.
“Got another case, Decky. Sorry to keep piling them on like this, but we just can’t figure out who’s doing all this. Or at least we don’t have enough proof yet.”
You grabbed the folder, flipping through the pages, before you dropped it over on the desk by your lab computer, the one surface in the room that was lean-safe, but Walker didn’t seem to care about that. You let out a dramatic sigh, crossing your arms. “Okay, thanks. I guess I’ll get back to work, then. I’ll let you know when I have the time to get though that.”
You gestured towards the case with one of your shoulders, but Walker slammed a fist on a table. You didn’t even care about his quick anger and poor intimidation attempt. He probably shouldn’t touch that surface with his bare hands, either, but you guessed he’d find his own punishment for it sooner or later.
“Is something wrong with that, Detective Walker?”
He walked over to you, his looming presence replacing the same space where Steve previously was, but this time it was much less enjoyable, so you took a large step back, holding out your hand. “Chill for a second there, buddy. Give me words.”
Walker huffed before looking at Lang, not even you. “Do you seriously trust her with this string of cases when she was just in here privately talking with one of our suspects? This case is important and I’m not gonna let her screw it up because she can’t keep her legs closed.”
That sent you over the edge. This entire time, Walker had been trying to undermine your abilities. He’d been doubting you, and blaming you for every one of his responsibilities that went wrong. And now, not even directly addressing you for the unfounded accusations.
“Walker, I’m sure there’s good re-,” Scott began to speak up before you cut him off.
“What I do in my lab is none of your business if I still serve you the data you ask for. There has never been a single occurrence where I’ve fraternized with a true suspect of an open case, and this is not me starting now. Plus, that is absolutely inappropriate for you to insinuate. Some of us take our jobs seriously and hold the law with regard. I kindly suggest you fuck off unless you want to know what the floor tastes like.”
Walker stood still, continuing to face Lang through your entire monologue, which may have been smart for him, because if he looked into your eyes, he would’ve turned into dust from the burning glare. Scott looked at you with a smile, content with the way you were able to shut Walker up and shut him down. He simply nodded in a thankful gesture, before guiding Walker out of the lab and giving you a thumbs up.
Before you knew it, Saturday was here and you were preparing to host your guests. You’d set out a veggie tray and everyone was arriving one-by-one until a single person was left to wait for. She was coming late, probably after dinner, anyway, so the rest of you got to it for a few hours, laughing and snacking in your apartment.
Steve was busy like there was no tomorrow, because if he didn’t keep working, there might not be. He was constantly relaying commands and shifting things around. The weekends were a busy time for him in general, so he was lucky when he’d gotten the time to spend with you before, but now it was seeming impossible. Luckily, he was sure he’d make it work to line up with your free time next week. He had to.
Steve was racing through city streets to another meet-up when his phone rang. It was Bee. She hadn’t called him too often at all. In fact, all he’d really been getting from her recently were short, sporadic texts. This had to be important, then, so he picked up right away.
“Hey, Bee, what’s going on? Long time no talk.” He was expecting to have a good conversation with a good friend. Someone he got along with, but she seemed frantic.
“Hey Steve, no time for formalities, I need your help.” Steve instantly locked in at that statement. Was she in danger? Why would Bee call him and not Bucky?
“Okay, shoot.”
“I just got off the phone with Bucky, but do you know where Decks is? I’ve been calling her all evening and she hasn’t picked up.”
He continued weaving, but started to slow down due to his focus on the conversation.
“Last I knew, she was having a weekend in. She’s hosting a bunch of guests at her place. Some sort of party I think. Why? What’s going on?”
Steve sent a short message to Sam to either take over or reschedule the meeting. If something was wrong or Decks was in danger, he needed to rush to her. Personally.
“Um, I kind of need her to clear her schedule for next Saturday to come back and win a game of pool.”
Steve wanted to stop in his tracks at that but kept going just in case.
“What? A game of pool? Why just for that? That’s so random. And even so, you don’t think you could win? Or me? I think we both could play pretty well.”
Bee laughed on the other end of the line. Sure, there were a lot of details she was leaving out, but there also seemed to be a lot he didn’t know for how much time he’d been spending with Decks lately. “Oh Steven, you sweet, naive, summer child. No, and I’ll tell you more about it in a second. But are you getting close?”
“Yeah. I’m in the car now. Just a few blocks away from her place. What does this all have to do with? Why does Decks have to play? Is she really that good?”
“Just move quickly. I need to know if she can do it because otherwise I’m not sure if I’ll have enough time to find someone just as good. She’s actually the best. Bucky will fill you in on everything else, but the farm kind of hinges on it. And for your information, Decks is good at all games. I thought you knew that. She’s like, literally a pinochle world champion and a great card dealer and definitely would’ve beaten you at pool that night at the bar if she wasn’t trying to be nice. We used to always say she should’ve gotten a PhD in game theory.”
