Due to the previous post that I made, I was heavily motivated to write out yet another Drabble that may get turned into a fic or not who knows! I am just happy to write out my ideas and share them with others honestly.
So this time we well get into the MCU, or rather my idea of the MCU cause I have my own issues with it.
Imagine it, Reader is a member of the Avengers. I haven’t thought about what her powers would be, if she would have any, just that she is a member of the team and that she gets along with everyone generally. Perhaps in regards to powers she has a minor, but very effective power that is very versatile (think telekinesis, intangibility etc.).
Reader is an Omega, though other’s initially view her as a Beta at first due to how weak her scent carries itself and what it smelled like, orange peel with the scent of a library and what other’s expect the moon to smell like. Initially she had been misdesignated as a Beta in her teens before getting re-evaluated in her early adulthood as an Omega. The doctor explained that the misdiagnosis was caused by both the initial doctor’s lack of competence (his licence was taken away some years ago) and by the fact that due to trauma and stress, Reader’s scent was by far weaker as a means of survival. Other parts of her nature, like her heat cycles and general anatomy may also be cause by trauma as well, but it is too hard to tell even for the most skilled of doctors.
And Reader does what she always does; live life and try to just find joy in something.
She joins the Avengers just as the team starts up and gets to meet Steve.
Steve is a very typical Alpha in the sense of how he looks and smells, fresh pressed paper and a bit like spices. But he isn’t some jerk who pushes people around. He listens to everyone, no matter their designation. So it’s no wonder that nearly everyone wishes to at least go on a date with him.
Though she also sees that this man was clearly in mourning, which was more than understandable. She gave him space to mourn the life he wished to live in, where he wanted to rest after fighting the good fight.
Reader does help Steve adjust to the world he was now in. She was patient with him in regards to explaining things to him (cursing out Nick Fury’s name for overlooking important historical events over the last century) and taking him out on small trips to café’s, going to art supply stores, museums, the works.
Through these trips, the two of them grow closer and closer. They may not agree on some things and how they handle certain situations, but they can easily debate and talk about various topics with each other.
And Reader felt safe with him, comfortable and like she could be herself more with him. He seemed to actually like to be with her, to listen to her talk about her various ideas and interests that she has. A part of her tells her that this will just be temporary, that it won’t last. That it never lasts. But Reader pushes those thoughts aside. Telling herself that this time it will be different.
Just as Reader was working on confessing her feelings towards Steve, one mission happened that changed everything.
Steve comes back from it, frantic as he tells everyone to be on high alert, that they needed to find someone important to him.
Soon, everyone was on high alert, working for hour to find this man who was thought to be dead.
Reader also worked tirelessly, though could feel that the stress was making her feel out of sorts. She doesn’t know why, stress was something she was usually used to dealing with without issue.
But that was something to worry about later.
And thankfully, Bucky was soon found and brought back to the tower where the others helped to get the man both medical and legal support as quickly as possible.
During this time, some things came to light that surprised most people.
Bucky and Steve, both Alpha’s, had actually been together romantically even before the war. This shocked many, since back then relationships between two Alpha’s was still something that was looked down upon. Nowadays however, two Alpha’s being together isn’t seem as anything major. Some old fashioned people may comment about how it would be good if such couples were to add an Omega, though those comments don’t come up too often.
It’s because of this reveal that the general population and especially people who are in Alpha/Alpha relationships gave them their support and in part helped Bucky get pardoned.
Also him being a literal POW also helped his case a lot.
Soon, normalcy fell over the tower.
Steve was now mostly by Bucky’s side as he worked on getting some of his nicer memories back, helped him find his footing with the help of others and generally had eyes only for Bucky.
And reader felt like a shit person.
Cause after all, she should not be feeling like some poor dame whose lover left her.
Steve was never interested in her. Those moments of lingering touches meant nothing. Him looking at her for longer periods of time? Just lost in thought.
And the fact that Bucky was such a nice person wasn’t helping her.
If he was rude, then that selfish part of her soul would feel validated in her feelings.
But he was kind, he seemed to love that she didn’t treat him like some ticking time bomb like how the others tended to do when talking to him. He seemed almost thankful when she would ask him simple things like how he was, did he like the weather, was he more of a Twizzler or Toffee guy himself etc.. He even joked and they could both laugh easily.
And in those moments, even for a brief moment of time, she did not feel like she was drowning in her own stupid sorrows.
Hell, in the dark of the night, she could admit that she also was developing feelings for him as well.
That she loved his charm, his wit, hell, his scent of sandalwood and a fresh bakery in the morning really did her in.
Sure, poly relationships were normal in this day in age especially, but that didn’t mean that everyone wanted to be in one.
It didn’t help that online people posted about their own ‘controversial takes on dynamics’, which wasn’t unusual since that happened frequently enough.
But seeing posts of people talking about how good it is for an Alpha/Alpha couple to exist without some Omega getting in the middle of it to ruin it was a breath of fresh air. Their relationship proved that one doesn’t need an Omega.
Add this with her own deep rooted feelings of feeling like she was an awful Omega both for the trauma she faced and due to not wanting pups, certainly made her mental health far worse.
But this, this she was used to.
Years of working and talking and laughing whilst feeling like her insides were covered in lava and scooped out with a sharp ice cream scooper made her good at this.
Good at acting like all was well, that nothing bad was happening.
Reader easily ignores how much her soul seemed to hurt, how badly she wanted to wail and scream out in pain.
But she also reminded herself that such thoughts were ridiculous, that she was being a spoiled brat for no reason and to just enjoy being friends with two Alpha’s whose scent just so happen to soothe her so much to the point where she felt like a puddle.
Besides, now that everything has settled, they looked happy.
Nobody needs to know her pain.
Nobody needs to know her disgusting thoughts at night that sometimes produced a large amount of slick that would make her change out her nesting materials.
Nobody needed to know that late at night she would go into the lounge room and bury her face into the pillow that either Bucky or Steve had used and mewl for a few minutes before dragging herself off of it, changing the pillow cover and throwing the used cover into the wash.
Nobody needed to smell the disgusting mingling of scents between her own and the established couple.
She refuses to ruin it all for them both.
For the others to see her as some disgusting creature who is too greedy, who can’t take a hint.
No doubt they would kick her out and tell everyone with access to the internet how awful of a person she is.
And no doubt the general public would use her as an example of how ‘bad Omega’s never learn their place’.
The only place where she would share her turmoils was in her journals.
She knew that her teammates were many things, but snooping through someone’s personal journal wasn’t one of them.
Besides, she was acting so normal that no one would think to look through there for no reason.
So… why did she feel her usual heat cycle coming in so strongly.
And why were Steve and Bucky talking to her and checking in on her more than usual?
And… was her body changing?
