I bought a paperback of The Complete Peter Pan a month or so ago (because, while way more convenient and budget friendly, I have a hard time reading online. Which yes, ironic since I can do that just fine with articles and fanfics and the like, but back on the topic of the book) and just two chapters in I already have thoughts relating to things referenced in the Fox's PPaTP show as well as the Disney movie.
In Fox's PPaTP, Nico ISN'T just cartoon randomness! He is mentioned in the first chapter when different Neverlands of the Darling children are being compared,
"John had no friends, Michael had friends at night, Wendy had a pet wolf forsaken by its parents."
I have no idea why this wolf being in the book and then the adaptation makes me so happy, but it does. Even if he never shows up again after this sentence, I am so pleased. ^u^
I also understand why he wasn't kept as a pet in the show, but that would've honestly been so cool. Real kiddo dA memory unlocked
In the Disney adaptation, Mr. and Mrs. Darling are pretty different in their interactions with the children. Mr. Darling is shown much angrier, and more dismissive. There was also no talk about Wendy being too grown up for the nursery in the book.
Nana being a Newfoundland dog remained the same as in the book, and her appearance's inspired by Luah, J. M. Barries dog. And her being put outside for the night was in both book and the movie, but there were different events leading up to it.
The game the boys play is also different, but then again, a battle is more interesting and chaotic, not to mention it allowed the explanation as to why Hook's hook is on left - Wendy said so, and she's the authority on all Peter Pan related.
The real reason (as far as I can find) is because the animators felt that Hook missing his right hand would limit his actions.
Imagine that. Having a prosthetic, limiting actions one can do. What a thought. (then again, right hand was for a long time viewed as the dominant and proper hand to do most things with, so that probably influenced their thought process. I still prefer Fox's accuracy though, makes him even more impressive🥰)
In the book it's actually their mother that catches Peter's shadow and places it inside a drawer. Disney had Wendy do that and tell her mother about it.
Also Peter gnashing his teeth at their mother is something I did not expect to read, yet here I am.
There will likely be more details I find in the show once I actually get to Neverland, since that's where those stories start. But even just these two chapters have me so intrigued to see how these two adaptations handled or omitted details. I might write my thoughts along as I read the chapters, or just when I notice similarities.

AND NOW I have to geek out a little bit about the book itself;
It's a 2023 reprint of a collection published back in 2015 by Alma Classics, containing Peter and Wendy (1911), Peter in Kensington Gardens (which clarifies it was first published as chapter 13 - 18 of The Little White Bird (1902)) and the stage play script Peter Pan or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow up
So, while the title of the book is somewhat misleading, for 11 euros I'm glad I got it. Especially because of the stage play, if I'm honest.
There's also a glossary and notes explaining certain sentences or sayings that make no sense this far into the future (to a kid or adult imo, especially if english is also not your first language) and - fitting a childrens book - Extra Material for Young Readers.
Pretty sure I'd devour this book if it was in any library I was at as a kid, there's so much to engage with.
Not to mention that the glossary and notes make reading a million times easier, since I don't need to look up words constantly.
When I was around 11 or 12, I wanted to read The Princess and the Goblin(1872) after watching the animated movie adaptation(1991). There was no physical book I could borrow, and I didn't have a phone with internet access (thanks dad, I only got it when I was 16, because I needed internet access on hand for school).
So I became pretty well versed in the whole "If the physical dictionary doesn't have it, one of the 5 online ones should give me the answer."
Ah, good times. I'm glad channeling my dedication for still doing that is now optional though - at least for this book.
I enjoy being immersed in a story without distractions, and ever since I started leaving my phone inside when I go out and read it has been bliss.
This collection was also illustrated by the same artist that did Horrid Henry (Grozni Gašper in slovene), which I though would be distracting... but they are small illustrations and so won't take much attention from the story itself. If anything, I'll just associate certain things with Gašper for a moment, because that kid really did bring me such joy when I was younger. And the first picture of Peter makes me think of Mr. Proper Peter (Pridni Peter), if he ended up being somewhat closer to his brother.
Oh these illustrations will turn out to be a blast XD
Anyways, I'm glad to be reading, I'm glad to be watching, the screeching as the side effect of it is great X3

I very recently saw a post where someone said that trans men are a minority, and not talked about enough. Now this could just be a case of having different social groups, but in my friend and acquaintance circles I know more trans men.
Pretty much every trans person I meet is ftm.
It was only very recently I met a trans woman! In the years of actually seeking out & hanging out with other queer people, I've only ever heard about trans-men. Even in online spaces, probably bcs I have mutuals who are trans-men, but still.
So I am curious. Is this just a case of WIDELY different friend groups and queer communities elsewhere, or is ftm transness really not talked about nearly as much as I think it is?
If you feel comfortable you can add where you're from, but it isn't necessary.
[ I have not majored, graduated or in any way acquired the title of Knows-All-The-Right-Terms when it comes to queer, lgbtqa+, alphabet mafia, so-on-and-so-forth community. Even if I speak english well, I am not online 48/7, and can admit I lack understanding of certain terms, or references, or things like that. So in case you have something new to share with me, by all means, I love learning! Just be nice about it, being queer doesn't mean I know everything. ]
