It might also be possible that I am looking too deeply into this. Maybe the nature of Light and Darkness is no more than a balancing of the scales. Maybe those who bear the Blessing of Light are no more than people with strong wills that are capable of great things.

Either way, it is important that you take the time to let yourself experience the Light and Darkness in your own life. Change when it is time to change, stabilize when it is time to stabilize. Take life at your own pace and remember that there is a time and place for everything.

There can be no darkness without light, and no light without darkness. The two balance each other, but are also found within each other. But what does this mean for those of us with the Blessing of Light? Are those with the Blessing agents of stagnation and stability?

I would argue that we are not. In fact, I believe that we are, instead, blessed with either to Light or Darkness as the world needs. Sometimes, the world needs things to stay the same, and so we bring that to the places that need them. Other times, there is a drastic change that needs to be made, and so we are Blessed to be that change.

There are a few places in recent history where both sides of this can be seen. The first is the assault on Castrum Meridianum, where those Blessed by Light fought to keep Eorzea free from Imperial rule. Another can be seen by our efforts in Garlemald, where the Light's Blessed fought to stabilize the Empire by changing their quality of life.

Every summer I look forward to the cries of sorrow, panic, and triumph when adventurers try to climb the tower. Five summers ago I climbed the tower and earned for myself the title of Eorzean Ninja Warrior. I wish them luck, but hopefully there won't be anything broken like there was last year.

However, there is a type of stability in Darkness. Even though it is the driving force of change, it can't do anything else. Darkness cannot settle down, it cannot merely Be.

When things get dark there must be a change. Whether that be a small change like that of opinion, or a large change like was orchestrated in Ishgard. We of Eorzea associate the dark with bad things, like the Umbral Calamities, and for good reason. The Calamities have all been devastating, and to say otherwise would be to downplay their impact.

It is thankful Darkness is balanced by Light, otherwise who knows what might happen to the star at large. It is important, I think, to remember that not everything that falls into this considerably broad category of "Dark" is as massive in scale as a Calamity.

I've been thinking lately on the dichotomy of Light and Dark. More specifically my place in it as one with the Blessing of Light.

It was said on the First that Darkness is the polarity of change, of growth. We accept this because the Ancients created Zodiark to change things enough that the Final Days would end. The changes went further than they planned, so there needed to be a balance.

Hydaelyn was born to stop the changes. The peoples of the First associate Light with stability and stagnation. The light never changes, it merely is.
