UPDATE COMING SOON WOO
How Hatter thinks he’s thought-speaking with Turtle:
How Turtle thinks Hatter is thought-speaking with her:
How the writer thinks they should thought-speak with each other:
Alyssa on any given day:
Alyssa after meeting the Riddler:
Uploaded two—that’s right, two—new chapters, finishing off The Riddler’s deathtrap scene and adding an addition POV change chapter before we return to the main story.
I’m trying to take breaks to read a wider variety when I can so I can break out of this rut I’m in. Hope this helps some.
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
For the November Writing Project, I wrote a quick Scarecrow-centric number to help explain a but about the “acquaintance.”
Here is “An Occurrence at New Trigate Bridge”:

CHAPTER THIRTEEN IS NOW LIVE! Fit the Third begins with Alyssa encountering yet another Rogue aggrieved by the workings of the Hatter, but this time both Alyssa and the Hatter may have met their match.
I want to thank everyone who has liked and supported my work thus far (and thank you for your patience). A special thank you to GhostPile for leaving a supportive comment (Sorry I was away for so long; life got in the way).
Summary:
Alyssa Montaigne was never one to let her guard down, especially in a city like Gotham. But attending one party sets off a chain of events that forces her to work with a curious madman with an even curiouser dilemma of his own. Bound by contracts and circumstance, they must navigate friends, foes, and an entire criminal underworld to hunt the one responsible for hijacking Tetch's tech and endangering criminals and citizens alike. At least, until she can free herself long enough to set her own world right. A Mad Hatter Imposter mystery. Additional tags for content warnings will appear as new chapters are added.
Little bit of self-bragging and references for the latest chapter
Salvete! Finally got that latest chapter up and let me tell you: I am still in shock that I lost the majority of my writing when I lost my drive back in February. The burnout on top of that has been REAL.
So, that said, I'm very happy that I'm continuing with the story, and I can only hope that future chapters will be able to cash the checks I've been leading up to.
First checkpoint: Weird Plot Shit. I will confirm that there are a great deal of supernatural elements at play here. More than one. They are not going to be explained entirely, but one may guess at their purpose(s) and origins. It will be a doozy because this might mean I have to start publishing my other fanfic that I've got in my back pocket.
In addition to the supernatural, there's also a lot of cogs in the Gotham City world pachinko machine that are already grinding, but due to the POV restriction, our intrepid and unlucky characters will have to hear about it secondhand. Jervis is already in a great deal of danger. Let's explore how much worse it can get, shall we?
Second checkpoint: Space and Time Distortion conjoined with POV shifting. I never intended for there to be a lack of explanation, but it kind of serves the purpose of the story here to ping-pong between the two characters. Even the one time Jervis took control of the narrative: that's on purpose. Therefore, if you or other readers experience confusion as to whether a scene is taking place during the day or night or some kind of location that is not well-described, let me know because that can really unwind this already frayed narrative.
Third checkpoint: There are a LOT of references in here in addition to fun word play. I'm basically closet cosplaying James Thurber's 13 Clocks here, and I'm so here for it. "Typical topical" wasn't even planned. Monty Python, DeathNote, McAlister's Deli, the parallels between Gotham and Galveston (more incoming)... I'm having a lot of fun with it, and I hope you and others are as well.
Okay, that's all from me for now. Heading back into it, the third fit is incoming: Unfortunately, there is an important little thing the characters have to confront first: each other's minds.
