With John, as Sherlock tells Lestrade, “not really in the picture any more”, Sherlock is left to contemplate the reality that even if he had wanted anything greater than friendship with him, it is no longer a possibility. Molly Hooper has been searching for someone who wants her just as she is– not as a DIY project or a means to get to someone else. Often, in chemistry, reactants are artificially manipulated –heated, stirred agitated–to force reactions. While rapid, they can consume excess energy and damage the environment. Slow Chemistry simply combines the right ingredients, and waits. It is a natural, unforced process which is ultimately less destructive, though powerful.
