Please unfollow me right now if you think that Sora is nothing but a sunshine character.
Please unfollow me right now if you refuse to see that three kids being thrown in a war that they never asked for, having to clean up a mess that got too far out of any control, is mcfrigging wrong and is basically the summary of destiny trio, wayfinder trio and sea salt ice cream trio. please unfollow me if you lower anyone's hardships in KH (the fact that Riku got possessed, the fact that Kairi was kidnapped multiple times and had her world destroyed, the fact that Sora was almost swallowed by darkness twice and had to shoulder the entire universe like an Atlas, the justified yet unfair existential crisis Xion and Roxas went through, the pain Axel/Lea felt, the painful tragic ending of Ventus, Aqua and Terra). Please unfollow me if you think that Sora lets all his negative feelings out even though in KH2, hollow bastion, when saïx humiliated him and showed him there was nothing he could do to properly save hearts or save Kairi, he punched the floor and muffled tears as goofy and Donald had to calm him down. Please unfollow me if you didn't see his contained cry in the 2.8 cutscene when yen sid was scolding him and telling him he's not worthy of a master yet. Please unfollow me if you think he is all the time positive even though he called himself a 'worthless hero' in KH Re:CoM's manga ending and asked what good he was without the Keyblade before he was rescued by maleficent in KH2. please unfollow me if you see him as a happy robot go lucky character instead of a human that breaks, has fears, complexes and rough times that only gets heavier by the passing time because he is still fighting a war even though all he asked for was to be with his best friends. please unfollow me if that's the case.
He's a happy boy, a believer that sees the good in everyone and everything, yes, he keeps on being optimistic even after everything he's been through, yes. But lowering, no, DELETING, the entire message of KH of overcoming things even though all there seems to be is pain, is straight out being lazy of thinking or never actually playing the games with observation. Just like Riku, he also gets to be insecure about the darkness. Just like Roxas, it's okay for him to question his own worth. Just like Kairi, he has the right of wanting to be stronger to fight alongside the people he cherishes and to protect them. It's okay for him to go a bit dark, to go a bit "weak", "fragile" or "vulnerable". This DOES not delete his character or brutally changes his personality whatsoever, it makes him more real. His bravery, kind-heartedness and dreaming heart isn't measured by those features and it never was. It's measured by him being true to the light he believes in and his will to help everyone even if he has to do miracles for that. May Donald never heal you if you delete that part of his growth and general character.
So, truly, unfollow me right now if you wanna keep with your simplistic happy endings without much depth in KH. I wanna see him as a human and more than a hero that saves people with a smile, saying nothing is wrong as if he isn't affected by anything. Let him be a boy, let his light flicker, let him grow. Enjoy the happy moments AND the darker ones. Your Disney feelings won't die for experiencing things with hints of more depth, I assure you that much. : )