Steve was taken aback at the onslaught of information. “Wait a second, you bet the farm!? And Decks plays pinochle? That well!? Is that-“
He was sprinting up the steps to the apartment now, not wanting to take the time to wait for the elevator. He reached the door finally and knocked, faintly hearing ‘come in, Marge’ from the other side. Who on earth is Marge?
He cracked open the door to hear the loud sound of chattering, but not before he smiled at the vase of flowers sitting on the kitchen island. The ones he had sent the past week. His head turned toward the dining room table and all sound stopped as he was met with several pairs of eyes.
Steve gasped and dropped his phone from his ear in shock, seeing a familiar woman in a green visor at the table surrounded by old ladies, dealing cards. “Oh my gosh. Card games. Deck of cards. So that’s what it-“
He pulled the phone back up to his ear again. “Hold on, Bee. I’ll call you back later. I’ll take care of all of this...just. Let me tell her, okay? I’ll handle it because I don’t think I can get into the details without telling her everything. And I want it to come from me.”
He hung up the phone and put it in his jacket pocket before looking toward the table again with his grandest, albeit partially forced this time, smile.
You were focused on dealing cards to your game group, the old ladies surrounding you at the table like they did every so often when you had the time to meet up. A few rounds had come and gone, but your partner, Marge, still wasn’t here since she had a family event that she said she’d be coming from. That was fine, and now you’d be expecting her any minute.
You heard a knock on the door, which must’ve been her. Upon seeing the door open, though, you could tell it definitely wasn’t a little 70 year old lady with white hair in her signature yellow cardigan. It was a tall blond man about your age, decked out in expensive black material.
“Steve, what are you doing here?” Your eyes were wide in surprise. He was on the phone, but promptly hung it up after taking a survey of the room.
The old ladies piped up. “Yeah, Steve.” “Hello, Steve.” “Nice to meet you, Steve.”
Steve sheepishly waved at the women sitting around the table across from you. You turned to your sides to see them all making flirty eyes, especially the lady sitting to your left who still hadn’t stopped waving. “Janet, hop off. He’s here for me.” You looked back at Steve. “Wait, you are here for me, right?”
Steve looked around before looking at you again with an awkward chuckle. He was still partially out of breath from how quickly he got here, but it was finally settling. “Hi ladies, um, yeah, it’ll just take a second, though. Can we talk in another room?” He pointed over his shoulder.
You nodded and took off your hat, grabbing his hand and dragging him into your bedroom, softly closing the door. You stood with your back against it, palms pressed flat as if when you moved, the ladies on the prowl would come flooding in to steal your man. Steve turned around back towards the door to look at you. “I’m sorry for just showing up.”
You straightened from your slouched position on the wall, placing a hand on his chest. He seemed a little stressed. “No worries, I just wasn’t expecting to see you today. Is everything alright?”
Steve didn’t want to ruin your day, so he held it in for now. “Um, yeah. Was just in the neighborhood, so I figured I’d take a chance and visit. I realized you’ve never seen it, so would you wanna come over to my place this week? Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday? We’ll play some pool? Bee’s asking if we can come back to the farm this weekend. Figured you and I could practice so we can win with our eyes closed.”
You laughed and smiled, leaning closer to him. “Sounds good. I’ve got this entire coming weekend off, too, so it shouldn’t be a problem. Probably a mercy schedule with the hours I’ve been pulling lately.”
Steve couldn’t help but lean in, matching you, as he nodded. “I bet. I can’t wait to spend more time with you this week, though.”
His arm was bracing him above you on the door. He knew he should’ve held back, not pushed it farther until he could lay everything on the table for you to see, but how could he resist when you were looking at him like that. Eyes wide and wanting, happy almost, even though he dropped in unannounced, something he knew you historically weren’t a fan of.
He was close enough to share a breath, so you leaned on your toes and were met by him leaning down. As the two of you kissed, Steve knew he should stop it in the back of his mind, but it all just felt so good, so he kept going, tongues dancing. He needed more, kissing down your neck and nudging his thigh between yours as you began to grind against him, gasping for air and moaning softly at the pleasurable sensations surrounding you. You wanted to keep going, too, until you remembered the several people just in the other room, waiting for you. “Steve, I, uh… as much as I really, really like this, I have some guests to host. Also, I thought I had told you this was a no-work-clothes-zone, but since you’ve got to go anyway, I’ll let it slide. Pick this up Tuesday?”
He pulled away and nodded, a somber softness in his eyes, taking in the last time you might look at him like this before he had to tell all. He loved the way your were poking at his suit jacket, playfully scrunching your nose, but still locking eyes with him. He cleared his throat. “Yeah, no problem. Walk me out?”
“Of course.”
