Many people want the mobile operators to give them better coverage and want them to install mast. Others object to masts that they see as obscuring views or damaging views of prominent buildings. Other are unhappy that a mast is placed right out of their home.

The issue is that to get better coverage we need more masts, but i would say that the mobile operators should be more careful where they place the masts. There is a temporary mast in Kidderminster that is just over the back fence of a number houses and 100feet high. The mast is needed as the older mast has been removed as the building it ws on is undergoing major building work. But surely, with a bit of thought, the mast could be better sighted, even if this is a temportanry mast.

[2025-09-22 image ©Landmark Masts] Many people online are complaining about mobile phone coverage: from a lack of 5G to limited 4G coverage. The only way to improve coverage is to build more masts. Recently there has been a number of planning applications rejected that are stopping these new masts as they are "too high for their position", "they obscure the view", "they are too near schools" or any other reason. Now the mobile operators do need to make sure that their positioning of masts is reasonable.

However the main issue is that we seem to want mobile connectivity but not the masts - that is impossible. Local planning needs to keep this in mind when considering mast location.

(2024-07-14 image ©munro magic) This is meall a bhuiridh and Munro in Scotland at a hight of 1108m and now the site of the highest mobile mast in the UK. The hill is just about the top of the Glencoe Ski Area and the mast situated at the top of the highest lift.

The new mast is operated by O2 and will give coverage over a signifiant area or hills and remote locations as well as a number of isolated cottages and farms.

Why this hill? Because the ski development climbs nearly to the top of the hill, and there is an electricity supply high up the hillside making it easier to site a mast here rather than other hills with no developments. The previous record was the masts at the top of the GlenShee development. Those that have climbed Cairnwell will see it is a 'mess' of all sorts of communications towers including a mmobile mast. But this is only 933m.

Where next Ben Nevis? Not likely as there is no electricity near to the summit. But there is electricity near to the top of Cairngorm, and there is already a powered weather station there, as well as other communication masts.. So could a mast be sited at the top of Cairgorm at 1245m. Practically yes - but the objections would be significant.

When I was approached by the band to make this video I was hooked on the hefty bass and the stomping beat. I wanted to make a video that captured the straight up dance aesthetic of the music but also slowly developed with subtle changes through out. There was something about the track that made me want to play with the contrast of light reflecting and refracting through glass in a dark and moody room.
