Honestly, I’m just gonna post this because I’m pretty sick of seeing the “FICTION AFFECTS REALITY INDEFINITELY” mentality crawling around. We had this moral panic with horror movies and video games... with women being allowed to read literature in the 17th century. Honestly, this is just the same shit, the EXACT same shit we’ve seen again and again and again and none of these anti people are self aware to realize that in the slightest. Not one of them has been able to prove that Harry Potter erotica or Sheith or whatever the hell the Undertale fandom is doing will perpetuate sexual abuse against children or normalize abusive relationships. And I mean hell, at LEAST with other widespread panic storms it was church officials and politicians going after movie studios and renowned authors and video game companies. THIS TIME it’s just some obnoxious, naive teens taking “baby’s first social justice movement” and some really immature shitty 18-23 year old “adults” who think their misinformed college campus brand psychology and personal feelings are enough to dictate all social norms TO A VERY SMALL POPULATION OF THE WHOLE WORLD: PEOPLE WHO HAVE TIME TO WRITE AND READ FANFICTION OR DRAW ART. Man if you really think a couple hundred thousand views on some fanfic from AO3 is enough to bring about societal moral decay, you... Man, (and I hate saying this patronizing dumb cliche but it fits here) go outside?
Oh and if you’re trying to decipher the relevance of that video to this post: basically stop blaming people who create unconventional content for the actions of people who may or may not be inspired by or imitating such things because SHOCKER: A SURPRISING MAJORITY OF THE POPULATION CAN TELL FICTION APART FROM REALITY.