You grabbed his hand and walked him to the door as all the ladies in your dining room whistled, and oohed and ahhed at him. As he stood in the hallway, the door just cracked enough for you to fit through and hopefully deter the wondering eyes of your card group, Steve left you with a kiss on the cheek.

I really liked this chapter, it just flowed. You can see that Decks is really back and forth on what’s going on… This takes place at roughly the same time as chapter 9 of YCMBWH in the Outta Nowhere AU

To call you overworked would be an understatement. You were exhausted from the long week, your early Saturday shift hitting you like a train. The great thing was, you didn’t have to work tomorrow and were only on-call Monday, in case something especially heinous happened and they couldn’t handle it. Might as well be a golden weekend! But you couldn’t celebrate too soon, you still had half the day in front of you.
You had come into the lab even earlier than your schedule demanded today to get a few more results compiled for an important case that was set to go on trial soon. It seemed like almost everything was on the rise lately, causing you to have to take on more cases at once, and the same thing went for the DA’s office. That’s what brought you here, transporting important files a few blocks down, far outside your usual basement-to-crime scene-and-back domain.
Usually, detective Lang would take the evidence up to the DA’s office for whatever case was going on, but he wasn’t in today and this was top-priority. You knew how to do it, just never had to, so you were slightly tentative on where exactly you were going. But, either way, there was no way in hell you were going let Detective Walker even think about touching your files. You didn’t trust that rat of a man, which is how you found yourself walking up the steps to the DA’s office on your own.
It was a nice change of pace, at least. The air was slightly less stale above ground, although way more humid. The sun even peeked at you from beyond the dense cloud coverage. As you made your way through the DA’s office, you weren’t quite sure how they could all stand the amount of searing natural light that must pour through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Sure, your office could stand to have a little more non-fluorescent light, but this was too much. Plus, it probably cost a fortune, this new office having been built just a few years ago as one of the few actions of the office that you didn’t quite agree with.
One thing you did agree with, though, or at least hoped you did, was Andy Barber. He was seemingly a nice guy, but you had never met him. You voted for him for DA, so you were hoping he wasn’t that bad, but all you had to go off of was his case prosecution method and whatever the local paper had to say. According to them, at least you knew he’d be in his office over his lunch break, lining up with yours. DA Barber was notorious for working hard. It was something you and many citizens respected him for, although you were sure his wife and son thought differently.
You walked through the hallway towards his office, transporting the file that was clenched tightly in your hand, hoping you’d be received well. Distracted by checking the room numbers instead of peeking inside the offices, you removed a set of stiff knuckles from the Manila folder in preparation to rap on the door when the image on the other side sharpened into focus. You froze with your fist in the air as your jaw slightly dropped and your eyes shifted back and forth a the sight before you.
Two sets of blue eyes, attached to bodies dressed in suits, stared back at you through the glass, the one in the large desk chair holding mild confusion, yet intrigue, the other holding….maybe amusement and….was that…fondness? But definitively it was slight trepidation.
The man at the desk, DA Barber from the looks of it, gestured for you to come in. You did your best to will your body to move from your rigid position, swallowing thickly and lowering your arm to the door handle. Your feet felt nailed to the ground, weighed down by cement in the shuffling steps you took to get into the office. Your eyes kept wanting to shift to the man who sat opposite of the desk, the one you’ve seen around a lot lately, at work and in your mind, as his own gaze was glued to you.
Remembering where your were, you made a beeline for the DA, sticking out your hand. “DA Barber, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you, sir. I come bearing that evidence you asked for.” You introduced yourself as he shook your hand, nodding and smiling in acknowledgement.
He gestured for you to sit down in the other leather chair positioned in front of his desk before waving a hand toward the man who had been silent thus far, despite the way his clear blue eyes had practically been screaming at you since before you entered the room.
“Please, Andy is fine. I hear a lot about you, especially from this guy right here. You know Steve Rogers, right?”
You nodded, looking over at Steve, just to catch the way his gaze averted yours just for a second, before locking in again in the formal, respectful manner he always tried to hold.
“Yes, Steve and I have met. And you can call me Decks, if it’s all the same. I hope I’m not interrupting anything, I can come back later if you want to discuss the file once your lunch date is over.”
Andy laughed and nodded to Steve once again. “I see what you were saying.” He looked back to you, slight creases in the corners of his eyes from his smile as he raised his eyebrows at you. “You’re funny. But no need, Steve is involved somewhat with this case and can stay for the discussion.”
You simply gave a curt nod, all business, opening up the folder and turning the documents toward him before going through your results.
You had spent way longer in Andy’s office than you had anticipated, half talking through the case and half just getting along with the gentlemen in front of you. Honestly, it was nice to finally have a conversation with people who understood your line of work, not only the mechanics of it, but where that work led, even if you still weren’t exactly sure what Steve did or what this all had to do with him.
