I kind of miss when teenagers just hated and were resentful of older adults because of the teenage angst disposition and being too young to fully articulate their feelings about and comprehend the unjust world around them while being too old to live life in peace but I legit see people ages 14-19 going like "I can't interact with people older than 20 because I'm afraid they're going to hurt me" and it's really upsetting. I know this post is mostly joke-y but I have actually seen people taking the whole “mature adult=BAD” thing at face value and it’s really encouraging this this culture of paranoia and fear based on perceived potential for adults to be dangerous; that’s... not great. Like there are plenty of low-life good for nothing scumbags willing to test those fears and fuck those people but it really isn’t a good attitude for young people to have, not when they’ll have to face things like talking to teachers and councilors about their futures or job interviews, not when having social interactions with anyone outside their peer groups, not when some of the older and sadder young adults are on the cusp of being apart of this very demographic they’re fear mongering against. Listen, kids, it’s not about young and old and potential for “bad” it’s about boundaries. Stop being afraid of having functional and healthy relationships and normal interactions with adults who aren’t your mommy or daddy because “this person is older than me” and “this person is crossing my boundaries and making me uncomfortable in them exerting the power imbalance between us over me” are not the same thing. You DON’T want that baggage to come with you when YOU’RE the 26+ year old who still likes pokemon and likes to blog. You don’t have to willingly share your personal/fandom/social spaces with older adults (it’s better you don’t anyway) but please don’t perpetuate the fear that ALL adults EVERYWHERE are INHERENTLY predatory by virtue of... being older than you while also having a blog and liking pokemon and tiktoks. Sometimes I think about how I love and care for misunderstood weirdos and fandom people on the internet who get attacked or belittled or harassed and how much I despise corporate minded major social media sites and the terrible digital porn demographic. I’ve seen weird folks go on and on about creating OCs and fanart of their favorite cartoons to vent their sexual feelings and desires or to process trauma or to create art to be sold. After all that is said and done they talk about politics, gush about how much they love their friends, take pictures of their pets, and preach how they want the world to be a better place... I get frustrated when anti culture shouts to the heavens that THEY’RE the reason why the world is fucked up and why abusers, child molesters, and rapists run rampant on-or even offline and often don’t face meaningful consequences. 

It really isn’t fair that those kind of people (who are often women/nb, LGBTQA+, mentally ill, POC, trauma survivors, and apart of other marginalized groups) get to be the easy target of a movement that wants to make fandom spaces safer but fails to prioritize actions that COULD make meaningful change. This very website has consistently failed to do anything about the neo nazis, the stalkers, the CP peddlers, the doxxers, or even the goddamn pornbots just skipping around and making the world a terrible place. Antis look at someone shipping Shimadacest  or who gets it up to Twilight Sparkles making out with Sans Undertale like they’re one of those faceless creeps that post nothing but untagged porn on unmarked blogs and who see no difference between loli or pokephilia drawings and real living Japanese teenage pop idols or child actors at BEST. At worst, they’re Shadman. 

Those people in these communities they attack, they aren’t like the scumbags that actually damage fandom reputation and sabotage the safety of young fans... They CAN tell the difference between reality and fantasy and they separate their practicing with fiction from the thoughts and feelings of real living people. I keep having to report blogs for abusing the law, Tumblr’s guidelines, and moral human decency; not a single one of those belonged to people I’ve seen in callout posts trying to take out artists and authors for “supporting and endorsing” problematic behavior (i.e. making a story about incest involving people that aren’t real in any way). 

[TLDR] If you’re practicing or engaging with kink or unconventional subject matters within the confines of purely fictional context and/or with other legal and consenting adults you aren’t a sexual deviant; kinky people/problematique people will explore all kinds of taboos and oddities WITHIN resonable boundaries while sexual deviants willingly cross those boundaries and exploit whatever they can in the name of getting off. The only boundary a true deviant wouldn’t cross is one that ensures they will be caught and face consequences for their actions.

If you’re a minor who has thoughts about mature content or tries to explore aspects of yourself through fictional content or cope with things you’re just now understanding or struggling to understand; 

you’ll be okay and you aren't a gross or terrible person for having feelings that you might have or might not have repressed since you've had them but please don’t forget to find educational resources and support outside of fiction and fandom. 

