What dragons would The Magnus Archives characters ride?
(This got really long sorry)
Thinking about this was what inspired this blog so get ready for a long post where I explain my reasoning for each. No pictures as that would take so much space and as tma is a podcast and there are no canon designs I don't have any pictures to use anyway. I'm also somewhat inconsistent on when I assign a dragon based on the characters' powers or just vibes, but I mainly went with powers at least for the avatars. If you have any thoughts on any of these PLEASE tell me! Some of them I'm really unsure of STARTING WITH:
Jonathan "The Archivist" Sims - I've landed on Flightmare for now, but I don't feel like it really fits. Mainly chose it as even though I know it doesn't actually use fear to paralyze you, that is what they thought first and that was the closest I could get to something like Jon's abilities. If I didn't go based on powers I might go Night Fury but that just feels too cool for him (sorry Jon ily). Suggestions welcome (and needed).
Elias Bouchard - I don't know. Same problem as Jon. The Eye is a very psychological power and no dragons really have abilities based on that or knowledge. Feel like he would need something very old and powerful.
Martin Blackwood - Light Fury. But like a better less shiny version than the movie (more like the concept art). It can turn invisible which fits with the Lonely "vanishing" thing.
Tim Stoker - Typhoomerang. Not my idea. Saw someone else say it and it just. FITS. Idk why but it works. Vibes. Think there's something in how it can cause a lot of destruction.
Sasha James - Dramillion. Just vibes. For some reason I headcanon her as having bet birds and the dramillion is very parrot like. As usual Sasha, having very little "screen" time and basically no info is the one that's both hardest and easiest (we didn't really know her and therefore can just project whatever we like)
Melanie King - Razorwhip. Sharp, knives. I do also like Speedstinger for her just based on vibes. Both work
Georgie Barker - Terrible Terror. Basically a cat. Stand in for The Admrial. Wanted to give her something based on the no fear thing but it was hard. Like the chillest dragon I can think of is the buffalord but that felt kinda mean? But I kinda like the idea that she has a small, non rideble dragon as she is a less active character (in the beginning, she doesn't want to be involved at all)
Basira Hussain - Triple Stryke or Thunderdrum. Both vibe based. Thunderdrum was the first thing that came to mind, don't know why, just vibes, but I do think triple stryke fits better. Though I still can't really explain why.
Daisy Tonner - Deadly Nadder. Tracker and sharp class, perfect hunter.
Gerry Keay - Night Fury. Thought process: what's the most goth dragon? hmm, deathgripper or grim gnasher could work but they feel a bit too agressive... you know what? Night fury. He deserves it.
Peter Lukas - Snow Wraith. Best I could find. Fits the vibe, even if it isn't as foggy and isolated as I'd like.
Annabelle Cane - The most spidery dragon that exists. After scouring the wiki I found the Silkspanner and the Deadly Spinner which I think are from a comic and the nine realms which I haven't seen and doesn't really fit my criteria, but I will make an exeption for Annabelle cause I love her
Oliver Banks - Smothering Smokebreaths. Smoke kinda look like tendrils. Mostly vibes. As far as I'm aware there are no dragon death prophets.
Jude Perry - Monstrous Nightmare. Fire. That's it.
Agnes Montague - Fireworm queen. Fire. But different (it’s a queen and Agnes is a fire messiah, it fits)
The Distortion - Michael gets a Changewing and Helen a Deathsong. Both fit the distortion, having hypnotic abilities, but in different ways and I wanted them to have different dragons.
Mike Crew - Escaped a Skrill and now has a Stormcutter (unsure about stormcutter, best I could find, suggestions welcome)
Jane Prentiss - She is a hive of Fireworms. Really proud of this one! (could also go slitherwing but I want her to stay a hive)
Breekan and Hope - Hideous Zippleback. No explanation needed.
Jared Hopworth/the boneturner - Boneknapper
Manuela Dominguez and The Dark cult - Night terrors. Maxwell Rayner has the white one.
Nikola Orsinov - puppet dragon