Before you knew it, it was time to head back to the lab so you could grab your stuff to go home. As you started running down the steps and out the front door to try and beat the rain that threatened to fall soon, you heard tapping steps behind you.
“Hey, Decks, wait up.” You stopped and looked over your shoulder to see Steve gliding down the staircase, long legs making the strides look effortless.
He caught up and you continued walking back to your lab as he joined you, easily matching your brisk pace. As you were about to open your mouth to ask him why he was walking with you, your stomach growled over the sounds of even cars passing on the street and interrupted your train of thought. You simply looked at him, the two of you sharing an owlish gaze before busting out into a small bout of laughter.
“So you’re speeding off to dinner, then, I assume?” You shrugged, swerving around a parking meter before looking back at him.
“I wish. I’ve gotta hit the lab to get my stuff and then head home, but I’m way too tired to make anything, so we’re looking at either takeout or leftovers…”
Steve contemplated for a second as the two of you reached the precinct, and opened the door for you. “So, that’s what, with Saturday night traffic and cleaning up your space, an an hour? Maybe two before you actually get food in you?”
You descended the steps towards the basement, pulling out your keys to unlock the lab space and letting Steve in in front of you. “Yeah, I guess so, and I can already feel the hangry coming on, but I mean, at least there’s no one around who’s going to have to deal with it. It’s just me.”
Steve stopped in the middle of the room and turned around to face you. “No, Decks. I do. I have to deal with it, especially now that we’re friends.”
You looked at him with a raised brow. “Steve, we hardly know each other.”
He shrugged. “Then get to know me. How about I propose you a solution? What if I told you I could cut that time in half? From right now to you having an actual meal. I’ll help you clean up the lab here and then you and I can go to one of my restaurants. I’ve got a couple that aren’t far at all. On me, and I’ll guarantee food will be in your mouth within ten minutes of sitting down.”
You grabbed a pair of gloves, tossing the box to Steve for him to put on his own. “While I appreciate the offer, and I will put you to work in here, I can’t ask that of you, Steve. Plus, look at me, I’m a mess right now. And I’m sure all your restaurants are fancy. Could I even wear this to one of them?” You gestured up and down to your body, clad in jeans, one of the few perks that came with working Saturdays instead of a weekday, a casual shirt, windbreaker overtop and hair slightly ragged from a mix of the wind and a long day.
“I think you look fine, but, Decks, please, let me do this for you. You deserve to eat a good meal after how hard you’ve been working. And if it makes you feel better, I’ll change out of this suit so we match. Sound good?”
You sighed, starting to clear the clutter all around and signaling for Steve to do the same. He wasn’t going to move, though. Not until you gave him an answer. His eyes were boring into your soul despite how soft they looked, the hopeful smile on his face adding a sparkle you couldn’t resist. You looked at him and cocked your head to the side in exasperation, the back of one gloved hand perching on a popped hip, the other pointing towards Steve’s nose. “Ugh, fine. But none of that fancy bullshit. I want actual food, like you said. I don’t have the brain power for high-brow culinary transformation right now. Understood?”
Steve beamed at you, elated with your confirmatory response and ever amused, happy to comply by your demands. “Understood. So how do you feel about pasta?”
Steve pulled your car up to the entrance of his restaurant and tossed the keys at one of the young valet attendants, the other opening your door. You stepped out and looked at the elegant, yet humble storefront, surprised that you had never been here before. Sure, you worked close and you loved pasta, but you never even dared to try getting a reservation and were often too tired to even think of going anywhere but home for dinner, especially here.
Out of the corner of your eye, you witnessed Steve’s Range Rover pull up to where your car was moments ago, an arm reaching out and handing him a duffel bag. Steve slung it over his shoulder and nodded at you, opening the door for you to go inside.
“Mr. Rogers and Ms. Decks. Right this way, please.” The hostess immediately greeted the two of you, leading you back to a booth in the corner of the room, able to see the entire space. On your way there, though, you could see the nice clothes everyone was in. Yours were nothing akin to theirs, but no one spared even you a glance, which was oddly comforting, but a little unsettling.
Steve whispered down to you that he was going to change and you nodded, picking up and perusing the leather-bound menu in front of you. You hadn’t even finished reading, let alone made a decision, before Steve was already sauntering back to the table, now wearing a pair of jeans, white t-shirt, and navy blue bomber jacket. Oh man, did that make his eyes pop. His outfit was quite similar to yours, but just fit him perfectly in every way.
He gave you a shy smile as he slid into the booth, nodding towards the menu. “Find anything good yet?”
Your eyes went wide as you blew out a breath. “Steve, it all looks good. I can’t even decide what I want.”
“Well, what’s your favorite?” You snorted at that.
“My favorite? I’m not quite sure…. I mean, I cook spaghetti for myself the most, but that’s because it’s easy, not necessarily because it’s my favorite. What do you recommend?”