If you’re a minor and you think it’s okay to go out of your way to interact with marked NSFW spaces and the adults that occupy them or that it’s fine to have inappropriate contact with adults online or off, 

it isn't. You need to realize that no amount of feeling lonely or ignored or curious or like you’re invincible and the on exception to the rule of that not being okay is just teen bullshit that everyone goes through and will grow out of. Stop acting like you’re grown just because you can bypass childblocks and realize you’re putting yourself in danger by expecting the internet to babysit you.

On Adult Antis...

People not into the fad of condemning all forms of fandom content that step a toe outside of the proverbial box of good acceptable things [like coffee shop aus, unabashed hatred for villains who are villainous, and only the most good and pure shippings void of any conflict or hardship (read: unrealistic and boring)] are familiar with and already dog enough on the 13-17 year old anti crowd of teenagers prodding internet spaces not meant for them to invest their time in what they feel is some honest to god moral crusade against what is blatantly wrong and dishonorable. They believe that making people not draw or write or even think about gross bad things is enough to make them go away because, well, kids? I get it, they just want to feel important and like their time in fandom is productive and making a difference. Some teenagers start fund-raisers and protests in the name of social justice, others make callouts against Sheiths to raise awareness of sexual abuse [basically, shipping and headcanon wars but if they were fought by zealous puritans holding witchhunts]. 

What I DON’T get is that there are adults the same age and with the same amount of fandom experience who are gun-ho about backing up this fad and keep on insisting that it’s every strange grown up drop what they’re doing and make certain that any hypothetical children wandering around in spaces they don’t belong MIGHT see a naughty picture or a dirty fic you made and have their fragile psyche shattered. Why are these people pushing 30 up in arms about “GROSS ADULTS MAKING STUFF ONLINE THAT KIDS MIGHT SEE,” why are they so fixated on guarding the purity of strange kids online they don’t even know. 

As far as adults having the “responsibility” to “protect innocent kids” that can go as far as rightfully calling out ACTUAL harmful behavior and suspicious people (i.e. ACTUAL predators that use fandom and fanart to interact with underage fans and lure them into inappropriate contact, freaks that talk about REAL living and breathing kids and teens like they’re fictional loli waifus, people that can’t interact in public spaces without being inappropriate be it conventions or sfw spaces online meant for everyone, etc.). This is as far as it NEEDS to go. When it comes to fandoms being a safe place, I’m concerned that people can feel content and safe, not that everyone is squeaky clean on a purely surface level...

The Florence Project and Refugee Rights Project. This organization provides legal assistance and social services to detained immigrants in Arizona.

The Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights. This organization works for the rights of children in immigration proceedings.

Kids In Need Of Defense (KIND). This organization works to ensure that no child appears in immigration court alone without representation.

Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project. They work to prevent the deportation of asylum-seeking families fleeing violence.

in 2017 dior copied the design of a traditional romanian coat from the county of bihor and sold it for 30,000 euro, giving no credit to the local artisans. in response, romanian fashion magazine beau monde helped the community create their own brand, bihor couture, which sells the original coat, handmade to order, for 500 euro a piece. they also sell other traditional clothing and jewelry for much more accessible prices (5-45 euro). they’ve been hugely successful so far, and currently have enough pre-orders to cover 4.5 years of work, with 100% of the profits returning to the community. 

it’s surprisingly common for big name fashion designers like dior, gaultier, tom ford and altuzarra to copy traditional romanian clothing and sell it for ridiculous prices, with minimal original input, while giving nothing back to the community where these designs originated. it’s completely unfair that a big name designer can just steal so much hard work and misuse it to make huge profits. 

please support bihor couture, if not by ordering one of their products, then by spreading the news around. it’s really awesome to see a small community fight back against cultural appropriation so successfully. i hope they carry on for a long time!

She fought hard and deeply for all human rights, for her own people.

She was was an important voice. She was an activist.

She was executed in cold blood after leaving an event called “Young black women moving the structures”.

Her voice is echoing through all of our voices now.
