Pridelolly 2K16 PART 2!!
Hey Sherlollians,
There are still a few days left in Pride Month, and we thought we’d use them to kick off another round of Pridelolly! We’re giving people more time to complete fanworks this time, through the end of August!
Q: What is Pridelolly?
A: Pridelolly is a celebration of lgbtqia+ Sherlolly fic art, headcanons, and recs! We have an A03 Collection of fics where either Sherlock, or Molly, or both, are portrayed as lgbtqia+.
Lgbtqia+ Sherlollians have also been using this hashtag to talk about their personal stories: coming out narratives, thoughts on being a Lgbtqia+ Sherlolly shipper, why they identify with these two characters and headcanon them as Lgbtqia+ etc. This is AMAZING and we totally encourage this! We will be reblogging these wonderful stories and encourage you to support your fellow fans with likes and reblogs.
Q: Why Pridelolly?
A: Pridelolly was the brainchild of lgbtqia+ Sherlollians who suspected that we weren’t alone in in headcanoning Sherlock and/or Molly as lgbtqia+. The original purpose of Pridelolly was originally to promote the creation of fanworks showcasing lgbtqia+ Sherlock and/or Molly–but it seems also to have morphed into a way for lgbtqia+ fans to communicate with and support each other.
Especially now, when a lot of lgbtqia+ people are feeling shell-shocked by current events, and when many lgbtqia+ Sherlollians may feel isolated and erased by the current fandom discourse, we think it’s important to create a way lgbtqia+ Sherlollians to know that they’re not alone and that they’re valid.
Q: How can I participate?
A: That depends…
If you are a fic writer, you can write a fic meeting our below criteria and submit it to our A03 Collection.
If you are a fanartist or meta writer you can post to tumblr and tag your work #pridelolly (be sure it is in the first five tags), and we will reblog it! Alternatively, you can submit posts to this blog and we will publish them.
If you are an lgbtqia+ Sherlollian, you can share your story and tag it #pridelolly, or submit it to this blog, and we will reblog/publish.
If you are not a content creator (and even if you are), please like, reblog, rec, comment and kudo the work of your fellow fans.
Q: What are the criteria for the Pridelolly A03 Collection?
A: The Rules:
Your story should have Sherlolly as the primary pairing
Side ships are allowed
Pairing either Sherlock or Molly with someone else is also allowed but if you do this your fic should have a Sherlolly endgame
This means Sherlock and Molly should be together at the end of your fic
Poly fics are allowed.
Get your Jollock on if you want as long as Sherlock and Molly form part of your polyship.
Either Sherlock or Molly (or both!) need to be lgbtqia+ in your story
Your character does not have to explicitly label themselves, but their lgbtqia+ identity should be evident either by their words or actions in your fic
Cisswap (also called genderswap) fics (e.g. femlock/Molly) are welcome
Writing either Sherlock or Molly as bi/pan, ace or trans is also encouraged
Please utilize A03 archive warnings and tag for content in accordance with community standards
That’s it! There are no wordcount min/maxes. Your fic is not required to be canon compliant (any and all AUs are welcome) and there are no restrictions on content as long as the other rules are followed (use your discretion as both a writer and reader).
Q: I’m not lgbtqia+. Can I still participate?
A: Yes! The fic fest was started by lgbtqia+ Sherlollians, but anyone can contribute fanworks. Sherlock and/or Molly need to be lgbtqia+ in your fanwork, not you.
Q: But I’m worried I’ll mess up if I write about someone who is lgbtqia+ and I’m not.
A: Being concerned about people’s feelings is the first step to getting it right! A number of lgbtqia+ Sherlollians have offered to provide advice/beta services. Send an Ask and we’ll see if we can match you with someone.
Q: What if I can’t make the August 31, 2016 deadline?
A: That’s okay. The collection will remain open indefinitely.
Q: I have a completed fic that fits the Pridelolly criteria. Can I add it to the collection?
A: Yes! The object is to collect as much lgbtqia+ Sherlolly fic as possible. The wonderful @mizjoely is also creating a Pridelolly Sherlolly fic list, so if you have a fic that meets the Pridelolly criteria that is on FF.net, watpad, or another non-A03 platform, you can submit it to @miz-joelys-sherlollilists for inclusion on this list.