Steve clicked his tongue before responding to you. “I think I know just the thing.” He hardly raised two fingers off the table before a waiter was at his side, listening to Steve’s instructions on a ‘tour of the menu.’
“And any wine pairings this evening?” Steve looked to you in deference of the question, before you simply shook your head.
“No, thank you. Just water for tonight should be alright.” The waiter curtly nodded and walked away.
Steve was right, you timed it on your watch. He guaranteed ten minutes for food to be in your mouth, it hardly took eight. Steve watched tentatively as the plates were set before the two of you on the table, letting you portion out what you wanted first. The second the first bite hit your lips, you swore it was heavenly. Your store boxed spaghetti and jarred sauce held nothing to this rigatoni alla vodka, or the simple scents you had gotten off anything else so far.
As soon as you swallowed, you looked across the table at a very knowing glance. “Holy fuck, Steve. This is delicious.”
He nodded, finally serving himself and sipping his water before digging in. “The greatest, right?”
You hummed, taking in the amazing food, paired with the atmosphere. The rain beat against the window, adding to the coziness of the restaurant and the comfort and satisfaction provided by the food in front of you. Damn, this was good pasta. If Steve was going to insist on being around you so often, you were going to make sure he brought this along with him every time. Now that you tried it, you were never going back.
The two of you opted for silence as you continued to eat, at least for the first few bites. When you thought about it, Steve probably hadn’t had anything for as long as you, although he was taking it much better.
As the meal went on, though, the two of you fell into an easy conversation. It almost infuriated you how well the two of you got along. It was like talking to an old friend, except one that never got too explicit about their job description. Steve knew all about yours, and you knew all about his life growing up with Bucky plus a few interests, but that’s pretty much where it stopped. It wouldn’t have been a concern if he worked an everyday 9-5 job, but he didn’t. Something just didn’t quite add up, but that honestly wasn’t your concern. If he wanted to own a bunch of businesses, at least they made quality goods like this linguini. You were still astounded by how much he was able to control the room, though.
“So, like…what’s the deal?” You interjected just as he was about to take another bite.
“I’m sorry?” Steve was caught off guard, even though he could see the flashes of gears turning in your mind sporadically throughout this whole dinner ordeal.
“Sorry, I actually didn’t mean to make that as harsh as it came out, but like…you can’t tell me there hasn’t been a pattern of behavior with you all day today. I just wanted to point it out.”
Steve set down his silverware to put his full focus on you. Everything he had told you up until this point had been honest, and he wondered if he was about to be persecuted. The conversation had been fine, and the two of you were having a good time, but he couldn’t blame you for being a little bugged by his vague answers and workarounds.
“I just feel like everywhere you go, you command people around. If it were anyone else, I feel like they’d be all cocky about it, making false promises, but so many people are out here lending you their attention like you run things. Sometimes even in my workplace.”
“Decks, I, uh…. I don’t know how I’m supposed to take that.” His eyes slightly narrowed at you, unsure of where this was going next.
“I guess, it’s, uh…. It’s a compliment? But really more of an observation. And I’m saying I feel like I’m the only one who sees it. Feeling like a regular old Lizzie Curry.”
Steve furrowed his eyebrows. “Um, am I supposed to know that name? Is it someone you went to school with? Is it one of your coworkers?”
You let out a chuckle. “God, no. You’ve never seen that movie? It’s an old western. You know what, come over and we’ll watch it, plus you can listen to the song it inspired, too. Steven, you uncultured dog”
He laughed and rubbed his neck. “Okay, okay, I get it. But you don’t mean like… right now, do you?”
You pushed your plate of food away from you, more than satisfied with the best meal you’ve had in months. “I mean, I guess? If you wanted to. I’m not working tomorrow. I’m not even on call, so sure, I could technically stay up. It’d be worth it to see someone else’s reaction to old film.”
Steve sheepishly smiled before sinking a little into the seat, signaling the waiter to come back and package the leftovers, sure to send you home with extra bread, too. “I would love to, but I actually have an important business meeting.” He checked his watch. “That I’m about six minutes away from being late for already. Tomorrow?”
You nodded, pulling your jacket on and accepting a bag from the waiter. “Yeah, tomorrow works.”
Steve slid out of the booth, sending a message on his phone before sliding it into his back pocket to put as much attention towards you as he could. “Okay, perfect, I’ll come by at seven.”
You vigorously shook your head. “No, way too late. Make it five.”
He looked at you incredulously. “Five!? Okay, fine. Let me make some phone calls. I’ll see what I can do. I can probably rearrange some things.” He sighed and pulled out his phone again, holding it up to his ear and sending you a wink and a wave before getting into the Black SUV that sped to the curb, meeting him as soon as he touched the sidewalk.
You spent the day Sunday cleaning your entire apartment. Sure, it was your normal cleaning day when it could be, but something made you feel like it needed to be extra spotless. You were in a zen, music blasting, dancing around with your mop, which was luckily the last thing you had to do.
You at least didn’t have to worry about preparing snacks or anything for Steve’s visit, texting him the command to get them on his way over, since you were already doing him the ‘gracious service of hosting,’ as you had said. He got a kick out of that one and obliged you, even texting Bee to get your preferences and personally picking them up instead of sending out a lackey.
He was surprised by how short Bee’s texts to him were, though, considering they usually had chipper conversations. Maybe he would call her later, or at least tell Bucky to since they had both been in a good mood the last time they’d spoken.
Steve pulled into your parking garage and went to the trunk of his car to grab his duffel so he could change into comfy clothes once he got up to your place. As the lift gate opened, though, Steve was terrified for the first thing he saw to be a shoe, attached to a leg clothed in Ralph Lauren pants. Steve took inventory of what was going on in his trunk as Bucky, the man attached to said shoe and pants turned over and groaned. Luckily, it didn’t appear that he was injured, but his eyes were quite puffy and his hair was in a mess, and not how it was back at the farm.
Bucky was wearing one of his junk suits: one that he didn’t care what happened to it. One that was marked as comfy, that he could throw it away in a second.
This was less than an everyday suit. Usually, Bucky wouldn’t be caught in anything less than Armani, even known for wearing Brioni almost every day. He must’ve really been going through it, especially since his hair has never been seen professionally without at least half an ounce of gel in it.
This was bad, and it was the last thing Steve needed right now, as the time was crunching and he didn’t want to delay your snacks or this date….wait. Was this a date? Was last night a date? Whatever, he didn’t have the time to think it over, though, instead looking down at the mob boss sprawled in the trunk and trying to gather information as quickly as possible.
“Bucky, what the actual hell is going on right now. Why are you in my trunk? Were you crying?” Tears were something Steve had only seen from his best friend a handful of times over their lives side-by-side, so for them to be so suddenly present was a concern.
Bucky sniffled before putting his best attempt of an angry face on, although it looked more like a pout. “I miss her, Steve. It’s only been a week, but I just can’t stand to be away. She’s stuck in my head and we were never even anything official. I’ve been trying to drown myself in work, but all I’m really drowning in is…sadness.”
He swung his legs to finally sit up under the tailgate. Steve knew Bucky had thrown himself into work, the man had been back for six days and had hardly been seen outside his office while Steve was sent out for all the in-person necessities. Steve slapped his hands on the shoulders of his best friend before meeting his gaze, then eventually pulling him in for a hug. “Okay, I get it. But she’s not gone. She’s only a few hours away and you can call her whenever.”
Bucky shook his head and sniffled. “No, I can’t call her. It’ll just make it worse. I just need a friend right now. Can I hang out with you?”
Steve sighed and placed his hands on his hips, questioning the plausibility of the situation. He had been getting along with you so well this weekend that the last thing he wanted to do was ruin it. And it would be indecent of him to cancel when he was already here, bearing snacks.
You were perched on the couch in your nice, comfy clothes scrolling through the TV to find the movie you had told Steve about. It had been awhile since you had seen it, but from what you could remember, it was hilariously ridiculous and you’d be happy if you could just get one person to share in the spectacle with you.
Of course, you didn’t mind that it was Steve, either. You rather enjoyed his company. It wasn’t overbearing or obnoxious, at least when it was just the two off you, and when he wasn’t trying to flex his knowledge. This weekend so far with him had just been… easy, though. And most of all, he listened. It was so hard to find someone who was like that, especially in your line of work. You were one of the best forensic scientists in the area, but many wouldn’t give you the time of day, mostly the shitty cops you worked with besides Lang. With Steve, outside of what had happened the first time he came into your lab, you felt as though your expertise was respected.
You were pulled out of your thoughts by a firm knock on the door, followed by murmuring on the other side. You opened the door to see Steve holding a bunch of grocery bags, along with his duffel. Behind him was another man in a suit, kicking his feet.
“Bucket? What are you doing here?”
Steve sighed for what felt like the hundredth time and walked through the door you were now holding open, towards your kitchen to set down the snacks. “He’s not doing super well right now. I hope you don’t mind that I brought him.”
Steve looked at you with anxious anticipation as he walked towards the bathroom door as Bucky spoke up.
“Yeah, Decks. I’m really sorry to just show up unannounced, but going back to work after a month in the middle of nowhere was a hard transition.” That among other things were racing through his mind, but honestly, you got it. Hell, even coming back after a single weekend was hard, so you couldn’t blame the guy. He looked about as bad as Bee sounded in your phone call with her the other day. You just nodded.
“You won’t even know I’m here.” He looked at you with pleading eyes, rivaling the most helpless puppy you could possibly dream up.
“Okay. That’s fine, just get changed and you get to arrange the snacks. Does Steve have a change of clothes for you? I’m instating this apartment as a business attire-free zone.”
You looked over to where Steve was still leaning against the door frame where he shook his head. “I mean, I’ve got extra pants for him, but do you have another shirt or sweatshirt I can borrow?”
Movie time found you and Steve on opposite ends of your small couch with Bucky in the middle, the three of you holding bowls stacked high with all of your favorites, and seemingly Bucky’s too.
Bucky wore Steve’s clothes while Steve wore one of your old, oversized college hoodies from the collection. He had picked it out when you took him back to your room to try to find something that would fit one of the buffest men you knew. During this time, Steve told you all about what was going on with Bucky, and you understood. Being away from a loved one is never easy, you missed Bee everyday, too.
To your surprise, and honestly a little annoyingly, the sweatshirt Steve grabbed fit him better than it fit you. You missed the smug grin he wore as he slipped it on, happy to be hugged by your scent.
You hardly got to enjoy the sight, though, as a brick wall of a man sat between the two of you, jaw constantly clenching with the way he had steeled his feelings and demeanor. Bucky would never let anyone but Steve see him cry, but you had no idea how much it meant that he had even let you have a glimpse at him feeling sad.
Watching a movie that was almost purely taking place on a farm probably wasn’t the best decision. That wasn’t technically your fault, though. You had already chosen it and Bucky’s surprise visit wasn’t going to make you change your plans more than you already had by him just being there.
About half way through, he paused it, getting up to make the three of you drinks from whatever was in your cabinets, giving you and Steve the opportunity to talk about what had happened so far.
“So how old is she supposed to be?” Steve pointed at the screen.
“My best assumption is late twenties, early thirties if they were trying so desperately to marry her off at this point and still expecting kids. But she looks a little older than that, right? She was like, fifty when this was filmed.” You popped another gummy bear in your mouth.
“Ah, makes sense. Yeah, I’ve been so thrown off this whole time. Old-time expectations and behaviors are…interesting? I guess I’m not surprised, but it’s also quite alarming to see it portrayed so casually on the screen.” You nodded in agreement.
“Oh definitely. But you have to agree it makes it a little funny. I don’t think I could make it through the whole thing if it wasn’t laughable.”
Steve gave you a tight-lipped smile before Bucky covered your view, handing the two of you drinks. Steve was grateful for the break in eye contact. He wasn’t sure how he could tell you that misogynistic behaviors like that were so prevalent in his and Bucky’s line of work, and they jarred him in real life just as much as on the screen. Neither of them wanted a life like that, though, even if they had been a little misguided by the models in their youth.
The three of you settled in again, you and Steve throwing your feet on Bucky’s lap after he had almost sat on top of them.
You finished your drink and the movie, falling asleep there on the couch soon after. You woke up hours later with a blanket over you, borrowed sweatshirt folded at your feet and house as pristine as could be, two men nowhere to be seen and your door locked.

1000 Follower Celebration
“Fuck! This pussy is so fucking tight!” Y/N cried out as a painful smack landed on her already sore ass. The sting sent a shock of pleasure up her spine. She slumped forward onto her desk, physically unable to hold herself up anymore as the man behind her ripped her apart with every thrust and put her back together every time he pulled out.
Attempting to ground herself, Y/N’s fingers curled into the wood, perfectly manicured nails slicing the expensive vanish. She tried to scream, to speak but her voice had been ripped from her just as easily as her panties had. “You can take it, you were made for it.” He crooned as he readjusted his grip on her wide hips, to angle them up slightly, allowing the head of his fat cock to bash against her cervix with each downstroke.
Y/N moaned through clenched teeth, still unwilling to give him the satisfaction of knowing how much he was affecting her. “Shut the fuck up and make me cum, Rogers.” She snapped, yet her voice lacked any real conviction. But Steve didn’t appreciate her words.
“You stupid fucking slut, you take what I give you and you thank me for it.” His grip became painful, holding her so tightly, Y/N thought he might shatter her pelvis. His tone was balanced and laced with an anger that drove her higher.
Their alliance had been one purely out of necessity. Both of them are heads of notorious organizations with cops and robbers alike in their pockets. They tolerated each other, knowing a war between them would be mutually destructive and only coming together when another, larger force threatened their power.
Y/N thought Steve a bastard of the highest order and Steve believed Y/N a frigid bitch. They had to have at least 10 feet of space between them or else they would get into a physical fight. The partnership, however, was going well, they were slowly but steadily gaining back lost territory and it seemed like both families would have more power than ever once the war was over.
But all that was on the verge of crumbling down when Steve burst into her office, his long dark blonde hair a mess, his breathing ragged as he asked. “Did you fuck my right hand man?” He already knew the answer, Bucky had confessed to him a mere five minutes before he kicked down her door, going into far too much detail about the mob boss and her abilities.
Y/N just shrugged with a barely contained smirk. “What’s it to you Rogers?” And he snapped.
Items from her desk had been haphazardly knocked to the floor, and her clothes ripped to shreds as he plunged inside her, defiling her in a way she could’ve never imagined. She was forced to submit, to become nothing more than this powerful man’s toy and yet, she did not hate it. “Can he fuck you like this?” He murmured into her hair, the smell of cigarettes and her own juices filling her nose as he bent over her plump body.
“Can he make you tremble like this? Cockdrunk and pliable, willing to do whatever I want just so you can cum.” His thrusts had slowed down to a simple roll of his thin hips, keeping him buried deep within her in a way that drove her mad. She could feel the zipper of his expensive suit pants pressing painfully into the bruised skin of her behind, the dual feeling of the pain and fullness making her pleasure even more delicious.
One hand moved from her hip to the back of her neck, cradling the flesh almost tenderly. He guided her head so that she could look at him over her shoulder, force her eyes to meet his blue ones which were wild with lust and fury, and some deeper emotion she could not yet comprehend. “You’re mine princess.”
And something inside of her snapped. The fight left her body as her orgasm washed over her, her mind going blank with ecstasy. Steve grinned wickedly as she trembled below him, tightening around his cock, refusing to let him leave the warmth of her cunt. “That’s it, cum for me, princess.”
His smile fell as she tried to pull herself away from him, the pleasure quickly becoming a burn of overstimulation. “I told you to stay put!” He snarled. Y/N whimpered and struggled against him.
“’s too much!” She whined but instead of sympathy, she was met with another smack against her rear.
“Shut the fuck up! First you complain it’s not enough, now it’s too much? You really are an ungrateful brat.” And just like that, he pulled away from her once more, his thrusts becoming brutal, much like the monster she had come to know, not the man that held her gently and called her princess in the throes of passion.
He was seeking his own high, disregarding her pleas of slowing down. His cock twitched violently within her as he battered her womb. “We’ll be done when I say we’re done.”
——————
The room stank of sex, even with the huge windows thrown open to let some air in. Steve, having finally spilled his seed, not once, but twice over her back and thighs, was done. Given that he had ripped her own shirt in half, the blond gave Y/N his, quietly appreciating the way it shaped her curvy body, stretching over her considerable bust and wide hips.
They had yet to speak a word to each other, each of them too lost in their own thoughts as they sat side by side on the couch in the corner of the room. Steve pulled a carton of cigarettes from his pants pocket, silently offering his partner one and shrugging when she refused. Blue smoke curled around his head.
When he crushed the butt of his second cigarette in her coffee mug which miraculously hadn’t been shattered, Y/N finally spoke. “You can leave now.” Steve raised a dark eyebrow at her.
“Is that what you want, princess?” He made no move to get off the couch and instead crossed his right ankle over his left, stretching out his long legs. Y/N scoffed.
“You got what you wanted didn’t you? Proving you’re a better fuck than Bucky.” She didn’t dare attempt to stand and move away from him, knowing that her knees would give out the second she put any weight on them, so instead she refused to meet his eyes, focusing on the view of the ocean her high-rise office permitted her.
Steve’s brow furrowed and he was tempted to fish out another cigarette. “Is that what you thought I came in here for?” Y/N gave him a look that screamed ‘really Rogers?’ in the most condescending way possible. He chuckled, throwing a muscular arm around her shoulders to bring her body against his broad chest.
“I wasn’t aware you thought so low of me, princess.” He resisted the urge to lay a kiss on her temple.
She was quiet for a moment before she spoke so softly, Steve had to strain his ears to hear her. “Then why else did you come here, Steve?” His first name, she called him by his first name for the first time since he has known her.
Hooking a finger under her soft chin, he guided her eyes to his own, much like he had done earlier. Except this time, she could see nothing but admiration and adoration in that striking blue. “I came here for you, princess. I’m not going to lie, thinking about you fucking my best friend fucking sucked and it pissed me off. But I was upset mainly because I couldn’t get my head out of my ass to tell you sooner.”
“Tell me what?” She breathed, unconsciously inching closer to him.
“I would burn worlds for you.”
He watched as her expression softened before her walls came back up and her signature scowl returned. “Oh fuck you Rogers. You can’t just say stuff like that.” She huffed, turning away from him, obviously pouting.
“And why not?” He teased, yanking her back to him.
“How the fuck am I supposed to compete with ‘I would burn worlds for you’?” She dropped her voice down in an obvious if not terrible imitation of him. Steve laughed heartily, planting a loving kiss to the top of her head.
“I can think of a few ways.” He replied cheekily, cupping his growling bulge. Y/N glared at him playfully and slipped off the couch to kneel before him. Her face was coloured with determination as she pulled down the silver zipper and freed his cock from his boxers.
“I’m gonna suck the soul outta you.” And she did just that.
